PIP

Hi. New to the forum and PIP and am hoping some of the forum members can help me understand the claim process a little better, I applied for PIP in early December 2022. DWP told me that Capita had received my forms on December 9th. But i have not had a phone assessment scheduled yet. So i called Capita just to make sure everything was fine with my claim. They told me this morning that my claim "is in initial review" and that they "are requesting info from my medical contacts so they can do a Paper assessment". Is this a good/bad sign that my claim will be successful?

It did, it was a company called capita

Lodol · 25/07/2023 09:36

I have received a message to say the report has been received following assessment if I ring will they tell me what I scored?

I doubt it. It now has to be finalised by one of DWP's decision makers. They confirm scores, write the decision letter, and put that in the system. You'll be contacted again by text and told when it's on its way - that's the hardest wait as it took mine 17 days to arrive!

JimnJoyce · 25/07/2023 10:47

Well i've just called them again and the automated message has told me I will get paid on 21 August! And it will only be £272. No idea how that's worked out.

AutumnCrow · 25/07/2023 11:06

What rates were you awarded, @JimnJoyce? That sounds like a balancing payment, possibly, if you were being backdated from May.

JimnJoyce · 25/07/2023 11:14

@AutumnCrow no i've just realised it's
my first 4 weekly payment. No idea how long it takes to get back payment though.

Lodol · 25/07/2023 11:53

I’ve spoke to someone they said they are going to post me the report
how long did it take you from assessment to decision? The wait is painful!

Elisha12345 · 25/07/2023 17:28

Hi all sorry to gate crash the party I'm new here but just wanted abit of support from this long, tiring and draining fighting process 😩 I applied for pip and recently heard back and was only given 4 points on daily living 😩 the same as a few of you they have said I can do things that I most certainly can't. I've sent off my MR so waiting to hear back from that obviously I know the likely hood of anything changing is slim 🤦🏻‍♀️ so looks like tribunal will be it for me I'm currently waiting for my tribunal for esa as I got the work related activity but believe I should be in the higher group. Just very stressed at the moment mental health is taking its toll so just wanted somewhere to vent/get support. Hope your all well 😊

Lodol · 25/07/2023 18:38

This is what I am worried about, I have children and work so worried it will be held against me. Any rational why they scored you so low? Good luck I hope you get the best outcome

alwaysommymind · 25/07/2023 19:14

@Lodol I've not had an assessment yet but I work part time and have children and I'm worried that will go against me

theressomethingabout · 25/07/2023 19:15

Just a quick question, if you get awarded it is is there a website you can go on to check payment

From assessment to final decision letter arriving on the doormat was four and a half weeks, but that was a Renewal.

Normally it's included in your first payment, so dp check your bank account again. It usually shows as being marked 'DWP PIP' or similar.

AutumnCrow · 25/07/2023 19:36

do not dp!

JimnJoyce · 25/07/2023 20:44

@AutumnCrow it seems to be the case that back pay is usually in your bank account 3-5 days after being awarded

Hi, it' really is draining, as you say. So much depends on the skill of the assessor in understanding the rules around the descriptors.

Hi @Elisha12345 , I've just been through a MR and finally last week goy enhanced rate for both which was amazing as in my assessment report the assessor like yours lied about what I can do and I only score 6 points when they first made a decision.
I just wanted to give you my experience of an MR and maybe a little bit of hope 🤞.
I sent my MR in and they asked all the points i disagreed with and I sent in extra evidence and then they said it would be a 4 weeks wait to hear anything. I rang when it got to 4 weeks and they'd missed placed my MR but the next day I had a phone call from a lovely lady who was doing my reconsideration and she basically spoke to me about every point I disagreed with, why i disagreed with it and I had to explain again what I cant do. And then she went away to decide on points. It was almost like having another assessment but so much less stressful and it's like she actually listened to what I was saying about what I cant do.

I hope this helps a bit and you hear back soon but definitely call them if you don't hear after 4 weeks as they do lose things!! X

Elisha12345 · 26/07/2023 06:25

@Tiredmum1223 thank you for taking the time to reply I appreciate that 😊and happy to hear your MR went well it's good to know sometimes it can happen 🤞I will update when I've heard back from them although I'm not feeling hopeful I can see it being tribunal 😩 x

LakieLady · 26/07/2023 20:04

Nightimeer · 24/07/2023 14:12

@Lodol how long did you wait to hear for assessment. I applied on 23 June not heard anything yet

My clients are all in Sussex and the waiting times for assessments seem to be a minimum of 4 weeks and (generally) a maximum of 8 weeks.

I say generally, because it occasionally happens to take longer.

LakieLady · 26/07/2023 20:10

JimnJoyce · 25/07/2023 10:47

Well i've just called them again and the automated message has told me I will get paid on 21 August! And it will only be £272. No idea how that's worked out.

That's the amount you'll get every 4 weeks (standard daily living component is £68.10 pw, so £272.40). You'll get an arrears payment, too, as it will be backdated to the date that you rang and asked for the form.

The money may well arrive before the decision letter, but if it doesn't, the decision letter will give the start date and you'll be able to work out how much the arrears payment will be.

LakieLady · 26/07/2023 20:12

That's a great result @Tiredmum1223 , I'm really pleased for you.

Unusually helpful service from them after they mislaid the MR, so you really lucked in there!

JimnJoyce · 26/07/2023 21:58

@AutumnCrow yes I caved and called them today! They confirmed back pay will be in on Friday. Also told me my award is for 3 years.

IWannaShout · 27/07/2023 18:54

Am I okay to jump on this thread.

So I have made a claim for PIP, first time, but I work part time. Will they ask for anything from work like hours, adaption etc.

Lodol · 28/07/2023 09:53

They asked me what I do for work and what my job involves and if it involves speaking to people face to face etc.
I work from home so I just said I work at home and work make adaptations where needed but not sure if working is held against you. Il let you know when I find out 😊
