PIP

Hi. New to the forum and PIP and am hoping some of the forum members can help me understand the claim process a little better, I applied for PIP in early December 2022. DWP told me that Capita had received my forms on December 9th. But i have not had a phone assessment scheduled yet. So i called Capita just to make sure everything was fine with my claim. They told me this morning that my claim "is in initial review" and that they "are requesting info from my medical contacts so they can do a Paper assessment". Is this a good/bad sign that my claim will be successful?

@backtoworknextweek I didn't have help as I'm a very "together" individual outwardly and also highly intelligent (not a boast, just means I don't like other people's input and get very grumpy when people try to help. My issue nobody else's fault 🤦🏻‍♀️). The assessment was absolutely fine, I answered all the questions honestly but making sure to highlight the worst days, said when things were hard, talked about how things made me react and feel, all the things you're meant to do. But, they still managed to just pick out the positives, ignore anything that showed me struggling and said that I was able and presented well... Well yes, that's actually due to childhood trauma which I did explain right at the beginning.. but it's amazing how they use tiny things to justify saying you can do everything with no problem, no support and no aids. For example, because I take my children to school and walk my (Assistance Dog!) that I am fine traveling and socialising. Totally ignored how I said I do things that are familiar and for my kids, that unfamiliar journeys make me self harm and have panic attacks ..

PIP is about whether you cope on the majority of days , so even highlighting the worst days will not really help unless they affect you for the majority of the time.

FlyInMySalad · 24/06/2023 14:49

@Babyroobs yes absolutely, what I meant is I followed the advice to discuss worst days so you're showing that.

The "how many good days and how many bad in an average week" question is, I think, too simplistic. As that makes me think broader, as in how my disabilities affect me overall. Whereas they used it to say that I could travel to unfamiliar places (for example) because my good days were 4 out of 7. Whereas I was just referring to not wanting to self harm, suicidal thoughts and managing to get through a day..

@Sweetsweetlike1 thank you. Did you wait long for your assessment date after the text. I was hoping I didn't need an assessment as I sent lots of evidence off

I think it was about 4 weeks after that text I had my assessment. Whole process for me was....

  • Online application sent off March 14th
  • Assessment done on June 1st
  • Awarded June 22nd

(In between all of the above I received texts/letters, and also requested and received my report after the assessment)

backtobedforme · 25/06/2023 18:21

@Sweetsweetlike1 thank you for that, I only applied last week so might have a bit of a wait but it's just to read on this thread what to expect

Just joining this thread if I may. I've got the dreaded form for my DH. I've copied it for now, so that I can work on drafting some answers. I've got a couple of weeks, so it feels prudent to take my time.

Does anyone know why some people are sent online links, and others paper forms?

When I made the initial phonecall to PIP, they asked me whether I want a paper application or an online link sent to me, so I reckon you can just ask for what you prefer.

h0rsewithn0name · 25/06/2023 22:06

Ah, they didn't ask me, so I guess it's too late. There is just a bit more pressure handwriting on the form, so I'll have to take my time.

I believe can still call them at this point and ask them to email you the link. I'm sure they will be fine about it. I accidentally deleted the initial email and had to call and ask them to send it again.

I didn't receive an assessment date until around 8 or so weeks after, so you could have a bit of a wait, although I did see someone on another thread get it only after a few weeks

Have you received a text to say it has been passed on to independent services

Tiredmum1223 · 27/06/2023 11:30

Hello everyone, I rang DWP to ask for a MR last wednesday and then sent them supporting evidence on Thursday, how long did anyone wait for a MR if they had to do one? On the phone he said it would be about 4-8 weeks.

NotQuiteUsual · 28/06/2023 09:49

Hi everyone, I've just yesterday started the process of applying for PIP. It's so scary, I spent the whole day panicking. I got what I assume is an automated text at half five this morning and I've been up a height ever since. It's from independent assessment services who appear to be handling my claim. Hopefully this can all get sorted sooner than later(which is optimistic) because it's so intimidating.

TheShellBeach · 01/07/2023 15:26

@catskittens it was six months for me.

catskittens · 01/07/2023 15:54

another ??
if you put in a change of circumstances do you know how many pages it is?

It's just that I have put in for a change and waited 2 weeks for the form to arrive so phoned the DWP as it had not arrived and then it arrived a day later,so i filled that out and it was 24 pages and sent of

so today I have a form 34 pages that was sent the day i phoned and said i hadnt recieved but this is 34 pages and more detailed

my award runs out Nov 2024 im hoping this is not a general review it does say thanks for telling us about a change just that it is 10 pages more

as usual it came on a saturday so cant ring but getting a bit worried that i may have to fill another form when ive just done one,it was deffo the same day i phoned dwp to send me another form but its 34 page s worth

would look forward to your thoughts on this
thank you

Tiredmum1223 · 01/07/2023 21:11

@TheShellBeach thank you so much for the reply. I called them yesterday to see If they had received my evidence which they said they hadn't, so I've had to send another copy of it to them 🤦‍♀️. X

Lodol · 03/07/2023 10:55

Hi everyone
I submitted a claim more than a month ago; got the initial text to say they have received it but nothing since

It's very usual for them to take a lot longer than their website claims!

Hi, sorry you didn't get a reply on Saturday.

Did you manage to get through yet on the PIP Helpline to speak to someone?

The whole process is so ridiculously stressful and inept.

catskittens · 03/07/2023 19:25

hi,yes i did it seems that the 24 page for is the one they will use thank goodness and funnily txt me today to say they had recieved it so they think the longer form was a clerical error

but all good now
thank you

AutumnCrow · 03/07/2023 19:44

@catskittens, that's good. Best of luck with it.
