Scottish Child Disability Benefit

Hi everyone, newbie here πŸ‘‹

I came across what looks like an old thread on waiting times for the β€˜New’ Child Disability Benefit in Scotland which seems to have stopped in July. I just wondered if anyone had applied recently and what the waiting times were?

I know it say 6-8 weeks BUT I also know when a teenager says they will do there room later, that could be later that day or later that year so wondering if I should take the 6-8 weeks with a pinch of salt.

My son is Autistic and was urged to apply for it.

Thank you everyone

Doneinmamma xx

I applied in August and am still waiting to hear. We had a letter at the end of September asking for proof of address which I sent that week but nothing since.
i will say the process was really straight forward and I’ve spoken to them on the phone and they were very helpful.

Turnaroundandigone · 20/10/2022 10:49

Last I heard 11-12 weeks seemed to be the normal. The form looks far better than the dla form when it comes to hidden disabilities!

uhtredbebbanburg · 20/10/2022 10:52

I applied in April and still waiting to hear! I called May or June (I can’t remember) and they had lost the application but eventually found. But then my DD turned 16 so decision was delayed while they assessed whether she could manage her own money (she can’t). Just got a letter yesterday to say I would be appointed to manage her money but still not heard whether we are even awarded the benefit πŸ™„

princesspeppax · 20/10/2022 10:58

I applied beggining of June still waiting to hear, contacted them as was under the impression it was 8 weeks time scale but advisor on the phone said I would probably be looking at December time before its picked up

NatM15588 · 20/10/2022 16:30

I applied in april for my daughter and just got the first payment in september. Took 8 weeks to hear from them for a video call to check my identity and another 9 weeks until the decision letter arrived.

uhtredbebbanburg · 20/10/2022 17:09

@NatM15588 Was your payment backdated? They said they would backdate our payment to April if they ever decide what to award us...

NatM15588 · 20/10/2022 20:23

Yeah it was backdated 18 weeks and backdated on my uc aswell for the disabled child and carers element.

uhtredbebbanburg · 20/10/2022 20:37

Thanks!

emmxO · 24/10/2022 20:39

Hey!

I applied for my little boy, section 1 on 9th of August and section 2 early in September. I'm awaiting a decision but looks like it's going to be a long wait.

I tried webchat today to see if they could say any kind of time frame and just got no no no. Very anxious wait.

Hope this thread keeps up :)

uhtredbebbanburg · 26/10/2022 19:07

I’ve just come back here to say we got our award notification today, backdated to April when I first applied. Good luck all.

CM1985 · 18/11/2022 18:18

I applied in August for my little boy still not heard anything!

emmxO · 18/11/2022 20:35

@CM1985 I had a call last week to advise they are running behind and it'll be another 12 weeks from last week. I completed section 1 in August section 2 early September. So looking like Feb before I will hear.

princesspeppax · 18/11/2022 21:15

I applied in June got a call last week to say it has been picked up by a claim handler now so shouldn't be much longer

kinglass2016 · 19/11/2022 17:11

Does anyone know how current lead times when notifying of change of health needs? We recently switched from dla and I submitted evidence of new diagnosis etc. I am sure if will take same time as new applications or not. I was on hold for over an hour last week to ask and gave up in the end!

Moro93 · 23/11/2022 17:54

I applied in July for both my children and I still haven't heard anything. Both applications are in the queue for the case manager and now, instead of 6-8 weeks, the case manager has 12 weeks to make a decision, potentially up to 16 weeks if more information is needed.

I honestly didn't think it would take this long as it's looking like at least 6-8 months for a decision.

Doneinmamma · 13/12/2022 06:45

Just an update from me. I had a call maybe two weeks ago to confirm my wee boys details because they couldn’t find him on any systems even though we get CHB and they have already paid out on Sure Start Grants too. Even with additional info they couldn’t so was to send birth cert. I had to order another as lost mine so I have done that and when they said once they have received it and it will go to case manager I asked would it be 16 from then he said realistically yes so April. My original submission date was October so approximately 6 month wait. I submitted application and supporting evidence of autism report so not sure who else they need to contact to confirm diagnosis or confirm anything in application. Will keep you updated.

Just an update for those still waiting applied in June, and been awarded this week fully backdated.

Moro93 · 14/12/2022 12:17

I also have an update, I applied for one of my children on the 22nd July and the other on the 25th.

There has been a decision on one of them and the letter is being sent out, I will receive a backdated payment on the 19th. So I waited just under 5 months for that one.

The other application still doesn’t have a decision and is with a case manager.

If you also receive UC, how long did you wait for a decision and any backdated payments of the carers element and disabled child element?

Doneinmamma · 14/12/2022 13:23

Congratulations @Moro93 I can’t comment on UC hopefully someone else on this thread can.

They called me again today, missed the call, left message to call them back so that was another hour call all to tell me they got the birth certificate and claim now passed β€˜Eligibility stage’ and in queue to picked up with case officer. When it’s picked up if all evidence there decision made in 12 weeks if more info needed it will be 16 weeks so realistically we’re looking at April/May. Submission date October 2022.

I applied end of August, had a phone call a few days before Christmas asking for more details on how much time we were awake in the night but she said that was the only question she had at that time. Has anyone else had similar?

Doneinmamma · 30/12/2022 04:03

That’s good to know what kind of information they would be looking to follow up on @Bambi1609 you seem to be on the average track for a decision Jan/Feb if the 6/7 month wait is still in place. Keep us posted x

Bambi1609 · 30/12/2022 06:39

I popped on webchat yesterday to see if there was any update and they said it was at tw final stage which means my case manager has made her decision and it just needs signed off/approved there.
They did advise I keep an eye on my bank account next week which I'm feeling is quite a positive thing to have said because surely if they couldn't see anything to indicate there would be a payment sent they wouldn't have said that 🀷

Doneinmamma · 30/12/2022 12:31

That’s great news then happy new year πŸ₯³ I don’t know about you but web chat was taking like an hour to be answered before I finally gave up before Christmas?

I think it was about 20 minutes the other day, I just loaded it in my phone and kept a wee eye on it while sorting other bits so I wasn't just clock watching lol

Toffeeeyes · 03/01/2023 17:02
