Just as title says really. I have not put the heating on so far. Just wondering its not my mindset that's actually preventing me or making me feel i dont need it.

North of Scotland was bloody freezing last week but manageable this week. We are cosy blankets, socks, slippers onesies and thinker duvets. Last night I woke up because I was cold though so I might need to start putting it on.

SirChenjins · 06/10/2022 22:28

Yes we have in the morning and early evening for a short while - temperature in the mornings have been single figures and it’s only got up to around 13 during the day with heavy rain, so feeling v cold and damp. We’re v v lucky that we have a fixed tariff and have built up a credit balance, but we’re minimising our energy use and the heating is on far less than it would normally be at this time of year.

Comedycook · 08/10/2022 08:07

I'm amazed by how many people put the heating on when the weather is still quite mild. Ok, I understand if you live in the north of Scotland in a cottage that's hundreds of years old or you are vulnerable, very elderly or have a tiny baby.
.but if you are an able bodied, healthy adult in an average house in the south east, I cannot fathom why you would be putting your heating on now.

MinervaTerrathorn · 08/10/2022 08:35

@Comedycook My DGM in her late 80s is in an average house in the SW and doesn't have her heating on yet! Luckily her sitting room gets the sun and it's her bedroom that's cold which doesn't matter as she's in bed.

nannybeach · 08/10/2022 08:43

No, SE UK,17c yesterday, bit damp in the morning, put my walking boots on and jacket to take dogs to forest, sun came out didn't need the jacket. Still got bedroom window open at night,so have neighbours. People still in shorts.

StarcourtMall · 08/10/2022 09:12

Not yet (live in SE). We do have a log burner though and have been lighting that if it’s a bit cold. I just looked at our gas consumption and it’s about a third of last September, so I’m guessing I already had the heating on this time last year.

Passthecake30 · 08/10/2022 14:47

No, SE and it’s been about 18 in the day. It can get chilly sitting on the sofa late evening so I use a blanket.

twistyizzy · 10/10/2022 20:05

NE and still no, nowhere near cold enough yet. Still holding out for 1st November.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 10/10/2022 20:11

No. SE uk. Not cold enough yet.

WalkingOnSonshine · 10/10/2022 22:45

House is still at 21 degrees.

At this rate, we’ll be fine till November.

MK85 · 12/10/2022 02:30

I live in west Northern Ireland and i've had to put the heating on the past few nights and take a water bottle to bed. Especially tonight , it's quite stormy. We bare the brunt of the cold atlantic coming in . I was in england recently and the difference in the feel of temperature is really noticeable.

It’s pretty cold in my house in the South East some days. I guess everyone feels the cold differently too

LetHimHaveIt · 12/10/2022 06:50

Nope. That fire isn't going on until November. I managed to keep my gas bill down to £150 last quarter, and electricity about £250. Can't afford to have those do anything more than double. Still in credit to the tune of about £700 on each account, but that'll get eaten up pretty quickly.

Tumbleweed101 · 12/10/2022 07:52

Colder inside than outside most days at the moment. I have had my heating on for an hour in morning when we get up as house is cold then but not needed it yet otherwise.

PauliesWalnuts · 12/10/2022 12:03

I’ve had it on the past couple of weeks when working from home - I can’t type when my hands are cold and that’s basically my job. I’ve been leaving it off at weekends when I’m moving about - I don’t get cold then. I live in an old brick cottage with no cavity, and it faces the prevailing wind, so it gets cold very quickly. I have put those foil reflectors behind the rads on external walls and I’m noticing a difference.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2022 19:52

Yes most days 30m am for our 5yr. Too cold to get out of bed /dressed etc

No heating on yet. It has been between 17-19 inside my flat so no need. I have felt a bit chilly a couple of times but a putting a jumper on sorted it.

Came home this morning after walking dog/doing horses and my husband had stolen oil radiator from our DDs daughter to heat the bedroom. Absolutely no need and all it did was to steam up all the window 😡 Only dropped to 5 degrees overnight so nowhere near cold enough. When it gets to 3 degrees overnight outside I will put heating on but not before.

Era · 13/10/2022 10:08

I put ours on for an hour this morning for the first time. I got up at 5.15 and it was 14 degrees downstairs. It’s not nice to get up to that.

DH and I decided that since we have already paid for the oil tank to be filled we will use the heating as we need it but that we will cut back on electricity use.

our solar panels go in at the end of November so that will help (although obviously it isn’t a great time of year for solar generation)

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/10/2022 10:17

Those who haven’t used heating yet

are you on your own or have kids

we are putting on for our daughter 5. It’s too cold for her esp in am eating breakie

a 30m boost does wonders

maybe if no kids I may not have used yet. Not sure

1 child. She just puts a onesie and slippers on as soon as she gets up then straight to breakfast, change for school and out of the door.

freesoul12 · 13/10/2022 11:44

@ twistyizzy i have three children under the age of 11 and they wear heavy clothing and they have not complained about being cold. When they wake up and go straight to shower which i already sort out 2/3 minutes so that they have nice steam to walk to so its working to get them out of bed . After shower they dont feel cold at all. Plus in the morning there is only 40 minutes altogether between waking and getting out of the house for school.

In the evening, i finish dinner at 6:30 and off we go to my bedroom and watch tv or chat or study. Feels good and we are enjoying it
