How much do you spend on a coffee per day/ per week?

Only recently became a coffee drinker, mostly just at home to accompany DP. Went along on the coffee run at work and it's cost me £4.50 for a standard sized coffee. Good grief. I've been taking packed lunches as to not spend ~£3-3.50 each day buying lunch. Most people I work with do at least 1 if not 2 coffee runs each +/- buying lunch. Is this standard and I've just lived a sheltered life?!

"you do realise 'the latte factor' isn't actually about lattes?"

Ummm sorry to say that yes it IS about lattes 😂 Other things too of course, but it definitely includes lattes. Applying this principle we've achieved more than we ever dreamed of 👍

On take away coffees ? - £0
Occasionally (probably 3 or 4 times a year??) I might meet a friend for a coffee somewhere, when obviously I would buy one or two coffees, but everywhere I've always worked has had a kettle.

I mean if you question is literally how much I spend on coffee, then I do buy coffee for home, and I have paid into tea funds at various places over the years, but I guess from your OP you are only talking about takeaway coffees.

I'm glad you feel you've achieved more than you dreamed of.

I didn't say there were no lattes in it, I said it wasn't actually about lattes.

...but I'm not about to spend Sunday arguing about it. I'm going to make a coffee & enjoy it. Have a nice day ☕️

Around £10, I go out for breakfast most days and get one then and often grab one in the afternoon too. I have a lot of spare time, most of it revolves around getting coffee so sometimes more than twice a day

You have my ideal life Grin

Never.

Lincslady53 · 05/10/2022 12:35

I use a filter coffee machine at home, a couple of cups per day, so a bag of coffee, around £3 lasts 10 days or so. I rarely buy out except when on a motorway trip, when I spend £3.40 on a Starbucks at Waitrose Hartshead. However, I have just bought a nespresso/dolce gusto machine from Aldi, full price £80 but reduced to £50, which takes either pod. Pods, 10 for £1.69 so costs will be similar to my filter machine. Have only used it once so far, but was impressed.

£16 a month on a beans subscription for my bean to cup machine (that’s enough for DH & I to have a couple of double shot cups a day for a month). The coffee is ethically traded, fully traceable, single origin from small farms and co-ops, sustainably sourced and freshly roasted by a local roastery (small business not a chain), it’s absolutely amazing. Knocks spots off anything from the chains.

Out and about I probably spend around £20 a month on coffee in cafes and restaurants.

beonmywaythen · 05/10/2022 17:33

£2.50 a day when I have it

WalkingOnSonshine · 05/10/2022 17:35

2-3 a week which costs me max a tenner. I have loyalty cards too so regularly get a free one.

I have bought coffee bags for wfh though, I just need proper coffee to get me through days with colleagues.

anniegun · 05/10/2022 17:37

£3.50 a day x 5 days a week x 40 working weeks a year= £700. Thats enough to buy a house! (or so my Tory MP seems to think)

Ponderingwindow · 05/10/2022 17:42

I bought a super-automatic coffee machine for home. It’s an upfront cost, but not all of them are 4 figures and it makes fancy drinks so easy. I like the Gaggia brand for balance of
features and “affordability”. My first one lasted about 18 years and I’m on my second machine now. When I just had a regular coffee maker and a regular espresso machine I spent a ridiculous amount of money going out for coffee because I found I always had an excuse to get one out.

Parky04 · 05/10/2022 17:51

£0. I just have coffee at home.

LubaLuca · 05/10/2022 17:54

Very little at the moment, because of hybrid working and having decent coffee makers in the office. Maybe 1 in a café each weekend, plus a large jar of instant for at home every month, so what - £20-25 a month? I spend more in the pub tbh.

soundsystem · 05/10/2022 18:31

About £7 a week. But that's just on my days off. I work in coffee and if I added up the ones I don't have to pay for that would be another £45 😬

Backtoreality22 · 05/10/2022 18:43

I have one or two a month in Starbucks or Costa or Coffee One when I meet friends so, say £10 a month. I don’t even like it but I have it to join in with everyone else.

Testng123 · 05/10/2022 18:44

I'm buying less and less due to the cost! Felt like a chai latte today...the cheapest (smallest) one was €4.10. I just went without. Buy them occasionally if €3ish. Otherwise I make coffee at home, we've a bean to cup machine.

movingsky · 05/10/2022 18:47

£0, I've never done it. I have a bean to cup machine at home and have a couple before I go to work then have one more at work. I've got a small cafetière at work and buy a couple of bags of ground coffee a month.

xogossipgirlxo · 06/10/2022 14:32

I drink coffee at home, and we have coffee at work). I used to loooove going to Costa, Starbucks, but I'm trying to spend less on meals and coffees out, so maybe buy it once or twice a month now and celebrate it more.

feathermucker · 06/10/2022 14:34

Some of the instant sachets are lovely. Even the Costa or Starbucks ones aren't too expensive, especially in comparison to £4.50 🥴

bakehimawaytoys · 06/10/2022 14:38

I maybe buy one a week at most. I have a Nespresso machine at home which makes great coffee - the pods i like work out at 40p each and I have two a day. That's still nearly £25 a month on coffee!

User47328976 · 16/03/2023 18:25

I mainly have it at home but I pop into Waitrose a couple of times a week and get a free one.

User47328976 · 16/03/2023 18:28

Sorry, I seem to have reactivated an old thread, it was at the bottom of another coffee thread

Ivebeenframed · 23/03/2023 10:28

I have a Tassimo machine and search for coffee pod deals on the net. (Currently buying from Denmark). I bought two insulated cups from a well known coffee shop and make my own to take with me to work. I've saved bundles doing it this way and enjoy decent coffee at the same time.

windmill26 · 23/03/2023 10:46

I drink coffee at home as I prefer the taste. When I meet with friends (once a month) I have tea . The last time we went to Gail's ,our bill was £6.20 for 2 teas with no table service. I don't mind spending a bit more for a good drink and good customer service but Gail's didn't offer either so next time we will go somewhere else.I think paying over £4 for coffee is crazy...bring your own.

Whichnumbers · 25/03/2023 10:55

For me coffee out is my luxury, I don't drink alcohol at home, I'm not into high fashion or getting my nails done, I don't smoke and I use there car infrequently. Often my tips from my part time job cover this. Also have a coffee machine at home that does bean to cup and froths the milk. Some people spend £15 a week on petrol and I don't have to, so spend it on coffee instead
