How much do you spend on a coffee per day/ per week?

Only recently became a coffee drinker, mostly just at home to accompany DP. Went along on the coffee run at work and it's cost me £4.50 for a standard sized coffee. Good grief. I've been taking packed lunches as to not spend ~£3-3.50 each day buying lunch. Most people I work with do at least 1 if not 2 coffee runs each +/- buying lunch. Is this standard and I've just lived a sheltered life?!

I only pay for coffee as a sit-down-in-a-pleasant/warm-place thing. Obviously I buy ground coffee to make at home.

Just cannot understand the take away coffee buying craze. Don't get me started on the unpleasantness of drinking out of plastic or paper cups, let alone the sheer enviromental waste.

DH buys a bag of coffee at £9 each and that lasts about 3 weeks. He gets a cup of coffee in the morning from that and a 2nd bag for one a day at work too. If he buys one at work it's £3 per cup so a good saving.

I tend to make my own hot chocolate a few times a week and grab one out and about a few times a week in order to save there but often it's the sitting down somewhere warm is worth paying for or meeting a friend for some social interaction option

ForestDad · 27/09/2022 12:56

Bag of beans to grind at home £3-4 for two of us.
Probably 2 coffees out/month on average £3 each.
So £3.50/week.
My workplace has free tea/coffee but the coffee is terrible so I take my own grounds in a cafetiere mug to make halfway through shift. It's not possible to pop out for a coffee there but it would be nice sometime. Plenty of time to chat though...

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/09/2022 12:59

I treat myself to probably 2 a week- 1 of which will be in the park when taking my toddler out.
I dont drink alcohol, probably go out for dinner once every couple of months- so I wont feel bad for spending money at a local business.

Pengwinn · 27/09/2022 12:59

I'd say maybe once a week max, it's £3 for a large latte and I enjoy every sip!

What was the point of the last nasty comment?

And why stick 'diminutive' in there?

catandcoffee · 27/09/2022 13:09

Before Covid lockdown about £14 a week.
Now, nothing on takeaway coffee.
I make my own milky coffee at home.

I don't waste money on buying coffees, I don't like costa and all of those types of brands, they taste revolting.
I am a complete pleb and only like instant. "Proper" coffee always tastes a bit sour and much too strong.

Exactly

Rabidturnip · 27/09/2022 13:30

Ordinarily, £0 most weeks, but DD and I both love a pumpkin spice latte so we are having one a week as a treat.

mewkins · 27/09/2022 13:47

When I worked in an office I would get one or two coffees a day from the subsidised coffee counter. I've saved a lot since wfh and now only get a couple a month from a coffee shop. I have a nespresso machine and buy cheaper pods on offer. They usually work out at 10-15p a pod and I have one or two max a day.

This sounds like me an my dd. Luckily we don't have a starbucks nearby!

I remember when I first started working, there was a cafe next door that did a coffee (in a styrofoam cup) and a croissant breakfast deal for 99p.

A similar deal near me is now £5 and is very popular!

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/10/2022 22:01

Hmmmmm varies. I love sb. Have chai latte about £ 3.80/4

can be once a week. Maybe twice if seeing other friends or fancy one , but other weeks I may not have one for 1/2/3 weeks

Banana2079 · 01/10/2022 22:03

£0
If I really want coffee I’ll make one at home in the morning or make one at work
It’s ridiculous the price of coffee these days plus I can only drink decaf as it makes me so jittery

Goldmember · 01/10/2022 22:09

I only drink coffee at home 1-2 a day, bean to cup machine. A packet of coffee beans lasts a few weeks and I only get whole milk for the daily coffee. Less than £1 a day.

lljkk · 01/10/2022 22:11

i don't drink coffee.
I do drink tea.
I rarely buy tea when out. So expensive for what you get.

MrsArrDee · 01/10/2022 22:19

Depends...I've probably spent at least £10 this week, other weeks I don't buy any.

Our local Softplay place does amazing coffee, unfortunately to enjoy it, you have to put up with sweaty noisy kids, but the. coffee is delicious.

We just make coffee at home. Zero spent on coffees outside the home. Learned about the 'latte factor' a long time ago

@IDidntKnowItWasAParty

🙄🙄 you do realise 'the latte factor' isn't actually about lattes?

what else do you apply the principal too?
how much have you invested?

@beanyl I used to spend a lot on take out coffee pre covid, there was a drive through on the way to afternoon school pick up & several others en route to all the after school activities. Covid really broke the habit. I think I've had about 4 since Feb 2020 (I was an early covid avoider!). They were all independent places outside. I had my first Starbucks (since Feb 2020) as I fancied the Spiced Pumpkin Latte, I was fully expecting to find it like washing up water (as pre covid Starbucks had gone downhill & I make strong coffee at home) but I actually really enjoyed it! I'll be doing it again before they move onto Christmas Flavours!!

.At home I have a Philips Senseo, which has pads, not pods. Which work, for me (I use 2 per coffee) about 32p x 2 cups per day on average. 64 p then usually, plus cream (lower carb) & not including electric etc.

it's fair enough to say people coukd save the money & they'd have 40 billion pounds by next July, but in reality, very few actually save it. And small things you enjoy are good for you too!

my friend always used to go on about how much of a waste of money it is & I could save it & have a few days away. at the end if the year. I said maybe if it was either or I'd consider it, but it wasn't & actually, thinking about it, I enjoyed the coffee & so the pleasure was spread out over the year instead of over a few days... my choice.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 01/10/2022 22:43

Around £10, I go out for breakfast most days and get one then and often grab one in the afternoon too. I have a lot of spare time, most of it revolves around getting coffee so sometimes more than twice a day

AmazingBouncingFerret · 01/10/2022 22:54

I buy roughly £350 - £400 of coffee per week. Grin

strugglingmum82 · 01/10/2022 22:56

Nothing. I'm a barista

eurochick · 01/10/2022 23:04

Maybe 65p a day? I have two nespressos. I think they are about 30p per capsule, plus a few pence for power and water. I only buy coffee out very occasionally.

beanyl · 01/10/2022 23:07

Its nearly time for my weekly spiced pumpkin latte and i'm so looking forward to it!

£54 per week approximately. I see it as a hobby.
