Hello everyone..
I have just made a claim for Ca, i made a mistake on the 1st form, i put down that my employment ended on the 23rd of march 2022 instead of 23rd feb 2022, when i submitted the 1st form it asked me to send in my p45 etc, when I submitted the 2nd form with the correct end date it didnt ask for my p45, would this be correct? Or should I send it in anyway?

Also does anyone know how long its taken to just now to be awarded?

Tia x

I applied for ca Thursday last week, so right at the beginning of waiting. I also claim universal credit and waiting fir them to decide whether to grant the care element on there also. Hope your not waiting too long 🤞😊

Are you aware that carers allowance is deducted pound for pound from UC ?
Emzi89 · 04/04/2022 13:03

@Babyroobs do they? I think I read somewhere that they did but I'll be honest I don't fully understand how it all works 🤷‍♀️🙈

Knittedfairies · 04/04/2022 13:09

You get NI credits if you are in receipt of Carers Allowance so it may be worth claiming for that reason.

Ok so if you claim carers allowance that will be paid seperately to UC weekly or however often you have requested it be paid on the application. This is then deducted on a monthly basis from your Uc at an averaged rate of £292 per month or maybe slightly higher once rates have gone up for the new tax years. However you should also get a Uc carers element added on to your Uc claim with your other elements so you do end up better off by £163. Have you reported a change on your Uc journal home page that you are a carer? You will need to do this to get the carers element added. If you are claiming for a disabled child then you should also get a disabled child element. You can ask for carers element to be backdated to when the DLA was awarded. There is no financial gain to claiming carers allowance except that you get a £10 Christmas bonus I think and claiming it pays a better class of NI contributions for you.

Emzi89 · 04/04/2022 13:50

@Babyroobs thank you for explaining. Yes I've done 2 change of circumstances with UC one for my son now recieving dla and one for myself as his carer. It's not really worth getting carers allowance then is it? Well doesn't seem it to me....

Canyouanswermyquestion · 04/04/2022 14:17

@Emzi89 are you in scotland? If so youll get the 2 yearly payments of carers allowance supplement if you receive carers allowance

Emzi89 · 04/04/2022 15:06

@Canyouanswermyquestion no I'm not in Scotland but thank you anyway :)

I applied back in January as I was caring for DH and I am still waiting. It's a joke as he has since died!

Sorry to read of your loss. Carers allowance would run on for eight weeks after a death so you should still receive the payment. I know it is too late for you now but for others caring for a terminally ill person, they will fast track it if you let them know. I have successfully managed to speed things up this way for clients and it was paid within a few weeks.
painttheworld · 04/04/2022 15:30

Do claim carers anyway, as it counts towards future state pension op. They will back to date of claim.

Yes I think worth claiming for the NI contributions.
Imitatingdory · 04/04/2022 15:37

As well as the benefit of NI contributions it is worth claiming CA as some places offering free carers’ tickets require proof of CA rather than proof of DLA/PIP, and in some LAs CA is included in the eligibility criteria for carers’ grants.

SBParker99 · 10/05/2022 16:40

@77kidsandcounting how long did your claim take if you don’t mind me asking?

Emzi89 · 10/05/2022 17:22

@SBParker99 I am still waiting! Lol I applied on 31st March. Had a letter just stating I am claiming for my son last week so hoping not much longer.

Canyouanswermyquestion · 10/05/2022 17:57

@SBParker99 I'm on week 11 now and still waiting. Called yesterday and its still not been dealt with

Emzi89 · 11/05/2022 18:28

@SBParker99 I rang today for an update. They told me decision was made on the 6th May and letter sent out on 10th May. However coz it's a new claim she couldn't give any details over the phone so just wait for the letter I guess 🤔🤷‍♀️

Good luck to you and hope you're not waiting much longer.

SBParker99 · 11/05/2022 18:45

@Emzi89 did she say how long it would take to recieve back payment? glad its sorted now :)

Emzi89 · 11/05/2022 18:47

@SBParker99 no she said because its a new claim she couldn't tell me anything so don't even know if actually been successful or not. I will keep you updated when I finally get the letter though.

SBParker99 · 11/05/2022 18:50

@Emzi89 thank you, i’m only on week two of waiting so a few weeks to go for me, i think it’s usaually 3-5 days for payment so hopefully you’ll get it soon
