Can't tell anyone, paid the mortgage off today!

We don't really talk about finances to friends or family so it would seem a bit odd to tell anyone but I feel like I want to celebrate!
After years of overpaying on our mortgage, we paid it off today! It feels a bit of an anticlimax so far because it will take a little while to get the deeds etc (if we even get sent a copy now, maybe it's all digital). But it's a really big event!

Congratulations!

we’re going to pay ours off in April - DH just received his bonus today, which is enough to see the mortgage off.

Wish I could say the same about school fees - another 10 years until we’re clear of those…!

But at least there will be the head room of no mortgage now though

@Akite Congratulations, I see this is 12 months ago.
Did you have a Special Holiday?

SNWannabe · 28/03/2023 09:10

We also paid ours off this month, sadly it doesn’t really make much of a difference as our payments were really very low… so whilst it’s nice it’s not life changing, especially in the current climate. Still both need to work, still need to decide between much needed holiday and even more needed DIY this year…

Yes funny it seems much longer ago than just a year. Yes we went on a big holiday last summer, which was wonderful! Now we're just saving up for funding uni.
congrats to @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads and @SNWannabe as well!

That's great news OP, a little celebration is in order. Go out for a lovely meal. We have also been overpaying for about 8 years now and we finally pay ours off on the 1st day of May. We are so excited too. We will be out celebrating.

Xenia · 16/04/2023 11:02

Same for me this week (although I had to leave £92 on it if I wanted to pdo the payment online - which I did) so will have to call them to finish the last 92 of it.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/04/2023 08:24

As I says above, paid off the mortgage 3 weeks ago today.... 3 days later DH was put in notice of redundancy!!it's like landing on a snake on the 99th square.

spacechimp79 · 17/04/2023 12:35

Sorry to hear that @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads

I can't wait to finally pay off my mortgage, have another 5 months to go!

snowbellsxox · 17/04/2023 12:44

Well done that's a great achievement

SmugglersHaunt · 17/04/2023 12:56

Congratulations! I did it a few years ago and it still feels great. I probably think about it briefly several times a week still. I didn’t get sent deeds but the bank sent a letter saying congratulations! I went in the Land Registry website and it was lovely to see ‘Lender: None’ next to my address

Xenia · 17/04/2023 16:18

Well done to all (and sorry about the potential redundancy). I paid off that last £92 today after calling the lender and all they have to do now is tell the Land Registry.

Gladioli23 · 17/04/2023 16:56

I'm also hoping to pay off (or at the very least pay down significantly) my mortgage, but that also won't be for at least another 5 months.

Congratulations to all those paying it off, you must feel so pleased! I know I will.
