If you unexpectedly had an extra £100k, what would you spend it on?

50k off mortgage, 15k to redecorate, get garden sorted, 15k on family holiday, 10k away for each dd.

80sMum · 31/08/2021 08:37

I would give £50k to each of my DCs.

MrsG30 · 31/08/2021 08:39

I’ve often thought about this, I don’t need millions, £100k would be life changing!

Pay off debts
Change car (not to anything fancy or pricey, just more practical and a bit newer)
Deposit on house (can get a 3 bed semi here from about £140k, north west)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/08/2021 08:42

Pay off some of my mortgage and go on some fabulous all inclusive/ private villa type holidays!

Bouledeneige · 31/08/2021 08:47

Pay off some of my mortgage.

runwithme · 31/08/2021 08:52

Some towards our mortgage, some in DC's uni/home savings and the rest towards a holiday

turnthebiglightoff · 31/08/2021 08:53

@FabulousIAm the house next door to mine (2 bed, postage stamps garden) has just sold for £875,000. So yeah, 100k isn't that much for house buying!!

desperate4spring · 31/08/2021 08:56

Use it to get DC through private school.

SquirrelFan · 31/08/2021 09:27

£25k to mortgage
£45k to deposit on small flat to get DC on property ladder
£15k to redecorate, including hiring a designer (not been done in 20 years)
£15k on liposuction, facelift, peel and fillers/botox (basically just put myself in the hands of a reputable cosmetic surgeon), and varicose/thread vein sorting. I'm over 50 and I've put up with looking horrible for most of my adult life-no more!

Theimpossiblegirl · 31/08/2021 09:34

@FabulousIAm

People saying a deposit on a house? What? Where does everyone live where you cant buy at least one house for that amount? Id buy a house with plenty of land for an animal sanctuary and put ten grand away.
Where does everyone else live that houses are more than 100k?

The real world?

ChickenTimeBomb · 31/08/2021 09:36

£75k towards a house. The rest I'd spend on a boob reduction, newer car and a special holiday.

billiebeeme · 31/08/2021 09:43

Get the garden done, maybe pay a bit off the mortgage. Holiday to Disney in Orlando with the kids when they are a bit bigger. Mostly though we would use it to fund my dh to retrain or start a new business.

Orangesox · 31/08/2021 09:44

Pay off my car loan, then the rest off mortgage. Wouldn't tell a soul, have very money grabbing mother who would want half for her "essential" house renovations that she's talked herself into because she's bored.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 31/08/2021 09:44

Boring, but: go to an IFA. Probably pay 30-40 towards the mortgage, invest the rest aggressively in a high risk/return diversified investment approach to use for... whatever (uni fees, retire abroad, schooling) when ready.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 31/08/2021 09:47

25k to each of the three children and 25k towards the mortgage

Boring as 😀

Smurf123 · 31/08/2021 10:03

It'd be able to extend my maternity leave to dd is 11 months instead of returning to work when she's 18weeks old in December.

Pay to take my parents and brothers and me, dh, ds and dd to go to Disney world for Christmas 2022 - my mum's dream to have all our family especially her 2 grandkids together in Disney for Christmas

TangledTrees · 31/08/2021 10:05

£50k deposit for a buy to let
£40k off mortgage
£10k holiday

MsJuniper · 31/08/2021 10:05

I'd use £20k to pay off car loan and CC debt accrued while studying.

£20k for holiday/kids/family.

£60k would mean we could staircase to purchase the rest of our shared ownership house & the freehold.

Our outgoings would be massively reduced and we could have a better quality of life on our current salaries. It would change everything.

QueenHofScotland · 31/08/2021 10:06

I would probably use it to buy a small holiday home, within 2-3 hours of my home so that I could use it with my family a lot.

QueenHofScotland · 31/08/2021 10:09

If I could buy a house with plenty of room for an animal sanctuary for 100k then I would do that and buy dd2 a pony.

But 100k wouldn’t even nearly be enough for that type of properly here. That would require £500 - £900k here

LindaEllen · 31/08/2021 10:14

Buy half of DP's house meaning a) he (we!) could he mortgage free and b) I was a home owner too.

Fill up my premium bonds account.

Get the bathroom done.

That'd be 100k I think.

FuckingFabulous · 31/08/2021 10:36

I'd buy a flat or a 2 bed house and rent it out

HoneysuckIejasmine · 31/08/2021 10:38

Pay off some of the mortgage.
Install under floor heating in the conservatory.
Get the stairs rebuilt and new banisters etc.
Replace all the internal doors.

Ah, middle age is so exciting, eh?

FuckingFabulous · 31/08/2021 10:39

Where the heck do you live?!? I live in the south west. You might be able to buy a small patch of woodland or a 2 bed terrace for that. House with land?! Where do you live!!
HeronLanyon · 31/08/2021 10:40

I think fabulous may have misread it for 1,000,000 ?
