If you unexpectedly had an extra £100k, what would you spend it on?

A caravan and a car to tow it
A nice holiday to Italy to do the tourist itinerary we've had planned for about 5 years Grin
Pay a chunk off the mortgage

Guineapigbridge · 31/08/2021 06:25

A fuck off 6 month holiday somewhere like Croatia or Sardegna. Like catered, fancy villa, a convertible to drive, and a tutor to take care of the kids' home schooling.

Dreams.

ReallyRatherBlonde · 31/08/2021 06:25

£60k off mortgage. £15k to change my kitchen layout around and a bit of work in the garden. £5k to clear debt. The rest between a big family holiday, a car or possibly a small horsebox

Mommabear20 · 31/08/2021 06:26

Some towards a house deposit and renovation, a new car, and a trip to Disneyland Paris with DH and our 2 kids 🥰

Guineapigbridge · 31/08/2021 06:26

Realistically, a deposit for each of my kids to buy a house.

swapsicles · 31/08/2021 06:31

Ooh, would love 10k let alone 100k!
Erm, pay off debts, get mine and dd's cars serviced, something rarely done tbh, mines making an odd noise Confused
Already going on a mini break at end of the month so upgrade that hol a bit.
Then update the flat so its more homely or maybe sod it, and move me and dd to a little house by the sea Grin
I'm no good at this sort of thing, been bumping along as a single parent for many years just having enough to live with the odd treat so splurging is something I'd have trouble doing, just in case anything went wrong!

Lanique · 31/08/2021 06:31

Pay last dregs of mortgage
Put a chunk into my pension
Buy some land off next door
Give rest to dds towards house deposits

Vaselike · 31/08/2021 06:34

50k towards the mortgage
50k would cover my share of family income/contributions to being a SAHM for two or three years. I think I’d do that for a little while.

PermanentTemporary · 31/08/2021 06:45

Give 70k to my father in law towards nursing home fees for my mother in law. I'm glad she's doing ok but I think her nursing home is going to eat up every penny he has and then some. 70k is probably about a year.

30k on the upstairs of the house. Replacing the floorboards, full replastering, proper joiner to do built in wardrobes and bookshelves, professional painting. I got as far as redoing the electrics and then couldn't afford to do anything else.

DwangelaForever · 31/08/2021 06:47

House improvements, particularly a new bathroom and I would convert my attic to a usable room too!

Buggerthebotox · 31/08/2021 06:50

Give up my hated job. Wouldn't see me for dust. Grin

Darker · 31/08/2021 06:56

£10k each to my kids. Reduce my hours at work for a year. Get my house and garden sorted.

It doesn’t go all that far, does it?

felulageller · 31/08/2021 06:57

Other than mortgage I'd get a California campervan, have a fancy meal out with my friends, cosmetic 'improvements', invest in a new business.

Smarshian · 31/08/2021 07:13

I received this earlier this year. It has all gone on the mortgage apart from 10k which we have kept in an emergency fund.
Reduced term of mortgage by 16 years.

Beautiful3 · 31/08/2021 07:14

@FabulousIAm I'm in the UK, where I am £100,000 wouldn't be enough for a bedsit/flat let alone a house. Around here a mid terraced house costs àround £200,000.

I'd use the money to pay off my mortgage and go on holiday.

LakieLady · 31/08/2021 07:14
@FabulousIAm Where do you live where you can buy that for £90,000?
£280k for a new-build one bed flat here (SE, but 50 miles or more from London).

And they're on an industrial estate and overlook a supermarket car park - hardly a wonderful area!

LakieLady · 31/08/2021 07:17

I'd probably buy a BTL flat in a cheaper part of the county. The income would enable me to top up my pension enough to retire.

Unless I could find another investment that gave me around £800 a month, which seems unlikely.

bigbaggyeyes · 31/08/2021 07:18

I live East Midlands and I might get a v small house in a shitty area for 100k, I'd love to know where I can buy a house with a load of land for 100k.

But in my case I'd put a few quid away for my dc, then pay a chunk off the mortgage.

Retrievemysanity · 31/08/2021 07:18

Pay off my friend’s debt, big holiday abroad with DH and the DC, lots of theatre trips and meals out, give a decent amount to charity.

Morningstar66 · 31/08/2021 07:23

Assuming my oh doesn't get a say. I would use it to cover the three years of childcare until my two go to school.during that time I would leave my job, buy an incredible graphics computer and use those three years to train up in a related feild to become a game artist, build a portfolio, by the required assets and software which isn't cheap.

I'm trying all this now but can't afford any high spec computer or the hundreds a month and havent much free time between working and childcare. 100k would buy time. Oh could probably take a sabbatical too :)

Cupoteap · 31/08/2021 07:23

House, a new car and holiday for the kids

AuntieMarys · 31/08/2021 07:23

I wouldn't tell anyone!

Whattheschitt · 31/08/2021 07:25

I'd pay off my parents mortgage and take everyone on a family holiday to New York as my DH has never been nor my parents.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 31/08/2021 07:25

Get all the house renovations done in one go with actual workmen not DIY.
Bit in the holiday fund
Bit off our mortgages
And buy everything I have in my Lego shop basket. All 4k of it. GrinGrin

MiddleParking · 31/08/2021 07:28

In fantasy windfall land I’d spend it on clothes and holidays. In real life I’d put it on my mortgage probably.
