Hi all, happy May. Welcome to this months thread. I'll load up the link later. If anyone else wants to do it, feel free, I'm rubbish at it.

The idea of this thread is to earn a bit of extra cash, as the title suggest. Have a look and these threads go back a while and might give you some ideas.

Newbies welcome. We're a lovely, helpful lot.

@viixie They send tasks out to suit your criteria so they may be all different prices dependant upon your details on your profile.

Frenchdoors1 · 14/05/2021 18:21

@StreetLightsHoney I didn't have to send them any ID, but, it was a long while ago and it could very well have changed since I applied.

AnotherOne4 · 14/05/2021 18:50

@viixie

Earnt my first bit of money ever... £1.38 on prolific 🤣 are they all small amounts like this?
Well done!! £1.38 is actually quite good. A few jobs pop up worth a fiver or more, but you have to be super quick to get them. Keep chipping away at it though, all the pennies add up. I just did a QMEE for 11p Grin

I'm a little lost tonight @Catatemyhomework without SD, so I know how you feel Sad

@leavesleepingdogs

So after reading this thread I applied for a few companies. Failed WWW (still baffled by this) but am on Rev and got past the rookie level which is great. Also on Prolific and got my LB test next week.

Are there any Revvers on here who could answer a couple of Qs?
Are all Revver transcripts graded? They're very vague about it and just wondering if I should wait to see my grades as I go or should just plough on. I really don't want my metrics to suddenly plummet and I get kicked off.

Also, do you find it gets easier, or you get faster as time goes on? At the moment it's taking me forever to do each transcript. Also it's really hard to find files with decent audio quality etc. which adds to my time, trying to slog through and find them.

Does it get better once you make it to plus?

Can't answer your questions, but I've just started with Rev too and moved to Revver but then immediately got a warning after I got a 3 grade which took me below the 4.5. And now I seem to be getting 4 marks which is lowering my average. It's also taking me ages to do each job but I'm determined to keep going. Have you used the forum to ask others to help with tricky bits? Maybe that's the answer to getting the metrics up. I haven't tried it yet because it seems that will make everything take even longer but perhaps that's the answer to getting better scores...? How are your metrics atm?
Redcrayons · 14/05/2021 19:58

@viixie £1.38cis a good one! You’ll never make your millions on there. I get £10 ish per month but I’m not logged in that much. I like that the surveys are quite interesting and you never get screened out.

And they pay out super quick as well.

singsingbluesilver · 14/05/2021 20:28

Just had an email confirming the Appen FB news survey is going down to once a week. I barely make £50 a month there now. I think I will be saying farewell to Appen. I have signed up to loads of projects, but nothing else in 5 months that I can practically do.

Catatemyhomework · 14/05/2021 20:38

@AnotherOne4, it's been weird not working tonight. 🙄 It actually feels like a Friday! 😊

viixie · 14/05/2021 20:47

@StreetLightsHoney yes I had to take a photo of my driving license

Rad2016 · 14/05/2021 21:25

Hi guys, is anyone doing the internet assessor on LB? I just got an invite. the pay is not too bad. I hope the exam is easy

Frenchdoors1 · 14/05/2021 21:29

Oh dear...I've just received an email from Appen.
I've failed P**le
Angry

Rad2016 · 14/05/2021 21:33

@Frenchdoors1, same here. I don't get it. On my project page it says work this, that appeared even before i took the quiz. the quiz was exactly like B*ne so it doesn't make sense to me.

Frenchdoors1 · 14/05/2021 21:36

@Rad2016 Exactly, did loads of B**e over the last year or so and this is the same project Confused
I would like to know the correct answers though as it's very subjective isn't it.
Words fail me Hmm

Frenchdoors1 · 14/05/2021 21:37

Loads on chat in the same boat too.

swiftt · 14/05/2021 21:37

@leavesleepingdogs I do Rev primarily. Once you make it to Plus, I find it much more worthwhile. I stick to the better paid files (80 cent per minute as a minimum) and you also get access to best effort files in Plus, so much better pay and way less pressure as they aren’t graded. They are my bread and butter income for the week, and then I also usually do a few Line files with decent audio so it’s more a case of just editing and proofreading which saves me some time.

Once you’re out of Rookie, you only get a portion of files graded. I’d say I get maybe 1 in 10-15 files graded. Apparently shorter files are graded more often.

Frenchdoors1 · 14/05/2021 21:40

Haha, I've just read the email again and they said they'll keep me in mind in case there's a need for more raters in the future!!!
Eh?! Hmm

Gatekeeper · 14/05/2021 21:53

I've just got the rejection email as well after I took the test again. Not a clue what they are looking for really as I was on B**e without any issues. Pah!

peabrainer · 14/05/2021 22:08

@swiftt wow you are a Plus! Any tips of getting my metrics up? Do you ever use that Lend A Ear facility when you have inaudibles? I have been penalised for mistyping things when they are in odd accents. It's the first time I've tried transcription work and it's all new to me!
I followed your tip of choosing shorter ones to start with - thank you!

MollysMum09 · 15/05/2021 06:37

I qualified for Su**land on Appen, but was never given SRT access. I emailed them about it and...nothing.

Didn't do so well in the Liobridge exam but they have said I can do it again. I just don't know if it's worth all of the many hours it is going to take me - maybe this just doesn't 'click' for me.

swiftt · 15/05/2021 06:47

@peabrainer I really went for it and hammered the minutes in when I started, think I was plus within a week or so! Grin I do use Lend an Ear if I’ve got a lot of inaudibles, but definitely not for all of them. I read it’s better to use an inaudible than guess, though. I’m quite picky with my files and only do ones I know I can do well if they’re potentially going to be graded, so I’ve only had 5s for my metrics so far. I keep expecting to get dinged for something but maybe I’ve been lucky so far! Most files pay an average of 10-20 cents more per minute once you hit plus too, so it’s so much more worthwhile! This is the first time I’ve done transcription too, so I think it’s just a case of sticking to their guidelines and being as accurate as you can.

ruralwanderer · 15/05/2021 08:37

I've had the Po*e failed email too 🤷‍♀️

AnotherOne4 · 15/05/2021 09:35

@LoLo2020 @Frenchdoors1 SD IS WORKING!!

Frenchdoors1 · 15/05/2021 09:37

@AnotherOne4 You're kidding! Thanks for letting me know.

AnotherOne4 · 15/05/2021 09:38
**@LoLo2020* @Frenchdoors1* SD IS WORKING!!
I got a little excited and had to post quickly. Turns out I got 2 jobs Sad and it died again

@MrsWombat should have included you too.....

Frenchdoors1 · 15/05/2021 09:39

@MrsWombat SD is working

LoLo2020 · 15/05/2021 09:40

Oh no! I felt so excited ha ha!!! I'm convinced it'll start up again, they've got to fix the issues. I've ended up joining Rev and LB yesterday, Thanks for the heads up @AnotherOne4 ❤️
