Hi all, happy May. Welcome to this months thread. I'll load up the link later. If anyone else wants to do it, feel free, I'm rubbish at it.

The idea of this thread is to earn a bit of extra cash, as the title suggest. Have a look and these threads go back a while and might give you some ideas.

Newbies welcome. We're a lovely, helpful lot.

Been doing lots of reading but feel like I just come up against issue after issue even in the setting up stage of these Apps and websites...

Feel like we need an earn £10/a day for absolute beginners who have no clue what they are doing thread!! 🤣

I’ve just had a look at Rev, signed up but it seems I’m only able to buy their service rather than do any work for them, am I in the wrong place?

p.s well down to everyone with your amazing amounts earned last month, it’s really inspiring --if I could only get everything to work

Rad2016 · 06/05/2021 11:43

I have received another invite to apply to LB maps. fingers crossed I get seleceted again. Will do my best to take it this time. I sent them a nice email why I couldn't take it and thank God they undertand

WouldbeVa · 06/05/2021 11:47

I’ve had my first LB invite to maps, what does it involve? The job description isn’t very informative.

MooseInTheHouse · 06/05/2021 11:48

@yogz1976 crispthinking.typeform.com/to/fSclfS

YonderTweek · 06/05/2021 11:59

@mrswombat I do the same. I'm constantly switching windows and tabs and googling stuff in the background, so if they are only recording movement in the SRT window, I'm screwed. Although I did read in the chat that they don't do it. Also everyone says that the user metrics are way off and not to trust the readings. We shall see! Hopefully we will all get paid.

Actually I just checked my total review time since I started and it's pretty much spot on, so they can't hold me reading Wikipedia in a different window against me. Grin

Thank you all for your comments on the mortgage! I think we will end up relying on my husband's income and if they need evidence of mine I can give them my bank account transactions for the last X months so they can see that there is money coming in. We can afford the mortgage and should be able to prove it, but I'm still a bit nervous because I feel like an in between person because I'm not employed but also not unemployed, and I don't really feel like a proper self employed person either. Oh well, as long as there is some money coming in, I don't really care. Haha. Fingers crossed we sell this house, get a new mortgage, find a new house and a new school for the kiddo by September. Shock

Anyway, back to SRT...

seizethecuttlefish · 06/05/2021 12:05

@Thoughtsfortheday it's all a bit overwhelming at first.

Look at Appen and sign up. It's www.connect.Appen.com

The other is Crisp, which is social media moderation but there is a long wait list. www.crispthinking.com

Things like prolific and intellizoom are also good. I think these links are correct. www.prolific.co and www.intellizoom.com These are surveys and I earn a steady 50 a month from these.

Lionbridge is like Appen and is a project site. Great to get on to. Search Lionbridge jobs.

Ask away too as everyone hear is lovely.

@Thoughtsfortheday
It does take a while to get going. I applied to crisp and then appen but it took at least 6 months to get work from crisp and probably 4 months for appen.
At first all I had was prolific which on it’s own won’t make you much. I did match betting as well when I first started trying to earn a bit extra, it does work and at the beginning the offers are easy it just takes some time to work out what you are doing.
I have now got in to a good groove of making an extra £300 pcm on top of my day job so it’s worth persevering.

MooseInTheHouse · 06/05/2021 12:31

I am struggling with how to categorise on S*land and realise I was categorising more freely than people in the chat advise.

Eg If a musician say has African American as a category label at the bottom of the Wiki page but no other mention is that enough to identify as Racial/ethnic origin?

If a town/state has headings for local government and hospitals, should that be government and health?

Any thoughts?

MooseInTheHouse · 06/05/2021 12:31

@YonderTweek so exciting to be buying a new house. Good luck with it 🙂

WouldbeVa · 06/05/2021 12:34

Looking at LB jobs there are a few uk ones other than maps. Does anyone know the best one to apply for? I work in e-commerce - web so hopefully will have some abilities

YetAnotherRainyDay · 06/05/2021 12:41

Re: the SRT tool. It records movement in other windows, but if you stop using your mouse/keyboard it'll start recording that time as inactive (which they don't pay you for) I like to give my mouse a quick shake every so often if I'm reading a big Wiki page, etc.

Gatekeeper · 06/05/2021 12:41

stuck again...I am trying to sign up for SRT account and have used the email App have provided in their email but how do I access the verification code they issue if I haven't put my own email in??? I am lost

MooseInTheHouse · 06/05/2021 13:00

Look in the spam of your own email @Gatekeeper

MooseInTheHouse · 06/05/2021 13:01

It’s an alias email address but it arrives at your usual account.

Tohaveandtohold · 06/05/2021 13:05

@WouldbeVa, You can apply for the SME if it’s on there. I did the LB SME for a year, it only lasts for a year unfortunately but i enjoyed it. The exam is very simple and it’s a easy one hour a day job.

swiftt · 06/05/2021 13:12

@MooseInTheHouse I’m the same. It seems from the chat that people are doing both, so it doesn’t seem clear cut. Personally, I haven’t rated as racial/ethnic if it’s just the category at the bottom, and it isn’t mentioned elsewhere. If they’re, say, an activist or something and that’s mentioned then I’d tag as such. No idea if I’m doing it right or not!

UrgentExitRequired · 06/05/2021 13:23

It's now ben just 2 weeks since I joined Prolific and I've made £37! Really happy with that considering I have squeezed it in amongst other things. I have tried other survey sites, but I don't seem to get on as well with them. I find prolific easy to navigate and easy to cash out. I have signed up to Appen but nothing has come through. I would like to get in to transcribing at some point too.

MooseInTheHouse · 06/05/2021 13:26

Thanks @swifft I think I will be a bit more stringent.

Gatekeeper · 06/05/2021 14:02

No sign of my SRT validation code anywhere..not in spam or any other folders...bums

PersianStar · 06/05/2021 14:11

@Gatekeeper I have the same problem, I have raised a ticket but not had a reply yet.

AnotherOne4 · 06/05/2021 14:36

@YetAnotherRainyDay

Re: the SRT tool. It records movement in other windows, but if you stop using your mouse/keyboard it'll start recording that time as inactive (which they don't pay you for) I like to give my mouse a quick shake every so often if I'm reading a big Wiki page, etc.
That’s interesting info. My mouse isn’t always moving as I’m concentrating on reading. Maybe all that time it’s been still I won’t get paid Sad
CocoPrivileges · 06/05/2021 15:09

I'm also on Sd so it's really useful to hear from @MooseInTheHouse, @swiftt and others about how you're interpreting the guidelines - it's really not clear is it? Confused I think I've been bestowing tags too generously e.g. selecting racial/ethnic if someone is described as African-American so I'm going to be stricter now.

swiftt · 06/05/2021 15:23

@CocoPrivileges it’s tough, isn’t it? It seems that most in the chat are having the same sort of issue though, which is reassuring. I’ve reread the guidelines multiple times and still don’t think it’s very clear for that category.

YetAnotherRainyDay · 06/05/2021 16:09

@AnotherOne4 It doesn't kick in straight away so you have some leeway, but I've never actually timed it so I can't say for certain how long without movement a user has. You can see if you've got any "inactive" time recorded by looking at your User Metrics and clicking the columns option and then total inactive time. Hopefully you'll not have any time listed there.

CocoPrivileges · 06/05/2021 16:13

@swiftt sorry to be dim but can I ask where the chat is for S**d?
