@bettyshotspot

It’s great to know you’re still around Smile I hope you’re in a better place now? I remember things were really difficult for you at one point.

I can’t believe it’s been two years, cake for all Grin !

YonderTweek · 16/01/2021 08:28

Oh wow. I didn't know this has been going on for so long! Happy birthday! Cake

I've only been doing this since June but it's already helped us do much as I left my job last year. It really took the pressure off my husband as he doesn't have to bring in ALL the money now. Haha, I even got a letter from Student Loans the other day, saying that I have to start paying my loan back now that I'm in employment again. I was weirdly proud. (Although still miffed that I have the loan left to pay off in the first place, lol.) Grin

CrepuscularCritter · 16/01/2021 09:28

Sorry to hear that @Rad2016 and hope you are not feeling too wretched.

I also had the invite to the insect project. Not sure I like the fast-moving aspect either, but as my main work is totally binned due to Covid, I will give it a go if I can pass the screening.

And on that note, thanks to the help and advice here, I've been able to keep afloat this year. I really appreciate the support.

Crowsandshivers · 16/01/2021 09:43

Sorry to head that Rad. Hope you feel better soon.

With regards to potato statement- I got mine but as it was only a couple of days it is only like £6. Will they add it onto next statement automatically? Thanks

Catatemyhomework · 16/01/2021 09:53

Has anyone else received an email about A*s? Used to be dishes and restaurants and now seems to be road signs!

Wolfff · 16/01/2021 10:47

@Crowsandshivers

When you get your next potato statement you can ask them to include the previous month when you do the invoice.

Wolfff · 16/01/2021 10:48

@Otterses

Lovely to see you on the thread and thanks again, it's made a huge difference to me and my family. Smile

Wolfff · 16/01/2021 10:56

@LimeJellyforBrains

You asked about the Malta projects. Generally my experience has been positive. There were a number of short term ones at the end of 2019 and I have been on a long term one since last summer. It's a good steady source of income.

The work is OK, sometimes interesting, but repetitive. They are tolerant of errors unlike say Potato where I feel I am continually walking on eggshells, so less stressful. Keeping up with the hours is sometimes difficult but you get 2 or 3 warnings at least before they remove you. You can also reduce your hours temporarily in case of illness or a holiday.

GingerBrummie · 16/01/2021 11:28

Morning all,
Thanks for this thread. Im a newbie & hoping to join. I work full time but always love the idea of earning a bit of extra cash!
Couple of quick Qs pls.... Ive noticed where you refer to companies the name has been masked... is this because we are not allowed to mention the companies we are working on?
I noticed Appen is mentioned the most so Iv signed up to them.. am I right in assuming they will pay in USD? (Im in UK).
I will also try Potato as Iv seen that mentioned a lot.
Brilliant posts, thanks so much for starting it! Smile

Scotmum83 · 16/01/2021 11:41

Hello
I'm a newbie on Appen have mainly just done a few surveys but hoping to do more if my kids ever go to school again 😂😂😂🤞🤞🤞 but what I'm not sure about is where you see what you have been paid. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I got automatically paid a random 50p through PayPal but thought I had to do an invoice?? Any help would be appreciated.

Wolfff · 16/01/2021 11:48

@Scotmum83

Are you on the right Appen? If you are on Appen Connect. There should be a tab called 'invoices'. You start a new invoice each month and submit it at the beginning of the next month.

Generally surveys are put on automatically but for long term projects you enter the hours yourself each day.

I surprised you are paid via PayPal, normally you have to open a Payoneer account and are paid monthly in arrears around the 14th.

Gatekeeper · 16/01/2021 11:51

well I received a response to my tickets to App re N**e missing hours and it is the usual cut and paste generic reply and hasn't addressed the issue at all. "Tool issues aren't billable" reads to me that if tool isn't doing what it should then tough luck- you ain't getting paid Angry

Wolfff · 16/01/2021 11:53

@GingerBrummie

For projects on Appen you sign a confidentiality agreement, so that's why the names are masked.

You open a Payoneer account and get paid into that in USD for a small fee. The exchange rate is rubbish though, but no choice.

TeddyDidIt · 16/01/2021 13:06

When I set up my Payoneer account there was an option to make it come automatically through to PayPal, which I did to avoid having to actually use another platform.

GingerBrummie · 16/01/2021 13:15

Thanks @Wolfff

MoreMoneyPlease · 16/01/2021 13:31

Hope you start to feel better soon @Rad2016

@Otterses Yes, thanks for this thread. I've been on here for about 18 months and it's made a huge difference. It's the only thread I've ever stuck with on mumsnet!

I've started a new App project but am not feeling confident...anyone else on P'''lins? I've been doing the one hour a day project for the last year where it's based more on your opinion so I think I've become a bit slapdash...this one needs to be accurate!

3dogdnorth · 16/01/2021 13:34

As a new potato on here I was really excited to get accepted finally. However, although I'm now speeding up, it's not such an earner as I thought. Anyone else feel the same? Not got into any of the surges yet? Is that the way that people are earning a decent amount from it. Maybe it's just that I'm not able to devote enough time to it?

tinyradish · 16/01/2021 15:28

I didn't get an email about A*s @catatemyhomework but I noticed that on the my projects page. What a random change... but I'll take it Grin

Tohaveandtohold · 16/01/2021 15:34

@3dogdnorth, I feel the same way too. I did around 7 hours in December when I got accepted but it wasn’t on the dashboard yet. I got my statement yesterday and it’s less than £10 in total 😠 so that’s less than £2 an hour.
I’ve been doing some 30 minutes here and there and speeding up, I had two tabs open one day but to make matters worse, I got friendly an email that day about a mistake I made when classifying an item which means I’m now trying to be careful but in all, I’m still averaging around maximum of £3 an hour. I’m so fast that I really can’t see any way of speeding up more than that without making mistakes. I don’t think it’s for me. I just want to find a way of doing the minimum this month but i don’t have the zeal for it. To think it took them 18 months to accept me.
I’ll give it a month for now though. I’m not trying to discourage anyone though as I know some people on here make some decent amount from it but I wish I know their trick.

Crowsandshivers · 16/01/2021 15:51

@3dogdnorth I feel exactly the same but after a couple of weeks, I am noticing I am speeding up. To begin with I was doing about 50 per hour as I was checking them again and again but not I'm doing about 80. So hoping this is a good sign?

whysotriggered · 16/01/2021 16:04

@3dogdnorth I agree with you. I am getting quicker but I think I will always be careful so I can't see myself speeding up to the point of even making minimum wage! I have another project which is my main earner so I just do half an hour to an hour a day to make a little extra each month. I hardly ever manage to do a surge! And I agree its not the earner I thought it would be.

bookgirl1982 · 16/01/2021 16:13

Quite agree about potato. I'm doing a little each day to hit the minimum and am getting quicker but suspect other work will always pay more per hour. I'm seeing it as something to keep in the background in case other work dries up or employed job goes. Maybe shifts are more lucrative?

Catawaul · 16/01/2021 17:14

I get about £2 per hour on potato too, but I just see it as time I'd have only spent on MN otherwise.

Is it better to be paid into PayPal or bank transfer?

Truel · 16/01/2021 17:15

I did think there was a bit of disappointment to come regarding Crisp when people called it the holy grail Grin

You can earn okay money on it but you risk making mistakes which then is an issue as the standard expected is 1 mistake in 4000. Unless it's a never ever mistake which is instant dismissal. Not sure how lenient they are on the other mistakes really.

Shifts are £2 per hour on top on the per item rate, but there's a minimum expectation of content moderated. No one has said a figure but I've been told 300-350 per hour is the average amount. The other shifts are separate.

I haven't done the minimum amount yet this month as I've been busy with homeschooling but I will get it done as it's handy to dip in and out of and don't want to get kicked off.

I'm still looking for the real holy grail though if anyone can help?

ElectricEels · 16/01/2021 17:40

I can make £10 per hour before surges on potato but you have to be quick. I do read
quickly though which helps. I mainly do the other shifts now which pay a base rate per hour. I tend to only do these as you aren't reliant on content. I haven't done any of the NM shifts but I guess the bonus there is the extra on top, I struggle to do ppi for an hour straight though. It doesn't work for a lot of people though, I guess like everything. I'm shit at transcription for example and struggle to make £2 an hour on rev.
