MLM Bot Watch 60: It takes a village to sink an island.

Continued chat exposing things such as the lies peddled and the bankruptcies hidden from view.

For those interested, the Lifetime channel is airing a documentary series called Cults & Extreme Belief. I have seen two episodes so far (FLDS, aired yesterday, and Twelve Tribes, aired last week). This coming Sunday is the first part of The Survivors Speak. So far it has been very interesting to see the similarities to MLM brainwashing. The way that active FLDS members still view Warren Jeffs as a prophet rather than a paedophile is remarkably similar to how Young Living customers view their late leader Gary Young.

In other news: I'm thinking about starting a tinfoil MLM as there seems to be a rather strong market amongst huns.

Perhaps the obvious downward trend is projected to continue and that is something they don’t want to share in the form of diminishing cheques. if the audience is seeing smaller cheques each year and also noticing that many are not getting them at all - that’s got to be sending the wrong message to even the particularly dense downlines hasn’t it?

Lockdown has offered the perfect opportunity to obscure the downward trend and change the way way things are presented.

I just wonder if FLP knows the writing is on the wall and wants to muddy the waters and do things differently from now on? The cheques are only good PR if lots of U.K. people are getting them and the numbers are not getting smaller in terms of amounts and the number of people actually getting them.

Others know far more about FLP than I do but in the U.K. there’s Bloodsucker who has diversified geographically and Uber who has, it would appear, been a bit more savvy buying property, but who else is there who is still getting six figure cheques in the U.K.? Not enough to make it feel like it’s really possible to do well for the people at the bottom?

bluefoxmug · 02/06/2020 18:58

have you heard of ringana?
a relative tries to sell me their stuff, apparently fredh organic skincare.

bluefoxmug · 02/06/2020 19:05

oh, relative claims it's not a pyramid, 'just' direct selling like tupperware. i.e. they do actually have products...

Twentytwentyhindsight · 02/06/2020 19:15

@bluefoxmug - sounds like a nasty skin disease...

Sforsh49 · 02/06/2020 19:19

Yawn is on Nurses FB Stories. She's an "ex-childminder who works 15 hours per week on my business and earned £1000 in retail profit in May"
15 hours a week my arse does she not realise we can all see her FB page????

Botbrigade · 02/06/2020 19:25

Anyone spotted the post Yawn has done linking to an article by the Yorkshire Evening Post? So frustrating a proper paper would write that article.

JasperRising · 02/06/2020 19:56

That article is basically just a press release from HQ right? I assume they also want to capitalise on recent growth as much as individual reps.

Spongebobette · 02/06/2020 19:58

It’s ‘promoted content’

In English, an advert

YouokHun · 02/06/2020 20:13

Woman’s Hour tomorrow morning at around 9.50am:

head of the DSA UK defending what she/the DSA erroneously calls “Direct Selling” with the criticism of MLM no doubt eloquently put by the chief of TLC (I’m not naming names here as a matter of course and I’m sure she’s one of you!).

Not to be missed. Eeek!

Twentytwentyhindsight · 02/06/2020 20:27

Thanks @YouokHun, the fabulous owner of Talented Ladies' Club and relentless crusader against pointy scammy 'biznis' opportunities is slated as a contributor- soooo excited!!!!!!!!!!

Spongebobette · 02/06/2020 20:32

Brilliant!

BSintolerant · 02/06/2020 20:50

Excellent! I will be popping on to listen. Grin
The DSA is the equivalent of vampires regulating a blood bank.

BSintolerant · 02/06/2020 20:54

@Botbrigade yes, that’s an advertorial. They cost a lot of money so I suspect that FL is getting desperate for new blood. I don’t think they’re cashing in on money made out of new recruits - that’s BS. They’re lying liars, who lie! (I like that phrase @Whiterangey) 😉

Botbrigade · 03/06/2020 05:00

I get that papers need an income but writing something in the style of a real article is misleading. Yawn certainly (obviously!) didn’t make it clear it’s basically an ad and I didn’t clock it so who else will think it’s genuine? Wrong of any paper to print it I still say.

Bluewavescrashing · 03/06/2020 07:15

Homeschool : we don't do hype or BS here.

Also Homeschool :

Insane growth
Sisterhood
29 promotions
Killing it

Etc etc

Tupperwarelid · 03/06/2020 07:50

Mr Castle has got a new J.O.B. And gone back to work according to Castle’s insta. Guess someone has to pay for the home gym and home improvements.

BSintolerant · 03/06/2020 09:39

Mr Castle is a key worker.

Right, off to listen to the DSA being put in its place on Woman’s Hour. 😊

JasperRising · 03/06/2020 09:59

@Botbrigade I agree. It really wasn't clear. I only thought it seemed like a press release because everything was worded as from people linked to FL with nothing in the journalists voice. Magazine usually have a big 'in association with x' label on their advertorials but I didn't notice that in this instance.

GoldenKelpie · 03/06/2020 10:10

Listening to Women's Hour just now. Who is 'Claire'?

SSDGM · 03/06/2020 10:12

It took the hunbot SIX MONTHS to make the £200 back.

SSDGM · 03/06/2020 10:20

Hang on -
DSA Woman “this is a great opportunity for people who are furloughed to top up income”

But also

“We decided to tell our members not to actively recruit during the pandemic”

You can’t have it both fucking ways.

GoldenKelpie · 03/06/2020 10:22

Very well done TLC/Hannah! Some great points made. Looking forward to hearing about your follow up with DSA representative, Susannah.

Botbrigade · 03/06/2020 10:24

Good effort Hannah. Especially loved the calling out of the FLP rogues.

Botbrigade · 03/06/2020 10:28

If you search the women’s hour hashtag on twitter you will find the MLM Clare is from. It’s one I’ve not heard of.

9dartfinish2nd · 03/06/2020 10:38

Took all of sixty seconds for the pyramid structure to be compared to the corporate structure of the BBC.
