That should cover most of what was discussed in the last thread! I'm just realising I've forgotten transcription sites so I'll add those on now.

As always, referral links are always more than welcome Smile

Thank you @Otterses for all the links. I will have a look after my palfish classes. And thank you for the quick and easy £10 link. 😊

SimplyBlue · 07/02/2020 12:45

Hey everyone, I missed the drama about TMS. He definitely plugged himself a bit more than I personally liked... but he was helpful too. I'm not sure he should have been banned, but I'm not impressed by his reaction... Anyway, all moved on now. Let's just keep helping each other here.

I've been keeping busy with Rev. I'm finding it enjoyable so far, bit tricky at times. Im up to about $70 for this week so far from it, so should hopefully manage to earn the £10 per day target for this week if I complete a few more jobs. I just hope I can manage to keep my metrics high enough that I'm not kicked off, as I've read that can happen to people suddenly!

SimplyBlue · 07/02/2020 12:46

@Tohaveandtohold congratulations to you and your dh!

DontCallMeDarling · 07/02/2020 13:00

@toastytea I'm on 8 months Grin

ifuckarses · 07/02/2020 13:06

I feel like a right nuisance! Just wondering if anyone doing Lionbridge SME who is also on Appen is willing to let me PM them a quick question?

DontCallMeDarling · 07/02/2020 13:12

Congratulations to @Tohaveandtohold and hugs and Brew to those feeling down. I too am feeling pretty down about everything so trying my hand at MB probably isn't a great idea but needs must! Taking it very slow.

SNISR · 07/02/2020 13:13

Does anyone have a link to rev? I'd like to try please. Any referral links?

Hi, hope someone can answer a question about Cloudworkers for me? I used to be on chat from home and I could just log on when I wanted and write messages. Am I right in saying with Cloudworkers I have to schedule times a week in advanced when I plan to work? I find that difficult as I don't know when I will be free, it changes daily for me.

margaritasbythesea · 07/02/2020 13:31

It's worth having a look at Respondent today. I did a few screeners - one about cars which I didn't get because when I did the screener it suddenly seemed to be about electric cars. Also this one about mortgages for $60. This is a referral link.

Thanks for the survey link, Otterses. A bargain on an otherwise fairly unproductive day as DS is home poorly.

I'm on it @ifuckarses. Welcome to PM me!

GachaBread · 07/02/2020 13:46

@dogvscat you have to book a minimum of 12 shifts a week with cloudworkers. 1 shift equals 1 hour so 12 hours per week. Hope that helps.

SimplyBlue · 07/02/2020 13:51

@SNISR they don't do referral links afaik but here's a link to the site. My advice is to take your time over the test transcript they'll give. There might be bits of text missing that you have to type in, as well as editing what is there. I don't think there's a time limit to complete so don't feel you have to rush it. It took about two/three weeks from doing the test to hearing back that I'd been accepted for me. Then I had a couple of practice/training tasks which were low paid - perhaps $2 in total, but after that I got access to more and once I'd completed the first 2 jobs successfully, I became a "revver" and got access to even more. I haven't logged on to find no work available since I was upgraded to revver, and each job I've completed so far has paid anywhere from $8 up to about $30, depending on the length of the audio.

rev.com/freelancers

Catatemyhomework · 07/02/2020 13:51

@SimplyBlue, well done with Rev. How have you managed to find any jobs that have an audio rate of better than 56 - 60%. I have struggled and when I listen to them, I find it hard to hear what they're saying and therefore I haven't felt confident enough to transcribe them accurately. Also, lots of people have unclaimed everything at least twice and when I listen to it, I understand why. I'm afraid I haven't yet been confident enough to actually take the plunge with Rev but maybe I should. I too am terrified about receiving bad feedback on my metrics. Maybe I should give it a whirl as I have very little else going on right now.

dogvscat · 07/02/2020 13:59

@GachaBread thank you. Say I book 5pm for 1 hour but I can't do it then, can I just log on at say 7pm and do it? I'm not sure how strict they are with timings

anxiouswaiting · 07/02/2020 13:59

@dogvscat is chat from home ok to work with? I was thinking of applying

SimplyBlue · 07/02/2020 14:03

@Catatemyhomework

I really took my time over what I've done so far. Some of the jobs have the draft generated in line, but some have no draft at all and you have to write it all from scratch. I haven't felt confident enough to do one of those yet.

They have a tab called "guidance" or something like that, which I only spotted yesterday. I haven't been through it properly but it looked as though they had practice for difficult audio etc so could be useful.

I spent quite a lot of time on my first few projects, I'm starting to speed up a bit now. You might know all this already, but you can maximise the volume in the editor as well as on your headphones/speakers, so I have both at maximum when it's really hard to hear, and you can speed up/slow down the speed of the audio, so I usually have it playing at a much slower speed to start with and can pick up the difficult words that way.

I've got a bit of a process I follow now...

First I give the whole thing a play through and separate out the different speakers.

Next I play it at a much slower speed and do basic edits/add in missing text.

Then I go back to the tricky bits/bits that need research and do the googling etc. to find out the info, or replay bits that are very hard to hear and see if I can make an educated guess based on the context.

Then, go back to any bits I really can't hear, and if I still can't figure it out I use the tags (inaudible/crosstalk).

Then lastly give it one last final play, spell check, and submit!

I think if you can find ones that don't have more than 2/3 speakers max, it's a bit easier to start with. And if you have transcribed the majority of it but there are a few bits you really cannot understand, just don't be afraid to use the tags.

Sorry for the long answer but I hope something there is useful!

dogvscat · 07/02/2020 14:05

@anxiouswaiting yea I found it okay to work with I just didn't have enough time at one point and they kicked me out.

GachaBread · 07/02/2020 14:08

@dogvscat I have never missed a booked shift so can not advise on it sorry. The times that I book suit me down to a tee. Their is an option to offer your booked shift open to a swap with other agents if you can not make it but I have never done that. The supervisors will not change shifts for you either and I think it is frowned upon.

Could any other cloudworkers help with this one?

SimplyBlue · 07/02/2020 14:14

Oh yeah also, my first two projects were graded immediately but since then none of my projects have been graded. I think they will be eventually and I'm pretty nervous as I did one that I would have unclaimed but there was a moment of chaos in our household that I had to go and deal with so missed the hour to unclaim penalty free. I did the work, stayed up all night doing it in fact, but I am not at all confident that it will be good enough! It was bad audio quality in places, a strong accent and lots of local words used that I just could not figure out. So who knows, once that's graded it might lower my metrics so much that I'll be kicked off. I really hope not but if that happens it would not be a complete shock.

Februarycat · 07/02/2020 14:33

@dogvcat Cloudworkers You have to book your shifts the week before by Thurs. If you can't do a shift you can offer it to be swapped but I have not done this. I think if you miss too many shifts they give you a warning.

Lougle · 07/02/2020 14:35

@tohaveandtohold congratulations!!

I'd really like it if the person who signed up using my Freetrade link would put a pound on - it's been sat for days with 'your friend has signed up...'

Catatemyhomework · 07/02/2020 15:02

Thanks for the very helpful feedback @SimplyBlue. It is very useful. I have been really nervous about doing them and so I haven't. I have done a couple of the Rev training ones but nothing harder yet. I have listened to a few of the others but have been to scared to accept them! I always check if they have been unclaimed before and that puts me off. I am getting desperate for money now so may have to give it a whirl. The trouble is, the time it takes me to do them is a lot longer than the specified time on the site, so in the end it works out at about £2 hr. It does seem very pedantic, which I suppose is the point!
