Just that really, do you work part time or full time and what do you get paid for your job? Do you think it’s enough? Worth it? Etc

I’m currently working 36-40 hours a week for just over 1700 a month and I feel like it’s crap pay!? Just wondered how others felt and what position they were in.
If you don’t want to answer then don’t...just move on. It’s an anonymous forum so it’s no biggie!! ( also I have NC’d so not a troll)

40 hours per week for £37k so £711 a week. Some weeks though with extra work on an evening it can easily be 70 hours a week for no additional pay. Ah the "perks" of management Confused

LOliver123 · 29/01/2020 21:06

32 hrs a week , 2k a month after deductions

DonnaDarko · 29/01/2020 21:07

37.5 hours, take home 1600 a month. Should be slightly higher but HMRC have said I owe tax for the last few years.

I think benefits are just as important as salary though. I work from home 100% which has been really good for family life.

Salene · 29/01/2020 21:12

10 hours a week for £170 a week. It's ok , fits round my kids so that's the main thing. It's a step down from previous job and a fair bit less money but it keeps me in a job and in the industry when I'm at I time in my life I've young kids to prioritise

HalfBloodPrincess · 29/01/2020 21:15

24 hours a day 7 days a week for £65ish carers allowance

WombatChocolate · 29/01/2020 21:16

I work 4 days for £41k gross and about £2300 after deductions. I probably average 36-38 hours per week - but that's term time only. My hours look more like a full-timer, but I do have a day off each week. It's just a job that isn't fixed hours and you work until you have finished.

chesterfuckingdrorrs · 29/01/2020 21:17

36hrs a week, full shift rotations for £1950pm after all deductions.

Well paid you'd think but colleagues doing the EXACT same role take home £2300pm (same hours, same responsibilities, LESS experience) and this is after a harmonisation process. So I definitely do not feel well or fairly paid

MirandaWest · 29/01/2020 21:17

I work 37.5 hours a week and have just had a pay rise to £44k. Net pay after pension about £2,600 but that currently includes paying last years self employed tax of about £50 a month.

Also do exam marking self employed - I do about £6,000 or so of that a year

Changeembrace · 29/01/2020 21:17

Yes but if the patriarchy are to blame... explain the dominance of men in low paid unskilled labour?

fairgroundsnack · 29/01/2020 21:17

Between 28 and 100 hours a week, average 40-50 I guess. Take home £6400 per month

3littlemonkeys82 · 29/01/2020 21:21

On average 28 hours a week. In reality with shifts it's more like 36 hours for 7 weeks then 3 weeks off. Annual around 30k. Take home per month £1750.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 29/01/2020 21:27

Norland trained Nursery Nurse - 25 years experience in all early childhood settings and with age groups 0 - 12 years including children with physical and intellectual special needs ( in particular ASD and associated challenging behaviour).

I earn €11 per hour before tax at 20% (am in Ireland) I love my profession but could not afford to work in the sector if I was the main earner in the family.

The rate of pay in no way compensates for the amount of hard physical work responsibility and stress that this job entails.

NoNameIdeas · 29/01/2020 21:27

Officially paid 24.5 hours a week (I teach 4 days a week) and after childcare vouchers and pension deductions etc my take home pay is around 1750 pcm...nowhere near as much as some here but I don't think it's too bad!

MerryMarigold · 29/01/2020 21:29

@FFSFFSFFS I agree with you. It's a highly skilled job and one with huge responsibility. If a bin man breaks a bin, oh well never mind! If you break a baby...or even don't show enough 'evidenced progress' in their development.

I have worked in quite a few jobs from supermarkets and pubs (as a student) to advertising agencies in my 20s. None of them are as physically or mentally demanding as working with kids.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 29/01/2020 21:30

Also - no sick pay no paid breaks & no pension either

eandh · 29/01/2020 21:30

2 1/2 days a week (averages 18 hours as varies on work pattern) gross pay is £1400 but take home £1002 after deductions (pension tax nat ins and saye scheme)

thunderthighsohwoe · 29/01/2020 21:31

10 hours per day at work, then 2-3 hours at home every weekday after toddler is in bed so c60-65 hours per week, more during certain points of the year (reports, Christmas, June).

However I have 12 weeks ‘off’ a year (teacher), during which I usually just do 2-3 hours per weekday evening (c10-15 per week) with the odd full day in school during which I can get the MIL to look after DD.

I take home just over £2k per month, and am at the top of the pay scale without having to go into leadership.

lanbro · 29/01/2020 21:32

Long days so my hourly rate is crap but I work for myself...I can do school runs, attend all school activities, take as much holiday as I want and I'm not answerable to anyone so for me, it's worth it!

GoBackToPartyCity · 29/01/2020 21:33

Detective in the police, 32 hours a week and come out with roughly £1800 pm.

eandh · 29/01/2020 21:33

But on top of salary as In a great pension scheme. Death in service benefit, private healthcare for me and my dependents, 2 years full sick pay and a generous amount after and the team
I work in we are all very supportive of each other and will swap and help each other out if needed that’s worth more than an increased salary

Throughabushbackwards · 29/01/2020 21:33

50-60 hours per week, £50k gross, £2700 a month after deductions.

neversleepagain · 29/01/2020 21:35

18 hours a week (from home) and take home pay is £1400.

TheQueenBeyondTheWall · 29/01/2020 21:36

£20 an hour gross. Same pay for 8 years.

availableforlunch · 29/01/2020 21:37

Officially 32 hours a week but probably closer to 40 actually worked, plus another 15 hours a week commuting. £70k, take home about £3300 net.

MincePiesGetInMyBelly · 29/01/2020 21:45

I work 30 hours per week (well that's what I'm contracted for - sometimes it's more, sometimes less as they're super flexible but it always seems to balance out in the end).

I take home £2400 per month.
