Just that really, do you work part time or full time and what do you get paid for your job? Do you think it’s enough? Worth it? Etc

I’m currently working 36-40 hours a week for just over 1700 a month and I feel like it’s crap pay!? Just wondered how others felt and what position they were in.
If you don’t want to answer then don’t...just move on. It’s an anonymous forum so it’s no biggie!! ( also I have NC’d so not a troll)

louisethedisease · 29/01/2020 20:07

30 hours a week guaranteed hours contract, £1269 a month

Glassmami · 29/01/2020 20:10

33 hours average and earn £9 an hour

ShootTheRunner · 29/01/2020 20:17

I went back to part time work very recently after being a SAHM for ages. 9 hours a week in a school and I've just been paid £260 - I was so excited Grin Hourly rate is just short of £10 per hour.

MerryMarigold · 29/01/2020 20:20

I work 18.5 hours for minimum wage. 8.21 p/h.

I take care of other people's precious children. It has to be the lowest paid, most badly managed, and most looked-down-on work in the world. I don't get it really, when it's so important, but I really like working with the kids and the hours are perfect so I do it, degree and all.

buckleten · 29/01/2020 20:30

30 hours, 30k but lots of benefits too

FFSFFSFFS · 29/01/2020 20:31

@MerryMarigold

It's woman's work. I suspect a lot of people really think you should be doing it for a cup of tea and some biscuits.

Low paid child care also perplexes me. If you were digital marketing social strategy manager for an energy drink you'd probably be getting paid £200k a year.

Somewhere along the lines priorities have gone wrong. (Thanks patriarchy)

£4,200 gross but only 2,800 net (rounded figures), but includes 8.5% pension. 37 hour contact but usually work at least 40. It is fair pay for public sector and I do enjoy it.

Oh don’t be daft. Low wages aren’t limited to female heavy work such as childcare.
What about unskilled manual labour? Low paid heavy male focused. Waste disposal? Low paid male heavy. I could go on.

Winniethepoohbear · 29/01/2020 20:42

£900- £1400 a day (Higher rate is weekends). Very flexible. Usually have a busy two weeks at the start of the month and then I will probably work a couple of days a week for the rest of the month.

CostaLotta · 29/01/2020 20:42

23 hours a week. I get about 1350 a month after deductions.

CuriousMumma · 29/01/2020 20:43

20 hours a week for £700 per month

DH does 40 a week and brings home 1200-1300

blue25 · 29/01/2020 20:43

35 hours a week for £3225 take home pay a month.

KateF · 29/01/2020 20:44

Another degree educated nursery practitioner here. I work at least 40 hours a week at £8.41 per hour. I work extremely hard caring for babies and do a lot of planning and paperwork at home. I absolutely love my job but am struggling to make ends meet.

Newmetoday · 29/01/2020 20:46

40 hrs at minimum wage which is £8.21 per hour. I’m lucky that I don’t need it to pay the bills and I love the people I work with which is why I’m not too bothered. It’s also 8-4.30 fri - mon which is a big plus for me

ComeOnGordon · 29/01/2020 20:52

29hrs - 1750 take home pay

Forestwitch · 29/01/2020 20:53

At most 25 hrs a week with Friday off. Work as a self employed cleaner and work 6 hours each day.
So bring home £1,000 a month.

FFSFFSFFS · 29/01/2020 20:54

@Changeembrace - my view is that childcare is a skill

Oly4 · 29/01/2020 20:55
