So... Anyone up for an earn £10 a day 2020 thread?

HAPPY NEW YEAR Crown Grin

For anyone who wasn't with us last year, we all set about trying to earn £10 a day on top of our usual income. No MLM schemes or anything dodgy. There were some fantastic amounts achieved, mat leaves extended, babies conceived, and redundancies survived. I know the thread got a bit confusing to follow for new starters, but please don't be intimidated! You don't need any special skills or anything to do any of this, it's all really accessible and I promise we'll all try to be clear about what sites/terms are so no one gets too lost Smile

I haven't had time to put a full list together, and to be honest I want to pop off and go make the most of the content on Crisp Thinking (social media moderation site averaging around £10 per hour) but I was planning on popping up a list a bit later today.

If I make an account on oddsmonkey will that do all the work for me (or tell me exactly - and I mean exactly - what to do?

I'm really not unintelligent but I have read and read about matched betting and I still can't get my head around it. I understand on a basic level that if West Ham are playing Man U, I'd bet on Man U to win and on West Ham to win, so I can't lose but would make a very small profit... I think. But I can barely understand the betting websites. And I think I've joined a lot of them before (years ago when I first went on mat leave for things similar to 20 cogs) so wouldn't get any joining bonus, though unsure which I have actually joined.

HarrietThePi · 05/01/2020 00:13

I also still don't really understand cloudworkers. I have read more about it, I know it's adult chat and you're pretending to be a certain character, but surely if different operators play the same character the customers would be able to see you're different people from your text style etc? Also, I don't know if I'd be any good at dirty talk... I'm guessing that's what I'd have to do. After signing up to all and sundry it's only really cloudworkers and matched betting that I have left to try.

girlicorne · 05/01/2020 00:19

@HarrietThePi I would just use Team Profit for now as it's free and they break it all down for you. I did nt pay for odds monkey until I had done all of the sign up offers. But I think you can have a week of oddsmonkey for £1 and there is a link on Team Profit so you could always do that and see if you think it would be useful?

Choosername · 05/01/2020 00:25

Hi everyone, can I join please?! I'm already working 2 jobs atm, but desperately need more cash.

I've tried crisp thinking and have failed 3 times getting 17 or 18/20. Don't know if I should try again as it says the waiting list is really long?

I'm also registering with Appen, but am weary about uploading my CV with my address and references. I've deleted both as I really don't want my employers to know I'll be doing another job, as they are aware of the 2 im doing right now. Is this ok? and they wont want references will they?

justtheonethen · 05/01/2020 07:05

@Choosername Appen will need your CV but I'm sure they will ask if they need address. I don't have references on mine and it was fine. Crisp can be long, or it can be quick. I was up and running within a month of applying but people have waited 6months plus.

@HarrietThePi if you don't think cloud workers is for you don't do it. I would never do anything like that. That said, it can be good money.

TheCanterburyWhales · 05/01/2020 08:58

@choosername, my CV is in Italian and they accepted it. I have a feeling it's to move you on to the next button on the strangely dated looking (to say it's for web platform evaluation that we're doing all of this!) application bit of Appen.
I doubt anybody reads them.

Re survey sites etc. I've stopped looking at everything but Prolific. I've never been screened out of anything on there once it's in my "here's a survey" list. Cashing out is quick and easy too

Something else for newbies with specific skills might consider is advertising your "gigs" on sites like Fiverr. Translation/transcription etc. @BertieBotts, you're in Germany iirc? Might be stuff for German speakers.

thebrightestcoloursfillmyhead · 05/01/2020 09:45

Can I join? Started following last years thread but had a small, non sleeping baby at the time and couldn't keep up.

Annoyingly failed the Crisp test last night by 1 point, getting 18/20. Can i take the test again? And if so is it possible to say there are no risks on any question. There was one where I felt that none of the risks applied but there wasn't an option to select none.

Shelbustotherescue · 05/01/2020 09:58

I'm working my way through 20cogs - has anyone actually managed to get the money back out ?! How does it work ?!

Choosername · 05/01/2020 10:18

Thanks for the replies, I submitted last night. Will try crisp again today, but thinking maybe it isn’t the job for me if I can’t even get past the first test!

justtheonethen · 05/01/2020 10:23

@thebrightestcoloursfillmyhead are you selecting multiple risks for some?

L0obyLou · 05/01/2020 10:25

@thebrightestcoloursfillmyhead this happened to me too! 18/20 but was forced to select a risk for one question that I felt had no risk. Might try taking the test again (and concentrate a bit harder! 😳).

mrsjackrussell · 05/01/2020 10:29

Iv seen these threads before and did find it a bit daunting but giving it a go.

Icanflyhigh · 05/01/2020 10:47

I'd love to get in on this. We're currently travelling to Lincoln to pick up a load of old tat military stuff for DP who is a living history reenactor.

The deal is that we will sell all of the doubled up stuff. I used to make a great extra income selling on ebay and I think I could do it again.

We have a wedding to pay for so every little will help.

thebrightestcoloursfillmyhead · 05/01/2020 11:07

Yes @justtheobethen, selected multiple risks for some questions but there was one (weird) question that I thought was pretty sick but not really a risk only couldn't not select something. Choose vulnerable person in the end as figured some people would believe it, but thought it was probably wrong.

thebrightestcoloursfillmyhead · 05/01/2020 11:08

@l0obylou 18/20 is so annoying isn't it! It's like second place, first loser territory Grin

justtheonethen · 05/01/2020 11:24

@thebrightestcoloursfillmyhead keep trying Smile
Most people tried multiple times.

Sallycinnamum · 05/01/2020 12:00

I've just applied for some work with IsoftStone so I'm hoping with Crisp, Appen and Lionbridge something might come to fruition.

I don't want to get too excited but it would be amazing if I could clear half my debts this year so we can put some money towards a kitchen extension.

DH is going to try matched betting so we'll see what happens.

Spartonian · 05/01/2020 12:46

@Shelbustotherescue I think one person on here has, further up the thread but it took them a few months to do so.

Shelbustotherescue · 05/01/2020 12:58

I'm going to attempt this matched better malarkey - I still can't get my head around it so if someone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it lol

So, Liverpool are playing Everton today, if I put £5 on Liverpool to win and £5 on Everton to win - the return on either is more than the £10 I put down - is that the idea of it ?!!!

HarrietThePi · 05/01/2020 13:17

@girlicorne thank you I will look at Team Profit.

I am not going to rule out cloudworkers completely @justtheonethen but it's definitely going to be the very last thing I try if I try it. I think it could be triggering for me as well. Hate the word triggering but realistically it's probably going to be bad for my mental health. Am wondering if I can trick my mind into seeing it as an acting job though.

themoneyshed · 05/01/2020 13:18

@Shelbustotherescue

The best resource to get started is blog.themoneyshed.co.uk/what-is-matched-betting/

Regarding your example we only use a bookie to BACK an event, we use a betting EXCHANGE to cover the event not happening (so anything BUT what you bet on at the bookie happening)

You would put £5 on Everton to win at a bookie and LAY that bet at an exchange.

So if Everton win your money ends up at the bookie
If Everton draw or lose your money would end up at the exchange
There are examples

HarrietThePi · 05/01/2020 13:19

@Shelbustotherescue I'm a beginner too and am going to look at team Profit for matched betting as a pp suggested. Smile

HarrietThePi · 05/01/2020 13:20

I've got the money shed matched betting page open too and keep referring back to it. I think once I (and you) get started and have some real life experience under our belt it will become easier to understand

themoneyshed · 05/01/2020 13:25

@HarrietThePi

let me know if you feel anything is missing from that guide. Always looking to improve it for people new to Matched Betting ;)

Shelbustotherescue · 05/01/2020 13:29

@HarrietThePi I just can't get my head around it, I've watched the vids on team profit too.

I just need someone to say bet this on this and that on that lol
