Why are MLMs/ Network Marketing 'businesses' a scam?

Spongebobette · 31/10/2018 20:40

This is the 44th thread in a long series about the dangers of network marketing/ MLMs such as Forever Living, Ariix, NuSkin, Arbonne, Younique, Valentus, TS Life, and MANY MANY more!
Posts here will give examples of the lies told by 'top bots' who portray luxury lifestyles in order to lure in new victims and of the other techniques and brainwashing used by MLMs
Over 90% of people who join an MLM end up LOSING money. Always bear that in mind when considering paying money to join!

I've just had a follow request on IG from an Usbourne book lady, never had that type of bot before Hmm

notsurewhatshappening · 06/11/2018 14:34

I promise I'm not obsessed but last night I had a dream I was on holiday with Castle and was yelling at her to stop being so fake! I'm on meds which make my dreams very real, detailed and memorable. I was reading this thread last night which must be why Grin

Spongebobette · 06/11/2018 14:52

I think that counts as a nightmare rather than a dream!!

notsurewhatshappening · 06/11/2018 15:12

Yes, it was quite stressful!

Twentytwentyhindsight · 06/11/2018 15:54

Does Yawn use the hashtag #stationary to indicate she's having to run ever harder just to stand still? (Actually, judging by the cheques, she's actually going backwards)

Twentytwentyhindsight · 06/11/2018 15:55

Sorry about the double use of 'actually' in the last post!

ArbunneHun · 06/11/2018 16:23

Wow! Messiah’s MLM is #smashingit, the #momentum is incredible! We’ve never seen anything like this! America is in #prelaunch!

It must be true: he’s told us so...

notsurewhatshappening · 06/11/2018 16:38

What does any of it mean though? What are the products?? The mint choc chip shakes?

cricketmum84 · 06/11/2018 17:58

Ok serious question:

I've been approached to join one of the aforementioned MLMs by a family member. She swears by the health benefits of one particular product and has used it for nearly 20 years.

Would it really be so bad to join? And if so why? Surely all I'm doing is buying a product and if it helps me then I'm recommending it to friends who it may also help?

Or am I being a bit naive here?

Spongebobette · 06/11/2018 18:37

Hmm

One person’s testimonial is not worth a lot to me, I have to say..I’d need to see the scientific backup. MLMs are really poor at providing peer reviewed research, they tend to rely on tame in-house scientists. That’s why they aren’t actually legally allowed to make any health claims. The reps end up using anecdotal evidence “all I can say is it’s really helped my friend’s mum’s fibromyalgia!”

Can you say what the product/ company is?

Spongebobette · 06/11/2018 18:39

.... andvin any case the whole business model of MLMs is exploitative so I would stay clear on principle.

I’m ex FLP and I did 14 months, got to know Welsh downline and their welsh downline. I attended trainings at their house, their ‘masterclasses’and even conned into Uber’s mindset groups with this Irish guy that REALLY needs exposing for fleecing people, this is when I was just constantly asked for 100s ‘woke up’ and just sat back and watched what they were doing. I still got the inside news and could see what they were doing.

Spongebobette · 06/11/2018 19:41

well done for waking up @entruprenot!!

That bloody scammy mindset coach boils my piss. I remember Uber telling her minions that he was working on their 'personalised mindset blueprints'

What a load of bollox

Paddy1234 · 06/11/2018 19:43

arh I think O'Dodgey is the godfather to Uber's youngest

ChatCatCat · 06/11/2018 19:49

Be great to hear more @entruprenot!!

I was in Castle's Team when she was pushing O'Conman. I'm not sure why people call him that!? I know he charges a lot but Castle passed his 'blueprints' down secretly as MP3 recordings. I was her seventh generation and still received them. No honour amongst thieves!!

Spongebobette · 06/11/2018 20:22

Seven levels? SEVEN???

Pyramid alert!

Electrascoffee · 06/11/2018 20:24

This thread crack me up 🤣 I know it's serious but it's funny too lol

MaisyPops · 06/11/2018 20:26

Spongebobette
Ooh you negferret. It's not a pyramid at all. Sure it looks like one and acts like one and I make money by recruiting teamies who I can push into lots of self purchases for raffles and maybe most people lose money but you're totally mistaken.

It's a 3 sided shape where each point is pointing to your bright future if you really want to work for it.

Really, some people. The only people who claim it's a pyramid are the ones who are too scared to dream big.
Grin

Spongebobette · 06/11/2018 20:46

Silly me, you are right, I must work on my mindset.

Firstbornunicorn · 06/11/2018 20:52

Anyone know anything about Wealthy Affiliate? It seems to have lots of actual useful training, but also reeks a bit of MLM strategies.

MaisyPops · 06/11/2018 22:58

Spongebobette
Totes hun. Grin

One local hunbot is pushing MLM number 3 or 4 (I lose track). Raffles are a big deal at the moment and so are parties. ... except they arent parties. They are Facebook chats where the host gets treats based on people buying shit.

BSintolerant · 06/11/2018 23:02

Excellent post on the Timeless Vie Emergency Shelter FB page about Forever Fibbing's acts of so-called charity. Just when you think that MLM schemes can't sink any lower ...

SSDGM · 06/11/2018 23:30

Younique foundation president has put a casting call out for “models” with “edgy” hair to pose as sexual abuse survivors for a promotional film. W H A T T H E A C T U A L F U C K ?

entruprenot · 07/11/2018 09:44

expornbot skintcarerbot is embracing Muslim life. Seems to be building a friends list of Muslim sisters because she wanted ‘advice’ on her new lifestyle choice as her new underhanded recruitment tactic

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 07/11/2018 10:31

Salon's digging deep into the emotional bank to drum up new recruits. It's genuinely tragic that she lost her mum so young, but utterly disgusting how she's using that as a recruitment tool.
Still can't believe she's back in the Valentus saddle after she was allegedly directly responsible for so many women losing so much money.
