Why are MLMs/ Network Marketing 'businesses' a scam?

Spongebobette · 31/10/2018 20:40

This is the 44th thread in a long series about the dangers of network marketing/ MLMs such as Forever Living, Ariix, NuSkin, Arbonne, Younique, Valentus, TS Life, and MANY MANY more!
Posts here will give examples of the lies told by 'top bots' who portray luxury lifestyles in order to lure in new victims and of the other techniques and brainwashing used by MLMs
Over 90% of people who join an MLM end up LOSING money. Always bear that in mind when considering paying money to join!

FBOs were told that the claims about anti-gay funding was untrue and that there was to be a legal battle over the claims

Twentytwentyhindsight · 04/11/2018 21:20

FBOs were also told that the products would sell themselves, people would queue up to sign up and that they would be shitting gold bars within months...

ArbunneHun · 04/11/2018 21:32

Rex Maughan has donated to Republican causes for as far back as I can find the records. He also donated to a group called Focus on The Family, which was part of the campaigning force behind Proposition 102 which successfully banned same-sex marriage in Arizona. These facts are in the public domain.

Rednaxela · 04/11/2018 21:42

A friend of mine has been sucked into a mlm. It's hard to watch. She is vulnerable (diagnosed long term MH problems) and susceptible. I've been alongside her while she joined and eventually left a cultish type of church. Only to join another one a few months later. Now this mlm has become a second religion. She can't afford it. She is going into debt buying stock to give away to try and get people to buy from her.

I'm afraid to say anything. She's too vulnerable to cope with the bubble being burst.

Spongebobette · 04/11/2018 21:45

@Rednaxela I am so sorry to read that. It makes me furious that an MLM bot has exploited your friend’s vulnerability

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 04/11/2018 21:58

It's what they do, though, Sponge.

Rednaxela · 04/11/2018 22:04

Yeah it is ugly. Up til now I thought mlm was just a bit silly and dodgy. But my friend is seriously vulnerable. Is there any way to help or do I just stick around until she finds her own way out?

cozietoesie · 04/11/2018 22:25

You could link her in. I suspect that she may already too far 'in' to listen to you, though. )in which case, you may have to wait and pick up the pieces.

Spongebobette · 04/11/2018 22:36

@Rednaxela I don’t really know what to advise but you might find this link helpful

BangingOn · 05/11/2018 09:30

I V E T O L D Y O U A M I L L I O N T I M E S N O T T O E X A G G E R A T E

So Yawn reckons there are several 6 figure income earners in her team, hundreds earning £2000-£5000 per month and thousands earning £200-£1000 per month

Hmm

That must make it millions that are not making anything then

RelativePitch · 05/11/2018 14:57

@Rednaxela, I have a friend who sounds exactly like your friend. It's not oils is it?

ArbunneHun · 05/11/2018 16:58

Wig has been trying to encourage speculation about how high the price of bitcoin will rise before the end of the year for the past week, presumably to get more people investing in one of her scams. No luck: most people who have commented have implied that it will stay the same or lose value. She’s had to fall back on the “we make money whether the value rises or falls with our magical bitcoin Ponzi scheme BOT!”

Today she’s offering help to anyone looking for a broker to buy/sell bitcoin. Someone has commented that they’ve been unable to withdraw money from one of her recommended investments for the past 3 weeks and that it must be a scam.

Uh oh!

Dhalandchips · 05/11/2018 18:51

I sold Tupperware in the 90's while at Poly! I was weirdly successful and made quite a bit. But the Sunday evening meetings....cult-y most definitely.

Spongebobette · 05/11/2018 18:59

I had a friend who did Tupperware in the early 90s
No internet then..... her upline used to take her ‘happy tapping’ (knocking on doors randomly)

OP posts:
Spongebobette · 05/11/2018 19:02

Urgh what a bard faced liar Yawn is

She’s not on a 6 figure income and nor is anyone in her downline

Such blatant attempts at encouraging her minions not to give up- it takes time to build up a 5k income ( keep dangling that carrot and telling those poor women you have ‘big plans’ for them).

Shame on you.

FLPUK is promoting a ‘’Product & Customer Care” training day. It’s being held at Longbridge, so no venue costs. It’s being hosted by Uber & a couple of othe FBOs, so no costs there. So... why are tickets “available for purchase”? You have to PAY to go there (on a Tuesday during the day, so if you work, you’re sacrificing a day’s holiday or a day’s wages) to learn about the product you sell to make them a profit...?

Anyone know how much the tickets are?

Spongebobette · 05/11/2018 19:27

It’s extraordinary isn’t it, how Forever Living squeezes money out of people who have ALREADY paid to join.

Who are yawn and sleaze? Please tell me so I can lose myself in a huniverse of pain !

DownThePan · 05/11/2018 19:40

A lot of bots like Y A W N must have their company accounts online. Is it possible to see if they are actually earning a 6 figure sum to call them out on their lies?

Spongebobette · 05/11/2018 19:47

Go to Companies House

Search on either the business name of the name of the bot

Accounts are available

Some bots have taken out hefty director’s loans in the last year or so.....

Anyone know why Yawn is posting in spaced capital letters? Very odd!
