Why are MLMs/ Network Marketing 'businesses' a scam?

Spongebobette · 31/10/2018 20:40

This is the 44th thread in a long series about the dangers of network marketing/ MLMs such as Forever Living, Ariix, NuSkin, Arbonne, Younique, Valentus, TS Life, and MANY MANY more!
Posts here will give examples of the lies told by 'top bots' who portray luxury lifestyles in order to lure in new victims and of the other techniques and brainwashing used by MLMs
Over 90% of people who join an MLM end up LOSING money. Always bear that in mind when considering paying money to join!

Valentus reps are the biggest scum of all, pretending to do a good deed to help a poor woman out!! pathetic, if it was a good deed they would have just done it without the needs to publicise how amazing the Vfamily is. Wow, the CEO donated £300, he has raked in millions from poor reps being led a lie by the likes of Salon and her cronies. This just does not sit right with me at all. awful. The poor lady is a rep herself.

This new thing mania for headlines in capitals is ridiculous. How long did it take Yawn type this out? I couldn't even understand it at first. I read it as "How you do anything I show you do everything"

@Charlie103 I’m afraid a lot of MLMs have discovered ways to exploit charities and people’s charitable feelings. Forever Living bots are all on the bandwagon with a cunning plan, getting people to ‘sponsor’ (buy) product for ‘positivity packs’, saying they’ll donate any profit blah blah
But in reality they are benefitting from the CCs they get out of it all and they use it as a marketing tool by putting their cards in with the packs
Goodness knows if people with cancer really want this stuff in the first place.
I’m sure the charities would much prefer a cash donation and not to be linked with an MLM

DownThePan (or should that be D O W N T H E P A N Wink ) I spent a while trying to work out what it said too.

Maybe it's a way of disguising their grammar and spelling errors.

Maybe Roomie's entire book is written like that Grin

(BTW if you're reading this Roomie it's choose not chose )

There’s a shocking article in The Guardian today about slimming pills. Much of what it says applies to all the ‘slimming’ crap offered by Valentus, Vida etc etc etc. Most of this stuff contains stimulants and/or laxatives, it’s sold willy-nilly, and we know that there’s stuff coming in that unlicensed and unregulated. Stop peddling dangerous product and trading on women’s insecurities to make a profit!

Both Valentus Slimroast and Revital -u contain Octodrine and I’ve attached a description of the side effects.

If you cast your mind back to last September you will remember I got an abnormal liver function test while I was doing my Valentus “experiment” where I lost no weight at all and ended up throwing away cups of bitter coffee full of white granules or mixing the vile stuff with sachets of mint options just to get it down.

I’m going to go back to my GP to ask for a follow up test to check it definitely was the consumption of the magic coffee that resulted in the abnormal results and not my Sauv Blanc/ Tanqueray habit that caused it.

I'm guessing the spaces are some way to flout some rule or other or make things unsearchable

spanfan · 03/11/2018 19:17

Valentus had some kind of conference today. Some of the live videos are painful to watch.

No views of seating apart from one before it started. They'll be talking it up (salon already has) but it looks dreadful. 😂😂😂

8misskitty8 · 03/11/2018 19:52

foreverbots were in Glasgow for ‘success day’. How much do you have to sell to be made a level1, 2 etc ? There didn’t seem to be very many names on the list.

@downthepan, well said. It's utter Botshite! In keeping with the lavatorial parlance, I sit down when I pee. I don't sit down when I'm walking, doing handstands, or hopping on one leg. So much for
Y A W N's words of wisdom. Lanzabot repeats the same mantra too. Grin

Tizzlebizzle · 03/11/2018 21:09

The thing with Yawn is that her "aspirational" lifestyle is far from one. My life is immeasurably more interesting yet I don't plaster it all over FB. She never goes anywhere, her friends are FL bots only, her job is Groundhog Day, she can't afford holidays as her bonus cheques have been spent on the house and expensive car leases. It certainly doesn't promote a lifestyle I aspire to so I'm amazed others fall for it.

Spongebobette · 03/11/2018 21:35

Oh I couldn’t agree more @Tizzlebizzle!!

Her whole life is Groundhog Day, i bet if you went back one month/ six months/ a year/ two years you’d see exactly the same boring shit

Reading Roomie's most recent post it implies that there's bitching and backstabbing within the FL ranks (she says that she's heard that people think she's being disloyal to her FL business) - I thought they prided themselves on the fact that they had each others backs, that they were there to support each other to the end??

So come on, which is it?

JasperRising · 04/11/2018 00:35

To be honest I feel a lot of sympathy for Roomie. Her book may not win any literary prizes but it has clearly been therapeutic for her. I just wish she had found another source of belonging/confidence/self-esteem/whatever than an MLM, god knows it sounds like she deserves a break.

Electrascoffee · 04/11/2018 06:35

Stella & Dot is MLM too isn't it? 🙄

A fb friend has become involved. Suddenly I'm seeing all these posts 'Ask me what I do' always a sign of MLM!!

BangingOn · 04/11/2018 07:58

Jasper I feel the same over Roomie, poor lady has obviously been through a lot, I just hope FL doesn’t do more damage.

BangingOn · 04/11/2018 08:01

Also, is Roomie renovating her house?

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 04/11/2018 08:49

I know what you're saying about Roomie however I cannot get past the fact that she recruited someone with terminal cancer, a man who wanted to provide for his family and thought FL could do that. She also recruited his wife.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 04/11/2018 08:55

re: thinking of the wording of my post, the man's cancer is incurable and will shorten his life which I think is maybe different to terminal. Just wanted to clarify that.

Paddy1234 · 04/11/2018 09:56

I know Roomie by proxy
I am sure she has been through a lot in her life however it does concern me that the eldest boy never goes home when on leave from army and over the last few years has took sanctuary in another family. He is 18.
Just saying don't believe all you read

Mountainsided · 04/11/2018 10:05

Is utility warehouse and MLM as well? Neighbour has dropped round a laminated leaflet which they said they will return for. Clever as they have to knock/you open the door to return it!

Spongebobette · 04/11/2018 10:17

Oh yes @mountainsided!

Collecting it will give the bot an opportunity to discuss the ‘opportunity’ with you

Best of luck!

OP posts:
CurlsandCurves · 04/11/2018 10:36

@mountainsided I had one last week!

I left it outside my front door with a stone on it to hold it down for the bot to collect.
It disappeared, thankfully.
