Why are MLMs/ Network Marketing 'businesses' a scam?

Spongebobette · 31/10/2018 20:40

This is the 44th thread in a long series about the dangers of network marketing/ MLMs such as Forever Living, Ariix, NuSkin, Arbonne, Younique, Valentus, TS Life, and MANY MANY more!
Posts here will give examples of the lies told by 'top bots' who portray luxury lifestyles in order to lure in new victims and of the other techniques and brainwashing used by MLMs
Over 90% of people who join an MLM end up LOSING money. Always bear that in mind when considering paying money to join!

Yawn had published a message from one of her lowly team bots saying how wonderful her training was and that it has given her hope for week 1. Feel so sorry for her - we all know there is no hope and no way she can replicate yawn as the pyramid is imploding but she will blame herself no doubt

Teddy1970 · 02/11/2018 09:25

I wonder if Yawn is on track for a bonus cheque or is she getting a bit stressed because she won't have a cheque to show off to all her minions?

MrDonut · 02/11/2018 09:30

Sorry to barge in. Is Doterra an MLM?

I recently met someone who sells this and was suspicious.

user1484830599 · 02/11/2018 09:36

Yes doterra is an MLM. I couldn't get over their prices, but my friend raves about their oils.

BangingOn · 02/11/2018 09:37

Yawn certainly has stepped up the activity on her business page recently.

MrDonut · 02/11/2018 09:38

Thanks User!!

She seems to be doing ok and recently organized an essential oil retreat. However, after another friend got sucked into Younique, I find it hard to believe any of these sellers are really making any money.

I have a friend who works for Avon, and she doesn't spam me or try to sell me stuff, she once dropped off a catalogue, I didn't order anything and that was it! She has her own area and long-standing clients, and it doesn't seem the same as some of the MLM you hear about..

JasperRising · 02/11/2018 10:18

Orchid that was my experience of Avon too but I'm sure I've read on here that they are starting to get a bit MLM-esque. Maybe I'm thinking of usborne!

The other advantage of Avon is that the products are actually reasonably priced!

millkcowmama · 02/11/2018 10:56

Was interested if Avon seen in that the same way as these other companies as I used to do it in my teens but never forced it on friends and family just did my territory. And I have always wondered if it’s seen in the same way because I think it probably technically is a mlm but it doesn’t act like one so much iyswim I was always aware I was never going to earn thousands from it

Spongebobette · 02/11/2018 11:09

Does Avon reward you for recruiting to your ‘team’
That’s an MLM feature

Are scents now retailing eau du desperation?

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 02/11/2018 11:29

I think FL bots have until the end of December to qualify for Chairman's Bonus. If she's not even made level 1 yet then Yawn is going to be going all out to get those CC's.

Nicknacky · 02/11/2018 11:45

So what is the story with Aiirix travel thing that was getting pushed like mad from bots on my fb a few months ago and has now went very quiet?

And without being obvious, how can I find yawn? I found BBL.

millkcowmama · 02/11/2018 12:08

You could be a sales leader and have a team but this was never pushed in the same way I’ve seen with people on your unquie or forever living

SSDGM · 02/11/2018 12:28

Someone has commented on BBL’s status about going to Barcelona next week calling her an attention seeker for claiming she had sepsis.
It’s been there 18 hours. Oops!

Haworthia · 02/11/2018 13:27

I hate it when Instagram accounts I’m following suddenly go all MLM. I was following a low carb recipe account for a bit, and she mentioned using essential oils occasionally but I thought nothing of it. She was American so I’d never heard of the particular brand anyway.

And then before I knew it, she was attending a conference for said brand, and she posted a video of the boss man (who was portrayed as some sort of demigod) flying into the arena on wires like David Copperfield in the 90s. All that for essential bloody oils Grin

There’s also an Australian mum who I might unfollow because she’s just trying to flog people Rodan+Fields skincare. Shame, because I enjoyed her account before she started the #bossbabe #girlceo #womeninbusiness shit.

This is the organisation behind Inteletravel the MLM travel rep thing. Not once are holidays mentioned or commission off the sale of holidays. It is purely about getting commission off people signing up for £142 and then paying a monthly subscription of £32. You don't even have to sell a holiday to make money. There is virtually no product. Surely that can't be legal?

Popcorninapot · 02/11/2018 16:02

This very enlightening. I knew about Younique, Arbonne, FL but keep finding more...
Are stella and dot and neals yard MLMs too?

Spongebobette · 02/11/2018 16:39

Yup!

I really like Neal’s Yard products but why would I buy from a rep when Waitrose have 1/3 off several times a year?
Same goes for Usborne Books

Shame on you, Sponge. Not wanting to put your cash into someone else's pocket - for nothing.😀

Shame on you, Sponge. Not wanting to put your cash into someone else's pocket - for nothing.(Other than giving them a false impression of how it really is.)

Spongebobette · 02/11/2018 17:59

I know. I must be one of those negheads or neg ferrets that uplines warn their minions about.
