Why are MLMs/ Network Marketing 'businesses' a scam?

Spongebobette · 31/10/2018 20:40

This is the 44th thread in a long series about the dangers of network marketing/ MLMs such as Forever Living, Ariix, NuSkin, Arbonne, Younique, Valentus, TS Life, and MANY MANY more!
Posts here will give examples of the lies told by 'top bots' who portray luxury lifestyles in order to lure in new victims and of the other techniques and brainwashing used by MLMs
Over 90% of people who join an MLM end up LOSING money. Always bear that in mind when considering paying money to join!

@dickiedavisthunderthighs Just seen it. Wow. Mind blown! Her poor family.

Twentytwentyhindsight · 19/11/2018 14:45

Just read Roomie's aunt's post.
It does not appear to have been written with any venom, but as a genuine attempt to set the record straight.
If it is true, Roomie does not come out of this well at all.
This, rather than a ranty poor review on Amazon (since removed), may explain the FB disappearance...

Sunshineandshowers81 · 19/11/2018 14:46

Gosh sounds like roomie has embellished the truth somewhat to sell her bookm if what the aunt says is true then she really is a very low person. Tbh her attempts to constantly sabotage yawn on the trip (although funny) do not put her in the best light.

Paddy1234 · 19/11/2018 14:51

Any ideas how I can access the Aunts reply?

Paddy1234 · 19/11/2018 15:02

Accessed it

Both sides are probably correct and in reading the book actually she never vilifies her mother, saying simply that she was not around which is actually confirmed by the sister stating that they may been birthday cards not received.
Sorry excuse me - if that was my daughter and I lived close enough by I would ensure that I hand delivered them.

There may be inaccuracies. It may not be as brilliantly written as some of you would like but that naivety at least points to that she has written it herself.

Paddy1234 · 19/11/2018 15:14

I am personally a little gob smacked by you all being so quick to judge

I will remain neutral however

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 19/11/2018 15:36

Where has the Aunt posted her response?

Paddy1234 · 19/11/2018 15:37

On Roomies author fb page.

JasperRising · 19/11/2018 15:50

The simple fact is that no autobiography ever presents an objective historic 'truth'. Authors always have to select what to omit and what to include, what to detail and what to skim over. And even if they don't consciously admit they will have a goal in writing their autobiography for public consumption that affects the choices they make. It is also a known phenomenon that participants in the same events will come away with different takes on that event and remember different aspects more than others - hence scenarios where one person dwells on a slight or embarrassment that the other person has forgotten.

From what I have gathered from comments here and in Facebook, roomie is both vulnerable and has been involved in recruiting other vulnerable people into an MLM because MLMs target the vulnerable and the people who set them up are despicable for setting up a business that allows them to profit off the vulnerable.

On another note, Uber has been posting frequently recently about the impact of child illness and childcare problems in her ability to do work. I thought MLMs meant you didn't need childcare and could always stop work at the drop of a hat to care for sick children...

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 19/11/2018 15:53

Thank you Paddy, I've found it

Wow! Is this the case of a bot that's twisted the truth to suit them? Surely not.

It sounds like the Aunt is defending those in the family who are no longer here to defend themselves.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 19/11/2018 16:00

As Paddy says, there will be Roomie's truth, the family's truth and the the actual truth.
I did think that publishers had the responsibility of fact-checking but maybe I'm wrong.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 19/11/2018 16:01

Sorry, as Jasper says, not Paddy. Apologies.

cozietoesie · 19/11/2018 16:07

.... It sounds like the Aunt is defending those in the family who are no longer here to defend themselves.....

How come?

Sunshineandshowers81 · 19/11/2018 16:08

Homeschool has had her baby, looks super cute. Her husband has posted a supremely unflattering picture of her sleeping, poor lady, she has juat given both!

Sunshineandshowers81 · 19/11/2018 16:08

*just given birth!

JasperRising · 19/11/2018 16:26

Self publishing dickie ! Authors & co may guide, advise on marketing, strategy, arrange photo shoots etc but they are not publishers in the sense of penguin, hodder, Macmillan etc etc

9dartfinish2nd · 19/11/2018 16:28

Most aggravating post over the weekend goes to the Nu Skin bot who love bombed one of her minions for getting back to her business 48 hours after giving birth.

.....give me strength!!

cozietoesie · 19/11/2018 21:51

Any posts commenting on the .........fairly brutal crypto sell-off?

Twentytwentyhindsight · 19/11/2018 22:47

But but but Cozie, Wig was telling us on Saturday that that was the time to jump into Bitcoin, as it was about to rise.

She is always right about those things, so I refuse to believe the clearly fake news peddled by the media that the arse has fallen further out of crypto today...

cozietoesie · 19/11/2018 23:39

Well in one sense right. The price has 'risen' to the low 4,9s.😀

cozietoesie · 19/11/2018 23:58

I spoke too soon.

ArbunneHun · 20/11/2018 06:08

Huns - don’t forget that Wig’s magic bots make her money whether the price of Bitcoin goes up or down! Because that’s how economics works in crypto-ponzi-land!

What a bunch of closed-minded fools you all are!

fitgirl26 · 20/11/2018 08:05

So that amazing humanitarian duo Wig'n'Sleaze helped a homeless couple with a dog by "buying" them a caravan and gave them some Bitcoin to live off (as you do when you are earning multiple six figure incomes). A mythical woman then phoned them and told them she wasn't going to exchange their Bitcoin for cash as she has used the money for alcohol and they couldn't pay their rent. Hands up who is filing this under "things that never happened"?

leasedaudi · 20/11/2018 08:54

Yawn is on the hunt for yet another dog :(

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 20/11/2018 09:25

There's obviously some void in her life that she's still trying to fill.
