Why are MLMs/ Network Marketing 'businesses' a scam?

Spongebobette · 31/10/2018 20:40

This is the 44th thread in a long series about the dangers of network marketing/ MLMs such as Forever Living, Ariix, NuSkin, Arbonne, Younique, Valentus, TS Life, and MANY MANY more!
Posts here will give examples of the lies told by 'top bots' who portray luxury lifestyles in order to lure in new victims and of the other techniques and brainwashing used by MLMs
Over 90% of people who join an MLM end up LOSING money. Always bear that in mind when considering paying money to join!

fitgirl26 begs the question as to why they didn't withdraw btc in sterling and give it to them, as apparently it's just SO easy to do.

SSDGM · 20/11/2018 11:38

Exactly my thought! Its not quite as simple as cashing in a few leftover Euros at the end of a holiday. She hasn’t got a clue.

Twentytwentyhindsight · 20/11/2018 11:42

Apparently, the protocol for exchanging bitcoin for sterling involves giving it to an unknown stunningly beautiful lady and hoping she doesn't spend it in the pub Hmm

Wow.

Fascinating

Great find SnoogyWoo

Lularoe would be a much higher profile casualty than Jamberry.

A mass exodus appears to be happening and looks like the beginning of the end for them.

Class action lawsuits all over the place, laying off workers in distribution centres.

A lot of consultants are going to be royally screwed over when this comes crashing down.

Paddy1234 · 20/11/2018 16:38

Wow! Well found

Paddy1234 · 20/11/2018 16:42

OMG how I have never seen this company - what horrible clothes

Spongebobette · 20/11/2018 17:03

The flashy woman at the top of LulaRoe is every MLM top bot ever, rolled into one and wrapped in the Law of Attraction

ArbunneHun · 20/11/2018 17:17

Also, Wig ‘n’ Sleaze, why not donate some money to a homeless charity which has the infrastructure & trained professionals to help make a real difference? You haven’t got a clue what you’re doing and are clearly doing more harm than good.

Twentytwentyhindsight · 20/11/2018 17:51

@ArbunneHun - Not sure if homelessness charities can take imaginary Bitcoin.

BSintolerant · 20/11/2018 17:59

That LuLaRoe article is fascinating. It shows how many bots are sucked into the fallacy of sunk costs. The owner begs them to keep on buying, makes false promises of new, exciting inventory and the minions carry on spending. At what point do people wise up to the fact that top bots only encourage people not to quit in order to fund their greedy lifestyles?

Those of you gutsy bots who have escaped from MLM schemes - what was the final straw for you?

Twentytwentyhindsight · 20/11/2018 18:06

The LuLaRoe fiasco has been unfolding for some months now, a lot of people are going to end up badly burnt.

Twentytwentyhindsight · 20/11/2018 18:09

BB's comment about the sunk costs fallacy, one saving grace in the UK at least is that there is a £200 limit on the initial 'business in a box'.

For those who started off ploughing thousands in, and have since been exhorted to throw good money after bad, it is even harder to face the fact that it is time to cut your losses...

Twentytwentyhindsight · 20/11/2018 18:10

*BS, not BB

cozietoesie · 20/11/2018 18:11

.... "It's actually been pretty awesome," said Jamie Harrington, a high-ranking LuLaRoe consultant with the title of "mentor." "We've sold a lot of clothes. We've done everything we've set out to do."
Thousands of others reached deep, sometimes into debt, in hopes of achieving the same rewards. These people directly fund the company. They include stay-at-home moms, single women, and people with limited mobility who were attracted to the idea of running a business out of their homes.
Now, the company is facing mounting problems, and there are thousands of consultants suffering.....

BangingOn · 20/11/2018 18:12

LuLaRoe Fail on Facebook is fascinating and horrifying in equal measures, worth following.

ArbunneHun · 20/11/2018 20:06

And this is HILARIOUS: cheezburger.com/5283845/20-lularoe-legging-fails-that-are-almost-too-bad-to-believe

BSintolerant · 20/11/2018 20:11

I wonder how many of the top bots have jumped from LuLaRoe into the arms of another MLM?

If that's the case, does anyone know if there's a particular scheme to which they've defected?

BSintolerant · 20/11/2018 20:17

Arbunne! those are hilarious. What a place to hide a unicorn ..,Grin

I don't think I'll be able to look at the leaning tower of Pisa in quite the same way again. My friend is from Pisa. I hope his tower doesn't lean like that.

CurlsandCurves · 20/11/2018 20:18

Is it annoying anyone else that the Martin Lewis Money Show has MLMS plastered all over the walls?

Barely related to this thread, sorry.

Twentytwentyhindsight · 20/11/2018 20:24

@CurlsandCurves - I was thinking exactly the same thing!

spanfan · 20/11/2018 20:34

I need to talk about PhD bot.

She's my "favourite" to stalk as she confuses me so much. She's a clever bot, and has used her intelligence to get far. I highly suspect that she is one of the more dangerous bots as she knows what to do to succeed.

But then she starts going on about empowering women and posts a picture of herself in a bikini. And she posts such vacuous drivel, to accompany her business shots that I get even more confused.

What's her game? Her female academy or whatever she calls it is obviously her new thing but shes still a forever shite bot.

I'm beginning to despise her. Shes the worst kind of bot. And I shouldn't watch her but I'm drawn to it. 😂😂😂

Can I heard her to the "most want to fail bot" please.

X

Interesting to look at the likes from Uber's different profile pictures.
On 2016 at the height of popularity she was garnering 1k likes for a profile picture.
She is now at about 100 or so (providing there is picture of the little one in it)

Also you rarely see Uber and Castle engage - is there a bit of competing was there - not that it matters as they are both going down
