How much would you say you spend per year on holidays

Everything all in, spending money etc? Also do you plan and save ahead mnoey wise for them.

I wish we were.

Although even dh was shocked last SUnday. He won't be shrugging off weather forecasts so lightly again....

Nothing really, except money spent on petrol getting there and ice creams etc. We can't afford to pay for holidays but are lucky in that we have free access to two holiday homes and go to both at least once a year each.

Even the occasional visit to Australia so dh can see home and family is usually bought with air miles and donations from FIL.

In fact, the only holidays we have paid for in the last 3 years were a weekend for 2 in Rome to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and a weekend in Paris for my 40th. I am not sure what either cost, but obviously they were exceptional occasions.

I drove past a sign outside a B&B in Lyndhurst (New Forest) this week. It read:

"Don't camp - it's wet and it's silly!"

I honestly, honestly haven't a clue, not agreat deal though more than I would want to actually add up!
Fortunately my parenst pay for us all to go to a Big cottage in Devon once a year and then after that its camping and festivals for us. Haven't been abroad for 10 years but I love this country so don't feel much like I'm missing out

Before we had kids, when we used to go abroad, I used to love the way the company you went with, holiday brochure was wating on the mat in your mail when you arrived back . Suppose it made me plan better, mind you before kids and school holidays, getting away was cheaper, easier (book and go the same week) and not at the "bake me alive" summer temps. You will soon be able to book 2 years in advance the way companies are going. Mind you, you may have to miss a year if all your passports expire at the same time, cost of renewing them

we always spend more than we think we're going to...This year dh and I have have just had 3 days in dublin which probably ended up costing us the equivalent of a week abroad!

We are going to cornwall (£100 petrol) 2 nights camping and food (£100), 3 days at friends (? - lots of wine!!) and then 4 days at a festival (£300 tickets, probably £300 in food/drink/shitey stuff to keep kids amused!)

We also do several weekend camping trips.

Probably about a grand.

Next year we are saving up cos ds is desperate to go to 'Rome and Italy'! We have no idea how much it's going to cost. how long is a piece of string...

I just got some days out/theme parks tickets with my tesco deals for the summer. That certainly helps with spending money in this country. Now if I could just sort the weather

Was nosing through brochures for next year. (I know , marketing mans dream me aka MUG). Was saying to DH that looks good for £25 per night etc (£1400 approx for 4) had a look on PC £3300 I must be taking an invisible family with me . Camping looking better by the day.

I don't know. Less than 3% of our gross household income. This year...

This year we are having two holidays. Just got back from a short break yesterday. This was 3 nights in the Windsor area. It cost £284.50 for 3 nights hotel inc breakfast, two day passes to legoland and tickets to Windsor castle for the four of us. It probably cost the same again in food for the four days. But we didn't spend much else. So probably about £500 on that one.

Then in August we are going to France for two weeks. We have got a villa in the Carmargue for £900 for the two weeks, flights for about £300. We still have to hire a car which I reckon will be another £300 - I think to fit the four of us plus luggage we will need focus size. I am also thinking of booking a night at a hotel near the airport before we leave. That will be about £60. Maybe £150 for hotel and parking. Then we will probably spend about £1200 while we are there. So that is heading towards 3K I think.

So answer is £3.5K

Last year we did a short break in Edinburgh in May, and two weeks in Normandy/Brittany in August (but ferry and car). And I think we probably spent slightly less - more like 3K.

£500 - £1000. £16 travelodges where possible for UK holidays.

This year we will have had a week in Alsace in February, a week's ski-ing in Val d'Isère at Easter, a long weekend in Honfleur, a long weekend in Amsterdam, a long weekend in Milan, two weeks summer holiday in Greece plus several trips to the UK (where we stay with family). And more to come, not all planned yet.

We'll probably go away seven or eight times this year, but, with the exception of my skiing and our summer holiday (because we're tied to school hols this year is 3 times what we are used to paying), every other trip is cheap as chips - sharing cottage with friends, Sun £9.50 breaks, house-sitting/swapping for friends, very cheap flights to visit friends or family abroad, borrowing parents' caravan. As we usually self-cater we don't spend a great deal more on food than we would at home, so our biggest expense is travel/petrol.

I really am LOL at this thread.

DH and I were discussing this very topic earlier today and he thinks we're extravagant on our £1000/year budget.

We are trying a Sun £9.50 holiday this year but got a date in October so the weather will probably be wet.

We're going to Norfolk with a sundeal in October.

If it rains, it rains. Just have to be prepared, lol. It might well rain throughout August, who knows??

We go away a lot- maybe 8 times a year- but camping and often for weekends. All in (and we make one a big blow out in the summer, one a minor blow out at whitsun and the rest cheapies) about £ 1000 or so, which makes £200 a head so OK I reckon

Oh and I do paln ahead as I have a student loand and so tend to cover such things whilst DH pays for food / erent etc, therefore I pay them all when I get my money so I know where I am.

we were spending 6800 on a 3 week holiday in a loVELYhouse on north Cornwall coast but alomg with having taken on the worlds most humoungous mortgage it kind of did not rest easy with me

we have cancelled 1 week - well hopefully

inxs of 10k is verging on indecent to me - would rather be at home with the kids and not have that dosh to waste

We have a week's self-catering in the UK, this costs £400-600 for the 5 of us in summer school holidays. Spending money probably £400, including food. We save for this monthly, starting the next pay-day after we get back from our summer holiday.

Then, we usually have a long weekend or two away during the year courtesy of Travelodge special deals - the first year it was only £5 per room per night, last October half-term it was £10, so brilliant value because we need 2 rooms.

And sometimes a few odd nights camping, about £15 a night.

This year we're being quite decadent.

Our main one week holiday with the kids costs £400ish half board, we're taking around £800 but hope to spend a fair bit less.

We've also been camping, £100 for three nights, and spent around £150.

Dh and I are going to glastonbury, £300 for tickets, and are taking around £200 - £300
