Biglips - refer to my post of 00.31.59 this morning (wtf was I doing up at that time?!)

Moomin · 13/04/2007 09:24

Mellowma wots' LBA?

mamatres · 13/04/2007 09:38

twirly, i have sent one letter asking for x amount to each bank. i used the templates on moneysavingexpert. whats an LBA?

giddyfeet · 13/04/2007 09:50

Just been offered 730 by Barclays after asked for 980. Decided to accept in the end even though I didn't think I would because I couldnt be bothered to wait the court case thing out. I have another 3 institutions to apply to now!

WEll done giddyfeet - agree that's a decent enough offer not to delay things with court. congrats!

TwirlyN · 13/04/2007 10:08

LBA Letter before action. Go get em girl.

TwirlyN · 13/04/2007 10:13

mamatres, mellowma is obviously a nice patient lady. I gave the bank 7 days to respond to my second letter. Only because i copied mine from moveysaving and The banks annoy the hell outta me. In my mind they are go getters and take when they want. So am I. Although i have learned you do also need to be a little patient at times.

Biglips · 13/04/2007 10:22

I sent my LBA to nationwide two weeks ago today, heard nothing, will take it to the next step on Monday if i don't hear by then.

their last letter was totally incredulous that i had the cheek to ask for it back, something along the lines of we are very sorry that you are disappointed but we will not be refunding you blah, blah, blah. That day i sent the LBA . We also started this process in january.

Moomin · 13/04/2007 12:25

another good way of dealing with this is just to read the bank's letters briefly just to get the gist of them and ignore anything they say and the way they say it (surprised/officious/matter-of-fact/mock sympathetic etc) about the claim.

... which is evidently the way they view the letters we write to them, so we're quits!

It will be very interesting to see how that law student gets on in court today (see Mellowma's link earlier today). He was offered all of the money he was claiming and then they even offered him well over what he wanted but he still refused! This is how desperate the banks are that these cases don't go to court. I just hope the judge doesn't decide that it will be too mucb of a can of worms to rule in his favour and he loses - he will lose his job and become bankrupt if that happens.

giddyfeet · 13/04/2007 12:43

Thanks guys, cant wait until it shows up in my account. Interesting that they didnt threaten to close my accounts or silence me.

Yeah it will be interesting to see the outcome of this case with the student lawyer...

i have got almost 6 years of charges statements back (they need to send me the first 6 months still) from lloyds. havent added it all up yet, but looks like its going to be over £1000. there is one charge on there of £110 for returning direct debit, jeez. that cant be right can it? ah well, will add it all up, and do a spread sheet. this will keep me busy.

stil lwaitying for the rest of statements from abbey.

Twinmummyx2 · 14/04/2007 08:32

Right..i think i am gonna put a claim in for mine....i'm with natwest...are they really arsey does anyone know???

Ohhhhh i am scared....

Moomin · 14/04/2007 08:38

Don't be scared!! JUst look at how many posters on here have got/are getting their money back. The banks are relying on the fact that people have always been intimidated by the banks and that has saved them a lot of hassle and made them a big fat lot of OUR money. If you go to mse.com you'll be able to look at the 'success stories' link and see how many people have got their money back from Natwest, which will hopefully spur you on.

Twinmummyx2 · 14/04/2007 08:58

Ok..it dosen't matter that is it an offshore account...?

Moomin · 14/04/2007 09:01

sorry - don't know about that. If you register with mse you could ask someone more knowledgeable - or wait to see if anyone here knows?

Twinmummyx2 · 14/04/2007 09:05

I live in the Channel Islands you see...so it is an offshore account isn't it?..i think...

god am showing how dozey i am now...lol

Twinmummyx2 · 14/04/2007 09:08

Great start..dunno what kind of account i have....lol

All i know is they take away too much of my money...LOL

Twinmummyx2 · 14/04/2007 09:14
