As the last thread is almost full, here is a nice fresh clean one.

In a nutshell, matched betting is a clever way of making ££££ from the bookies without ever having to gamble.

@Fluffy I went through tcb to Coral. I got my free bets because I didn't realise you couldnt get them through tcb until I just read your comment. I rang Coral and asked why I didn't have the free bets and she said that I should have been given them and manually credited them for me.
Give them a ring and play dumb.

louisejxxx · 02/05/2017 19:23

My funds cleared from betfair today so I've done placed my qualifying bet with William hill now. I went through quidco to signup - does this mean I might not get my free £30 bet? 😓

SierraJensen · 02/05/2017 19:24

Yeah same happened to me re: coral. Used live chat, they sorted it out and I got my free bets. Clearly coral and cash back sites don't mix!

SierraJensen · 02/05/2017 19:25

Louise, I went through quidco for William Hill too and got my free bets, no problem!

louisejxxx · 02/05/2017 19:29

Did they appear straight away Sierra or did you have to wait until the bet had been settled? Mine haven't come through yet and I can't find the terms and conditions now!

louisejxxx · 02/05/2017 19:49

Panic over! Got the free bets now!

SierraJensen · 02/05/2017 20:26

Glad they arrived! I think mine were in straight away.

HollySykes · 02/05/2017 20:46

I had to go through live chat to get all three of my free bets today. Makes me nervous when they're not credited automatically as I don't want to be noticed. I've done my first mug bet this evening.

louisejxxx · 02/05/2017 20:50

I'm waiting to use my free bets as there isn't much football on this week until towards the weekend.

bonfireheart · 02/05/2017 21:09

When you do a mug bet:

  • do you just do a back bet with no matched lay bet?
  • how do you ensure you don't lose money?
  • what's your mug bet to match bet ratio?
Thank you.
fairgame84 · 02/05/2017 21:12

I'm on a bit of a go slow at the moment due to lack of funds in betfair.
I'm really disappointed as I was ready to go all guns blazing but I could only put £50 in Betfair so I'm going to have to take it slow and steady.

fairgame84 · 02/05/2017 21:13

No you need to lay your mug bets. You will lose a small amount like on your QB. Another poster said they mug bet every 2-3 bets.

HeyRoly · 02/05/2017 21:15

You always do a lay bet when making "mug" bets, bonfire, otherwise that's just gambling. And, like you say, it's important to keep your losses as small as possible.

Mug bets are just bets made with your own money (as opposed to just taking free bets all the time) in order to not flag yourself up as a matched bettor Smile

I made a few mug bets with the big guys over the weekend (Betfred, Coral, Paddy Power). I'm not sure how regularly I'll do them.

bonfireheart · 02/05/2017 21:19

Thank you heyroly you've succinctly managed to explain something that had been confusing me for days! All makes sense now thank you.
Waiting for the Real Madrid game to finish to see how my first free matched bet goes :)

Whisky2014 · 02/05/2017 21:26

Mrswombat I plan on doing real accas, no lay...eek! Well, I have put one on tonight, if it all goes to pot at the end of it I will start to lay them in future :D The one I did tonight was just from odds monkey acca matcher thing but I intend to do the next one from What acca? do you mean the bookies know lots of people follow this guy and it doesn't red flag to them Id be putting on the same bets as what he has? Or do they just think it's a popular one?

bonfireheart · 02/05/2017 21:27

How much float did everyone start with? I deposited £50 in betfair and have to wait for each bet/match to be played so I can then use hose winnings for next bet. So it'll be slow going but I wanted a small float until I understood what I was doing.
Is everyone signed up to PA or OM? I've got the PA free trial but OM won't let me register on my phone. However savethestudent seems to have odds checker and calculator on its site for free along with a list of offers- has anyone tried their site?

longtermsinglemummy · 02/05/2017 21:30

Whisky Isn't that gambling though? If we lay the bet it negates the gambling?

Whisky2014 · 02/05/2017 21:33

Yes, it's gambling although it does look like the odds are still in your favour. So even if I lose a couple, I will still win in the long run. As I said, if I lose this first one I may just lay them until I am enjoying expert. On the match betting team profit FB group it seems the guys doing the accas are making ££££ and that's what I want!

bonfireheart · 02/05/2017 21:41

But how much are they betting to make ££££? One of the FB guys was saying he makes £1k a month but he bets with £3k!

louisejxxx · 02/05/2017 21:47

I've been researching lay sequential lock ins for accas (sounds more fancy than it is!) but a guy on the OM forum told me if I'm only just starting to steer clear for a while until I'm established with it all as there's plenty I can do in theory to make money for a while without needing to do them...then when things start to dry up, switch to accas.

Whisky2014 · 02/05/2017 21:48

No idea what they bet but I assume it's alot.

Hmm maybe I am being silly. I've already put on on though so what should I do? Lay against them all now?

bonfireheart · 02/05/2017 21:50

Just won £12.64 on first free bet! Dunno I was so nervous.
Now need to try a second offer.

bonfireheart · 02/05/2017 22:00

Does anyone know what this means? It's my qualifying bet and the match hasn't happened yet so why is it telling me to cash out?

Matched betting continued...free money for all!
Whisky2014 · 02/05/2017 22:05

It's an option not a necessity. Just ignore!

titchy · 02/05/2017 22:06

bonfire it's giving you the option to effectively cancel your lay if you get nervous and that's what it will cost. (I think...)
