Urrgg its crap like that that sends me batshit about those mlm's, "ooohhh I've been poisening giving my dog this crap and now its walking again", "great love, fabulous, how do you know that the crap your giving it is safe to use on animals???"
" ohhh it is all natural so that's why,"
" uh huh, and this company doesn't test on animals but endorses the use of their products on animals, so effectively you are testing your products on animals",
lets have a round of applause!!!

acatcalledjohn · 13/11/2016 12:23

Rodan & Fields responsible for 97% growth of the premium skincare industry?

That's why no one has heard of the fuckers. Hmm

The mascara looks awful by the way. Worse than Younique's spider leg crap, and that's saying something.

cozietoesie · 13/11/2016 12:41

The basic knack is often 'how you define your terms'. Then, you just ask for details. You know - actual data. Grin

97% is a good figure to lay down, actually. It sounds market dominating but yet allows that 3% for verisimilitude. 'sounds' is the critical word there. Wink

Twunk · 13/11/2016 13:20

There's a lot of things that are natural that I wouldn't want to give to my dog. Onions, for example.

And there's a lot I wouldn't give to anyone: poisonous fungi, salmonella, listeria, foxgloves, deadly nightshade, snake venom....

BSintolerant · 13/11/2016 13:24

Twunk, I can't believe you haven't included Yazoo and chickpeas. Hmm

mrswhiplington · 13/11/2016 13:58

I posted a few days ago about a close relative flogging Doterra Oils and not being able to pay her mortgage. My DH saw her a few days ago and she has told him she has been given the chance to sell some "herbal tea bags". At the time I just rolled my eyes when he told me about this, but now I have just read the advert a few pages back and my heart sank. I can't believe she might get herself mixed up with this as well! Just typing this makes me feel so sad, we don't know what to do anymore.Sad Just praying she doesn't go along with it.

cozietoesie · 13/11/2016 14:43

I'm sorry about your relative but you need to ready yourself.

Spongebobette · 13/11/2016 14:48

That's very sad and makes me so cross that her desperation to earn money has led unscrupulous people in MLMs to exploit her

Whenever I see bots showing off their new Merc or the stuff they have bought for their new house it makes me think of where the funds have come from. People who have been sold a lie andhave invested 200 quid which has gone straight up the pyramid
Now they are doomed to a life of knocking on doors/ contacting people on social media, spending money setting up tables in local bring and buy sales, inviting people to 'parties' and providing drink and food, spending money they don't have on 'success days' etc etc etc

And when they fail, they'll be made to feel that it's their fault

Meanwhile the top bots continue to recruit ( I note that they are busy in new, unexploited markets such as Ireland, Canada, New Zealand) and are absolutely shameless

Babblehag · 13/11/2016 14:54

Sorry about your relative, hopefully she'll see sense soon.

mrswhiplington · 13/11/2016 15:31

"Spending money setting up tables in local bring and buy sales." That's exactly where she has gone today! And yesterday she travelled about 150 miles to a "Wellness Summit". Any small amount of money she does make goes straight back into this "business".

It's good to talk to people who understand, this is my husband's sister and obviously there is only so much I can say to him before he starts getting upset about it. He feels as strongly as me but also as helpless.

Thanks for your support.

cozietoesie · 13/11/2016 15:37

Be sure to keep your money close to you. There will be a tremendous temptation to buy goods - 'just one packet after all' - or to accede to requests for e.g. loans. She's family after all.

It will just delay the inevitable, though.

PeachBellini123 · 13/11/2016 19:14

Hello Smile hope you don't mind me joining in but found this thread through AIBU.

So I have a friend who appears to have given up on Younique because, aside from another friend and her SIL, no one bought any products. Despite a lot of FB spamming.

She has however started pushing selling Usbourne books. The whole thing seems suspiciously MLM to me and she's using the same tactics she used to try to sell Younique.

Oh and of course all the books she sells you can get similar ones on Amazon etc for half the price.

Makes me sad as she used to be a nurse, a well respected and liked one at that, but due to illness and having a disabled child, she's stuck at home unable to get a job outside of it. Her DH earns reasonably well (he works with my DH) but I think she's desperate to make her own money.

Anyone else encounted Usbourne and think it's a MLM?

PeachBellini123 · 13/11/2016 19:15

Sorry it's Usborne

cozietoesie · 13/11/2016 19:19

Try doing an internet search using the company name and adding MLM. That should give you some interesting results, I reckon. Wink

Babblehag · 13/11/2016 19:45

yeah, sorry peach, looks like it has the same markers for mlm, large outlay cost for stock, buying new stock monthly, high earner perks etc. Like you say you can get the same stuff cheaper at amazon. Doesn't bode well for distributers.

PeachBellini123 · 13/11/2016 20:08

Yep quick google and MLM and plenty of results. How bloody depressing.

cozietoesie · 13/11/2016 20:15

It is depressing, especially because I like books. If you're minded to do some serious research, though, have a look at the company's financials and work out how they managed to turn a good number of years in decline - 9 comes to mind although I'll stand to be corrected - into a few years of serious growth. (In a declining industry.) Maybe it relates to their changes in 'sales practices' - and maybe not.Wink

Helipad · 13/11/2016 20:45

I have a friend who is an Usborne distributor but she never hassles, spams or hard sells. I know I could get some of those books cheaper elsewhere but in this instance I'm occasionally happy to order books through her.

cozietoesie · 13/11/2016 21:07

Books can be a fairly 'soft sell'. Books tap into so many markets - the Granny/Aunty 'present' market, the 'Nostalgia' market (I wish I'd had this sort of thing when I was at school' allied with 'It's books - they must be a good thing mustn't they?' and the 'concerned' market ('I can use these to help with the children's homework' and 'Buying books for children is a good thing') and so on and so on - all combined, often. Price things right, give them colourful and attractive covers, add in a touch of charitable endeavour and good reputation, and tell your 'salespeople' that the books will 'sell themselves' and you're away.

Yes - it's depressing.

cozietoesie · 13/11/2016 21:12

It may be pretty wampum, or attractive wampum, but wampum it remains.

Twunk · 13/11/2016 22:03

Agreed. We have one here which isn't such a bad move as obviously there aren't many English children's books in the shops....but she's trying to recruit. Now as this area has a limited market for English books recruiting makes little sense. But those are the pressures they are under.

And I can buy Usbourne books in the UK, or from - dare I say it - Amazon.

My NL forever Bot is doing the Christmas market again. This time there are 2 of them (together) - her partner in crime looks like a typical bot - big hair, eyebrows, fake tan, pouty photos. It's like some sort of identikit! Though my Bot isn't like that at all.

Twunk · 13/11/2016 22:04

Can I just say I'm glad to be back? Smile

Spongebobette · 13/11/2016 22:10

And it's lovely to have you back Twunk

Lol about the identikit pouters! With the come hither look in the selfies

PeachBellini123 · 13/11/2016 22:23

Oh yes the books look lovely definitley. It's just that friend has jumped from MLM to MLM to MLM! I can't remember what she did before Younique but this is her 3rd attempt at starting her own 'business'.

Also got a work colleague who does Herbalife...argh they're everywhere!

Twunk · 13/11/2016 23:21

They are! I thought I didn't have any but actually there are 2 HerbalLifers, 2 usbornes, 3 jamberrys, one ex-younique, one current younique and an ex-FL. The current FL one is actually a friend of a friend but has an extremely open profile! I've met her and she's just lovely, but I can't look her in the eye!
