Still going strong here at bot watch HQ on MN!

Previous thread here

Botwatch on Wordpress and on Facebook

Timeless Vie on Wordpress and on Facebook

Eyespeying's Blog aka #manhun, even if he's been banned by MNHQ

Hommetepreneur on Facebook

We have our own regularly returning bots.

Glossary:

Bots: our affectionate name for victims of the MLM racket

MLM: Multi-level Marketing schemes - essentially pyramid schemes that are just legal because you sell a product. Reliant upon constant recruitment despite there not being enough people in the world to go beyond about 12 levels if everyone recruited 6.

Downline/Upline: the people you recruited and those who recruited you (going up and down the pyramid inverted funnel)

Timeless Vie: Parody of MLM schemes (though you might spot one in particular) that also carries out fearless investigative work

Hommetrepreneur: also excellent parody site focussing on the menz

BotWatch: Rather more serious, keeps an eye on what the Bots are claiming next, particularly in reference to health and income claims. Also fearless.

Inverted Funnel: Timeless Vie is NOT a pyramid - it's an inverted Funnel, OK?

Eyes: Our former member Eyespying who knows LOTS about MLM schemes. He's still our very own #manhun.

I'd only really come across JP and FL until these threads but yes smiinky they are all the same! I opened the T&Cs at the bottom of Maelle home page, 49 pages!

Twunk · 13/05/2016 18:45

Ok about the water filter. Will work the same as other similar water filters. They will filter out viruses and bacteria as those are large enough, though there's no way he'd drink pond water and would want to add something like iodine to make sure the water is safe.

It won't filter heavy metals, pesticides etc. None of those things will.

The main problem with those is that people don't clean them properly. They're left to build up limescale deposits that provide a nice environment for bacteria. This is a general problem with all water filters though.

In short, good for an emergency or camping. Bad for long term use. No better than the (cheaper) competition. And no one in the uk needs to filter water anyway.

Twunk · 13/05/2016 18:54

(Unless you're going to drink out of a pond) Hmm

smiinky · 13/05/2016 18:57

No one needs any mlm products at all, but the way they are sold you'd think we'd all be dead without them. My fave scare tactic is still Salad Master (they of the £3000 cooking pan sets - you get about 7 for that price), they imply that if you don't buy their pans then you are poisoning your kids as all other stainless steel pans are impure.

They are all fucking batshit, the lot of them. Buy this air purifier or you'll die from impure air, buy this water bottle or you'll die from impure water. Buy these coloured powders or you'll die from malnutrition. Buy this cloth or your toilet will infect your kids. They claim to harp on about positivity but they are a right depressing bunch of fruitloops.

PowerofThree · 13/05/2016 19:01

I have a water to go bottle which does claim it can filter out chemicals and heavy metals. I admit I have not dug too deeply into the details of who carried out the tests on the filters but then again it only cost 25 quid (and I don't really need to filter heavy metals)

PowerofThree · 13/05/2016 19:04

Link to BBC Radio 5 live here: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b079mg7y#play

Think you have to skip the first hour to get to MLM conversation. Hopefully this link will be allowed to stand as it is to BBC content on the official BBC catch up service!

Twunk · 13/05/2016 19:04

Honestly you don't need them. Lots of people work hard to make sure your drinking water is good. We are very lucky. But I understand some people want to use them and there is zero point spending vast quantities.

And make sure you clean it, descale it and don't just keep filling it! Wink

PowerofThree · 13/05/2016 19:11

Oh, I would never worry about it at home! Should have said I only have it because I was going to a rural part of a country where the water is not safe and there weren't always going to be shops selling bottled water! I couldn't face iodine drops or the wait for sterilising tablets to work so filter bottle it was...

PowerofThree · 13/05/2016 19:34

Thanks for descaling tip twunk I hadn't though of that

BSintolerant · 13/05/2016 19:58

power That Radio 5 link is fascinating from about 36 mins to 54 mins.

There are the usual denials from a British Juice Plus bot who claims to be successful, but wouldn't answer the question of whether she was making a good living out of it: she muttered something about how the opportunity had taken her to some great places.

She claims it's not a pyramid scheme (they're illegal) she doesn't have people below her, and people, especially in GB aren't educated about network marketing. (She'd soon be disabused of that if she read these threads.)

Think I'm close to getting a full rented house there: BINGO!!Grin

An American caller referred to the JP bot as a unicorn. Grin

cozietoesie · 13/05/2016 20:00

A unicorn. Gosh.

Mrshumblepants · 13/05/2016 20:06

Well.... Sorry bbc radio 5 live but that piece was so wishy washy! Unbelievable! Why didnt they come to us? We would have Put up a superb opposition to that well known bot. What a wasted opportunity...

stopfaffing · 13/05/2016 20:13

What a disappointment. Researcher not very good. I think we should tell them to interview Timeless Vie and Bot Watch for a follow up programme, seriously.

Twunk · 13/05/2016 20:25

I'm actually furious about that. It was playing MLM bingo.

"Oh it's okay if you're a sales sort of person." (I paraphrase)

No. It. Fucking. Isn't.

It's still a heap of crap.

Mrshumblepants · 13/05/2016 21:40

Typical 'lets not upset anybody and be sure to totally sit on the fence"'bbc interview! dont know why I expected any different! Such a missed opportunity for some good journalism... Why on earth did they not come to us? We dont have a business or a reputation to protect! No bias, just honest unfiltered opinion...

J244356 · 13/05/2016 21:48

Why are all the FL bots posting asking if anyone has friends in Dubai? So they appear to have a large team when they go there?

Toobusytowee · 13/05/2016 22:26

I thought it would be amusing to show the journey through MLM in the medium of memes. Turns out it's a bit tragicomical though. If anyone has any suggestions of others I could add, I'd like to hear them.

Toobusy that was so good I now need
de programming!

Toobusytowee · 13/05/2016 22:43

Join my team!!

cozietoesie · 13/05/2016 22:45

When you see them all together? Oh Boy.

TwatbadgingCuntfuckery · 13/05/2016 23:30

Ive never understood the water purifying thing. Even with the chlorine/fluoride brigade kicking up a stink about it. I know a couple of folk in. my town who insist on water filters to take out the fluoride - they would totally buy into ariix- thing is, our water doesn't have fluoride added and what is in it is naturally there. Also isn't tea high in fluoride? If so, we Brits should've died out yonks ago if it was that dangerous. Wink

darceybussell · 14/05/2016 07:45

I've just listened to the 5 live show and I don't think the JP lady did herself any favours at all. She talked over the top of everyone else, wouldn't let them speak, went on and on about how brilliant Network marketing was but when asked if she was making a good living she pretty much said no!

stopfaffing · 14/05/2016 07:50

Is it worth me listening or will it just put my back up and frustrate me? Just thinking about it is really annoying to be honest Hmm.

darceybussell · 14/05/2016 07:58

Well obviously it has to be balanced because it's the BBC, but she got much more airtime than the others because she was gobby. But I actually don't think it was so bad that she got so much airtime as she sort of backed herself into a corner. It's worth a listen, even if you just listen to the last bit at about 53 minutes where she gets asked if she is making a good living.

'Oh that's cheeky! Err you've got to remember it's early days for me..... But I'm really excited about the opportunity....'

So no then.

cozietoesie · 14/05/2016 08:06

On balance, I would listen, stopfaffing. Smile
