Still going strong here at bot watch HQ on MN!

Previous thread here

Botwatch on Wordpress and on Facebook

Timeless Vie on Wordpress and on Facebook

Eyespeying's Blog aka #manhun, even if he's been banned by MNHQ

Hommetepreneur on Facebook

We have our own regularly returning bots.

Glossary:

Bots: our affectionate name for victims of the MLM racket

MLM: Multi-level Marketing schemes - essentially pyramid schemes that are just legal because you sell a product. Reliant upon constant recruitment despite there not being enough people in the world to go beyond about 12 levels if everyone recruited 6.

Downline/Upline: the people you recruited and those who recruited you (going up and down the pyramid inverted funnel)

Timeless Vie: Parody of MLM schemes (though you might spot one in particular) that also carries out fearless investigative work

Hommetrepreneur: also excellent parody site focussing on the menz

BotWatch: Rather more serious, keeps an eye on what the Bots are claiming next, particularly in reference to health and income claims. Also fearless.

Inverted Funnel: Timeless Vie is NOT a pyramid - it's an inverted Funnel, OK?

Eyes: Our former member Eyespying who knows LOTS about MLM schemes. He's still our very own #manhun.

Those articles are rather sad to read, especially the 2nd one. It is really rather measured in how it describes MLM, but the comments show how brainwashed adherents really are and as a result of that they read as, to quote spongebobette, bingotastic.

In other news: I now have a new bot who does Younique. What worries me is that she works in an environment with vulnerable people, and given Younique's claims about empowerment... Sad

twat 😂😂

Did you use aloe gel to ease it out of its tight pot, or would that have created an even bigger problem? 🌵

chesarasara · 15/05/2016 14:20

And there you have the 'how to succeed in a MLM' training summed up in 1 post. Doesn't matter which the MLM is the pathetic advice is always the same.

The above examples of attraction marketing is exactly the same as what we were told to do in Forever!!!!!

Your Facebook page Is your shop window!

I can't see the posts you mean on TV ?

Mrshumblepants · 15/05/2016 14:40

They are on the tv visitor posts....

Then on the public pages of the posters, coupled with curious public rebuttal from top bots on their own page/s

Mrshumblepants · 15/05/2016 14:40

It is car crash viewing! 😱

Mrshumblepants · 15/05/2016 14:54

Get over there mumsnetters/lurkers/bots, you wont regret it! Dont hang about though, you never know when it will all just mysteriously dissapear again!

roundandroundthehouses · 15/05/2016 15:00

Hello, if you don't mind me butting in - I know little to nothing about all this, but have seen the thread title floating around and read a few posts before. This made me suspicious when my great-niece (21) suddenly began talking on FB about her 'new business' and made a few 'inspirational' posts, but wouldn't tell anybody what it was until the 'big reveal'. This morning I've been added to a private FB group which seems to be all about beauty products. The first thing she's doing is a prize draw for a box of the products, where you get one entry to the draw for every five people you add to this group. It looks very much like the type of pattern followed by the schemes being talked about on this thread, except that it was very difficult to find out the actual brand of the products involved. After a bit of digging it seems to be something called Nu-Skin, and it does seem to get a bad rap as an MLM.

Obviously if it was an acquaintance I would just ignore it, and make my excuses if ever approached. But this is a young and vulnerable family member, who has two young children and is trying to build up her life again by studying, etc., after losing several years to serious MH issues. My niece (her mum) seems to be supporting her in it, as a way that she thinks she might be able to find her feet :( . From what I read on here, these people are so brainwashed that they won't listen to concerned friends and relatives, and no doubt are told how to deflect or ignore criticism. I'm pretty sure that if I sent her any links, or said anything, it would cause a big family row - but perhaps it would be worth it, to sow the doubt in her mind. Is there anything at all that I can do?

Toobusytowee · 15/05/2016 15:21

If I were you, I think I would contact her mum and try to educate her about it. Get her thoughts on the issue. Together you could then have a talk with your niece about it.

You could try sending this to her

Delurker2016 · 15/05/2016 15:24

It's hilarious that top bot is now claiming she is being cyber bullied.
Oh the irony of it all.

worcestersauce29 · 15/05/2016 15:31

i cant find the car crash :( please send me directions

roundandroundthehouses · 15/05/2016 15:32

Thank you so much, Toobusy. That is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for Flowers

cozietoesie · 15/05/2016 15:33

Good to have you on the thread, round. Smile

I'd listen to Toobusy's words. It's a difficult real-life family situation for you and we all appreciate that I'm sure.

I suspect - and I've posted this before - that there are grannies, aunties, Mums etc etc all over the UK who have 'product' of some description that they've bought, perhaps under family pressure, in the belief that doing this will 'help out' someone in the family who needs to get themselves on a sounder basis.

It won't usually work out that way, I'm afraid. Sad

Mrshumblepants · 15/05/2016 15:37

Hi round so berry sorry to hear you are going through this with your great niece! Yes NU SKIN is a prevalent mlm, up there with forever, JP, Ariix etc... The jargon may differ slightly, the triangle may be represented as a rectangle, and the products might look different. But essentially they are all just variations on the same scammy mlm schemes...

Botwatch and timeless vie, have many helpful posts on how to help a family member and advise them, however it all depends on how deep they are in as to whether you can stop this from happening.

timelessvie.wordpress.com

botwatchblog.wordpress.com

Start there by having a read through the articles about how to help family members, and come here to us regularly for additional support. I dont know how long you have read these threads, so you may or may not be aware of the resistance that is commonly faced by us here from bots, so you can get some idea of what you may be up against and the kind of people that now have your relative in their fold.

bear in mind, that essentially these are cults, no matter how people may laugh at you for the suggestion. So you have to approach this from that perspective Im afraid.

Be wary of purchasing the products they are selling or attending the parties out of support for them or guilt , as it can lend the appearance of early success to them and may drive them in deeper, you can support them in other ways, as tricky as it is, try and keep normality in your communications with them, and change the subject when the "business" comes up in conversation, If you wish to confront them with your doubts, be clear how you feel, expect resistance from them and be ready for the scripted responses you may get. Put it out there, tell them you do it from a place of love, and leave it to them after that, dont harp on at them, as they will just shut you out, once is enough to say your piece, have the conversation and tell them you will be there to support them if things dont work out for them.

Hope that helps...

Mrshumblepants · 15/05/2016 15:41

Very sorry, not berry! Bloody auto correct!

Right directions to car crash.

Hope that helps worcester, rubbernecking all round!

worcestersauce29 · 15/05/2016 15:43

ty I'm on my way humble

roundandroundthehouses · 15/05/2016 15:44

Many thanks. Ironically my niece (this girl's Mum), who seems to be supporting her in the whole thing, was a Kleeneze distributor a few years back. That seemed to just fizzle out and I didn't ever really ask her why she'd stopped. But I'm surprised that she's supporting her daughter in what looks like another one.

Back when my niece was doing Kleeneze I had no idea what it was, and filled my house with products to try and support her. But after a couple of months I just didn't need any more. Since then I've had a fair bit of experience in turning down approaches from other school mums and various acquaintances, but this is the first time since I've been wiser to it that a vulnerable family member has started up. I really appreciate the advice.

Mrshumblepants · 15/05/2016 15:45

Oh, and round most importamtly of all, do join the resistance with us! Whether secretly or publicly, all support for the cause is appreciated! Welcome! Flowers

Mrshumblepants · 15/05/2016 15:51

The reason they get drawn in to mlms again round, is because they are conditioned to believe that failure in this rigged game is their fault. This is due to the law of attraction style training (brainwashing) which teaches them that negativity attracts negativity and vice versa so if they were negative, or didnt follow the 'plan' they failed for that reason alone and no other.

Never mind the fact that statistically there is a 99% failure (no real profit made and usually a tangible loss) rate across most if not all mlms... But dont say that obviously hun... You will just be a hater ;-)

Oh, and the next mlm is always way more generous than the others, better structure, better plan, not a pointy triangle etc... "We care about you hun" all that guff...

roundandroundthehouses · 15/05/2016 15:51

Thank you. It makes me very angry that a young, vulnerable woman, who has pulled herself up against the odds and is trying her best to make a better life for herself and her young children, is being targeted by a swarm of brainwashing parasites. Of course, that's exactly the sort of person they target.

roundandroundthehouses · 15/05/2016 15:52

Oh, great. So she's going to think, when it all goes tits up, that it's because she failed.

cozietoesie · 15/05/2016 15:52

Wouldn't your niece likely have supported her daughter in most anything though, round ? (If she thought her daughter seemed motivated by it, anyway.)

cozietoesie · 15/05/2016 15:53

....because she failed......

Yes. I'm afraid so. Sad
