Well done. This evening would probably be about right. Smile

cozietoesie · 28/03/2016 13:22

That link was......well......., Eye, but have you checked out the material linked to that country on YouTube? That bears a viewing by more people.

stopfaffing · 28/03/2016 13:39

Day. Merchants book shows how difficult it is to help an adherent see how bad their MLM is, when they are immersed in the cult-ure. Alcohol hard and painful it is when they are finally forced to face the awful truth Sad.

I felt for the author of Merchants of Deception. We might call him a bot, were he to be operating in MLM today, but although he was a high-achieving bot, he was as much a victim as the ones who never make it to the first level.
I believe his agonising about how he never wanted to dupe his downlines was genuine.
I believe the situation within MLMs is much the same these days, and that the bots we have now, who look to be so successful, are probably in a similar position to Eric Scheibeler. The difference between then and now is the Internet. Surely they must know about this kind of thing? Are they shutting their eyes to it and singing la la la to avoid facing up to the truth?

DayToDayGlobalShit · 28/03/2016 14:32

I expect they are told not to search for anything negative and to ignore all the jealousy. Much the same brainwashing as it was back then.

I should think the only difference is that now people can constantly direct them to the truth but the companies themselves can ensure that they are top in the google list and take several pages of searches before the ugly truth is revealed.

I too felt for Eric in the book, especially that he was lured into it like the other bots and would appear that the truth is only apparent once they have got to emerald/diamond status when the money is still not there.

'The difference between then and now is the Internet. Surely they must know about this kind of thing? Are they shutting their eyes to it and singing la la la to avoid facing up to the truth?'

The same question applies to regulators, law enforcement agents, journalists, legislators, 'MLM' company attorneys, bankers and accountants, etc.

Eye, thank you for your message. Your understanding and articulation has helped me make sense of what I was thinking about the matter.
MLMs are like viruses in our society from which some of us are immune but others are changed for good.

Twunk · 28/03/2016 15:11

And you get the uber-bots saying "well if I did it anyone can"

But in a pyramid that simply cannot be true - it just can't.

Plus there is so much "smoke and mirrors (aka "attraction marketing" no one will ever know how much money they make (in the good times) - mostly down to the deliberately convoluted "compensation plans" (that are heavily biased towards recruitment, not retail).

And don't even start me on the unoriginal and overpriced products, with spurious health claims. Of course now they are encouraged to make this claims in private so we can't catch them.

And THEN we are accused of negativity, being haterz, stalking, reckless endangerment (by people who put their entire lives open on the Internet) because we are the bad people apparently.

Boils my piss.

Twunk · 28/03/2016 15:12

Should be a closed bracket after "attraction marketing"

Twunk · 28/03/2016 15:13

Actually I should point out that other MLMs that don't make health claims aren't much better - still using the pyramid scheme as a way of selling their unoriginal and overpriced crap.

Mamamammy · 28/03/2016 15:25

It's the associations with charity they use to validate their business which makes me angry .... 'Sponsored 9 day cleanse for X charity'

throwingpebbles · 28/03/2016 15:27

Totally agree mama it is a very cynical reason to hold a charity event Angry

Even more cynical is FL's close relationship with the "dot com" foundation... A charity which aims to educate children about the risks of the Internet ....

thetemptationofchocolate · 28/03/2016 15:28

And THEN we are accused of negativity, being haterz, stalking, reckless endangerment (by people who put their entire lives open on the Internet) because we are the bad people apparently.

Worse than that Twunk, we are also middle-aged.
And we like cheese, apparently that's bad too.
:)

throwingpebbles · 28/03/2016 15:29

Anyway, just to lower the tone a moment.... Went to the ideal home show today and a stall was handing out aloe drink samples.... Not only does it taste pretty unpleasant but if anyone else is stupid enough to try it then do make sure you know where the nearest loos are BlushBlushBlush

afterthegoldrush · 28/03/2016 15:33

But throwing it wasn't just aloe was it? It was honey flavoured... Would that be Bee Honey by any chance??? Lmfao

throwingpebbles · 28/03/2016 15:33

(I didn't actually have an accident. That came out wrong Blush)!

afterthegoldrush · 28/03/2016 15:35

Oh come on we know you shat yourself.....

Twunk · 28/03/2016 15:48

Ah yes cheese....

Oooooo by the way we saved 2 dogs yesterday! They were completely silent but were in the house that was on fire.

Oh dear to the aloe's single documented effect Throwing Grin

Twunk · 28/03/2016 15:50

Charity shitathon? Blush Grin

throwingpebbles · 28/03/2016 16:05

If only I had had some aloe cleaning products on me....

I watched the videos Cubic and am still none the wiser.
But I was a little distracted by her amazing eyebrows :)

Toobusytowee · 28/03/2016 17:17

That's funny! I thought 'wrapping people' meant finalising a deal. Like 'it's a wrap'. I didn't think she actually meant wrapping people in a wrap! If that's what she meant.
