I'm reading a very interesting book called 'combating cult mind control' by Steven Hassan. It is really, really good. I might as well be reading about MLMs, not the Moonies etc. He counsels people out of cults and describes in this book how cults work and how to help people out of them. I will arrange the information into a fact sheet as soon a I have digested the information myself.

So far I have learnt that in the early stages you can help people out by providing information. It has to be the information that they need to hear. Not much we can do about that, we can just provide what we know.

He also says that you mustn't criticise the cult/MLM because their defences will automatically be raised. Try and connect with the person they used to be. Don't engage about the MLM. You are in danger of being cut off.

Further tips and ideas to follow...

Sorry to hear about your friend Giraffe. Try and be there for her but do not engage any further about the MLM. I think one sensitively phrased attempt at this stage is probably all you can get away with.

GiraffesAndButterflies · 27/03/2016 05:49

We don't really have a relationship where I can be there for her, other than a friend's wedding this is our first contact in years. I have however warned other mutual friends who I'm close to.

That may be a standard reply they've been told to give to anything sent to them.

I thought exactly that, posted it wondering if I'd get that response.

Fingers crossed she will see the trap before she's in it too deeply, then.

Toobusy, can I make a suggestion about the link? Might it work better if the hyperlink gave less away? There might be a better bot-click percentage if it wasn't obviously anti-MLM. It sounds quite interventionist at the moment. Just a thought.

JolseBaby · 27/03/2016 08:20

I'd bet my shiny pound that she hasn't read it. On the very slim off-chance that she has read it, it will be a carefully edited version that has been annoted by the MLM casting doubt on what's being said.

Giraffe, you are right about the hyperlink title. Someone a few posts back made a smaller one for it - tinyurl.com/ha6sgxw

It doesn't give anything away and is easier to put on info leaflets.

Eye, this is an eye-opening, shocking and disturbing critique of MLM and how it operates in the USA. I was drawn particularly to the carefully orchestrated planning by those in MLM to embed themselves into mainstream corporate posts and positions, creating a powerful and influential lobbying group, in order to legitimise MLM and allow any derailment of anti-MLM lobbying for changes in law (to protect the American public).

I am (yet again) overwhelmed by the task we have set ourselves; to rid our country of this insidious and cruel business model that can only operate on the basis that more than 99% fail. There are organisations out there with a vested interest in stopping any challenges from people who want more regulation of MLM. They are powerful, influential, and wealthy as a result of their long standing fleecing of the public. They will (and maybe already have) infiltrate positions of trust in our (UK) corporate and political world in order to derail any possibility of changes in our laws to protect the public.

I'm only half way through listening to the video Grin so will listen to the rest now...I don't see a happy ending to this story though.

The link mentioned in the video pyramidschemealert.org/.

I've listened to half the film too and will have to finish the rest later because chaos is reigning in my house with children and Easter eggs.

It is thoroughly depressing listening to what is going on, more so having read some of Steven's book.

I feel we need to get government to listen to us. We need to get one of those government petition things going. I certainly will write to my MP again.

stopfaffing Robert FitzPatrick is just about the only challenger to the 'MLM' lie with whom I've been publicly associated. What he says in this video is very close to my own overall analysis, but lately Robert's own analysis has come increasingly in line with my own. In the past, I have been regarded (even by challengers to the 'MLM' lie) as being too extreme in my views, but I would say that I've only been forthright. Robert himself has been falsely portrayed as an extremist by 'MLM' propagandists.

Knowing that I risked being attacked by 'MLM' propagandists as 'a crackpot conspircay theorist,' I was the first person publicly to identify the phenomenon of 'blame-the-victim MLM income opportunity cultic racketeering' and give it an accurate label. I was also the first person openly to state that so-called 'Multi-Level Marketing' has been the reality-inverting label hung over an ongoing criminogenic phenomenon of historic significance. The depth to which the crackpot 'MLM' pseudo-economic science has been allowed to infiltrate traditional culture, now represents a significant threat to democracy and the rule of law all around the globe.

Unfortunately, this is not an exaggeration.

Eyespying · 27/03/2016 10:03

conspiracy (same problem with Easter eggs here)

Motorheadmum · 27/03/2016 10:12

cozie you are supposed to have 14 days to cancel the order and pull out of becoming a distributor, but from my experience this doesn't happen. This is how I got all my money back as I could prove I had tried to cancel the next morning. It's hidden in small print and I know it wasn't mentioned to me, in fact the opposite. Might be good if a blog could go up about it?

Eyespying · 27/03/2016 10:16

Toobusytowee and stopfaffing - This is the shortest, fully-deconstructed analysis that I've been able to come up with to describe the true nature of the 'MLM' phenomenon.

More than half a century of quantifiable evidence, proves beyond all reasonable doubt that what has become popularly known as 'Multi-Level Marketing' is nothing more than an absurd, cultic, economic pseudo-science, and that the impressive-sounding made-up term 'MLM,' is, therefore, part of an extensive, thought-stopping, non-traditional jargon which has been developed, and constantly-repeated, by the instigators, and associates, of various, copy-cat, major, and minor, ongoing organized crime groups (hiding behind labyrinths of legally-registered corporate structures) to shut-down the critical, and evaluative, faculties of victims, and of casual observers, in order to perpetrate, and dissimulate, a series of blame-the-victim closed-market swindles or pyramid scams (dressed up as 'legitimate direct selling income opportunites'), and related advance-fee frauds (dressed up as 'legitimate: training and motivation, self-betterment, mindset programs, recruitment leads, lead generation systems,' etc.).

cozietoesie · 27/03/2016 10:57

Well after reminding all my family about the clock change, I slept in - and am completely not compos mentis. You'll have to forgive me if I'm not here this morning. I haven't even changed all the things that need changing. Sad

Twunk · 27/03/2016 11:44

I may or may not have a hangover. To be honest I don't want to move to find out - which I suspect confirms it. Confused

I will catch up on the thread when I think I will be able to understand it...

stopfaffing · 27/03/2016 11:46

Twunk don't watch the video with a hangover Grin.

Thanks for the warning. Ooooooo I've just remembered the solpadeine in the cupboard! Trouble is its down stairs. You can't buy it here (no codeine otc) so it's only for very special occasions. This may be one of them

Twunk · 27/03/2016 13:16

Found the article on NOT boosting your immune system (and how the green goo won't help anyway)

www.theguardian.com/science/2016/jan/24/health-foods-immune-system-colds-vitamins

“If a supplement actually stimulated the innate immune response then it would leave you with a constant feeling of being unwell,” says Bangham, “with a fever, a snotty nose, depression and lethargy without any obvious benefit. So in that respect, the whole idea is a bit of a con.”

afterthegoldrush · 27/03/2016 13:41

throwingpebbles · 27/03/2016 19:17

DayToDayGlobalShit · 27/03/2016 19:51

I am here, reading my merchants of deception. Page 91 when he has just left his J.O.B.

It is cringe. Am glued to it, so flitting between reading that and seeing what is on here. (and eating Lindor of course)

Twunk · 27/03/2016 20:28

I must get round to reading that!

I've had a lovely family day - a big bunch of us at a friend's house because one of our number is leaving. And we stopped a house being burned down - worked out someone's kitchen was on fire as we could smell burning plastic - and called the fire brigade. So all the children got to see the fire engines which was entertaining.

The house wasn't badly damaged but had filled with acrid smoke. Kitchen was a write-off. They weren't in but i understand a young family live there - what a day for them Sad

LMGTFY · 27/03/2016 20:35

Not even opened my easter eggs yet, cleaning is how I spent my easter Sunday. It'll also be how I spend my easter Monday! Twunk your day sounds much more interesting!

RoseDeWittBukater · 27/03/2016 21:16

Tiptoes in Hello all knowledgable ones. I would love to read through all the threads but I really don't have time, so forgive me if I'm repeating things.

Anyway, have any of you seen/heard of the new grocery shopping MLM? I can't even see its name on the shit recruitment videos popping up on my feed. Think its global constellations or some such?

I have a new Bot for this new thing and it's actually petrifying! At least the JP+/Younique/FL bots are predicable.

throwingpebbles · 27/03/2016 21:22

Weirdly have just come across one like that right now rose ... But it's called life tree ...could easily be more than one, it is v scary how many there are!
