I've started this the absence of anyone else starting a thread on the subject and since the Chat thread will disappear in a month. Hope you think it's in the right place.

I'm still dithering which is annoying me. I've made a new e-mail - hope to get bank account this week. I keep looking at the different websites like Bonus Bagging and Profit Accumulator etc and can't decide between them. Put off by what Tawny said about Profit Maximiser and don't trust myself to do it without help so going for Bonus Bagging, i think.

How much do people realistically make doing this? I know of someone who says she makes £1500+ a month and quit her PT job in care work to spend several hours a day 'working' on her matched betting.
She says there are people who make over £2k a month doing it.

But how can anyone make that much, surely there are only so many offers and even with amazing odds and a large balance to counter bet you can only make so much profit.

How much do people really make doing it?

tonymac84 · 28/11/2016 15:19

@NotDavidTennant I've also found that I win more at the bookies, certainly more so than when I used to be a regular punter lol!

I think the point is to try and pick a loser. i.e back a 5.00 horse in a race with a 3.50 co fav and a 1.80 fav. If you're unlucky and it wins, you can over lay to limit match losses when completing the wagering (providing you have the betting bank to do it)

tonymac84 · 28/11/2016 15:22

@WeAreEternal I'd say it's entirely possible to make that much but you would need to put in more time than I do. About 30 mins a day (probably an hour or so on Saturday's) gets me £500-ish per month easy

amazingamy09 · 28/11/2016 19:38

Well, I've done my first couple of bets.

1 matched to qualify for the Coral free bets, and have just put them on! Wish me luck haha!

Karcheer · 28/11/2016 21:49

Hi, I've been thinking about doing this since the summer, read loads about it whilst sunbathing...
But didn't start.
Now I've some time and the need for some extra cash :/

What's the best sites to read and the best place to start.
Can I just follow the links on the earlier page and follow step by step? It can't be that easy surely? Before I was reading about betmonkey etc...

Karcheer · 28/11/2016 21:50

Oh and do you have a separate bank account for this? Don't really want to explain to dh until I can make it work...

tonymac84 · 29/11/2016 14:05

@amazingamy09 Coral is a good one to start with, which MB site have you used?

tonymac84 · 29/11/2016 14:09

@Karcheer there are quite a few sites to choose from and they do make it really easy. I like matchedbets.com because it automatically tracks everything, so you can show dh how much you've been making ;)

amazingamy09 · 29/11/2016 14:26

I used betfair, only thing is, when I press the link from oddsmatcher, it keeps trying to get me to sign up again, which is a bit annoying!

tonymac84 · 29/11/2016 15:32

@amazingamy09 Sorry I meant which site are you using for the calculator, oddsmatcher etc?

Before using Betfair exchange which charge 5%, you should see if you can lay on Smarkets. They offer 2% commission which saves you a fair bit in the long run :)

amazingamy09 · 29/11/2016 22:37

Oh sorry, I'm so dense at this. I've been using oddsmatcher yes. I'll have a look at smarkets - does it work in the same sort of way as betfair?

Thank you for the advice btw, I really appreciate it

tonymac84 · 30/11/2016 14:38

@amazingamy09 yeah it's the same idea with a different layout. I actually prefer Smarkets now and only go back to Betfair when I'm betting on a market that Smarkets don't have

Karcheer · 30/11/2016 18:03

Hello, me again!
Been reading lots and making notes.
Do you use oddsmatcher instead of a spreadsheet?
Do you use a word doc to track all the offers you've done?
Do you go via quidco to the bookies to get money back via that too.
Where do you get an initial list of all the offers? I thought I'd read this before but can't seem to find this info now, bear in mind I'm over thinking this now and think I'll give it a go tmr!

Karcheer · 30/11/2016 18:12

And by oddsmatcher, do you actually mean oddsmonkey?

likeaZombie · 30/11/2016 18:14

Just wondering where I would stand with regards to tax credits and housing benefits if I could make a go of this and make a regular small amount? Would I need to declare winnings as income or not?

GardeningWithDynamite · 30/11/2016 18:24

No declaring or anything - it's entirely tax free because it's "gambling" (even though you're betting on all outcomes so technically don't care about the result.

GardeningWithDynamite · 30/11/2016 18:26

I'm using OddsMonkey and a spreadsheet to check bets/accounts. I have all my passwords stored in a password manager. I got money from quidco for joining William Hill (lots) but haven't done any others on there (probably should have!)

likeaZombie · 30/11/2016 21:46

Grr betfair keeps crashing on my phone. Do I need a computer to do this? I have a tablet but no proper computer.
Betfair have a £20 offer on if first bet is 20. Does this mean I can make money on my first bet by betting 20 to open the free bet on coral or wherever?

tonymac84 · 01/12/2016 16:00

@Karcheer You don't need any spreadsheets or word documents with matchedbets.com as it's all automatically tracked and you can use the site to work through all of the offers. Oddsmonkey is another matched betting site but they all have an 'odds matcher' of some kind which is where you find the best match between bookie and exchange. Hope that helps Smile

tonymac84 · 01/12/2016 16:04

@likeaZombie no need to declare anything as it's all winnings, so completely tax-free. It's easier on a PC or laptop but you should be fine on a tablet. Just open a few browser windows so you can flick between things easily

Karcheer · 01/12/2016 16:57

@tonymac84 I've created a free account with matchedbets, looks a bit too good to be true :/

You put in how much the free bet is and then it tells you how much to lay.
I do have a question though, it says "could lay" I assume this is the actual amount you should lay?

Does it cap how much you can win, or theoretically can you just work through all the offers from the top to bottom?

Karcheer · 01/12/2016 17:57

Oddsmonkey seems to get the best reviews.
I can't find any reviews for matchedbets.com

amazingamy09 · 01/12/2016 21:24

I realise I'm probably being incredibly dense - I'm trying to get my free bet with Skybet - I've signed up, it's saying I've £10 as a free bet in the orange rectangle at the top of the screen.

I'm trying to make a bet, but when I put in my stake it says that I need funds, and I can't work out how to use the free bet. I've tried the help section but I just can't work it out.

Please can anyone help, I'm driving myself mad here!?

CockneyViv · 01/12/2016 21:33

Most bookmakers have a drop down column at the stake so you can click on the free bet. Alternatively there may be a thick box

likeaZombie · 01/12/2016 22:00

I'm using odds monkey. What does odds match mean in the column where it's saying type of bet ie team or draw. Also under over or under 2.5 and the like.
Never really bet before so I'm a complete novice this is harder than I thought it would be
