Did she include a deal of 'positive stroking' in her spiel? People are very susceptible to that.

As an equally cynical, non-materialistic person, I get what you say and I have rationalised it as follows:

We all would love to have a healthier work/life balance. I for one quite like the idea of a 4 day working week with a 3 day weekend. But I would need the same amount of money in order to live my life without scraping by.

And that, I believe, I what REALLY attracts us to this idea. They don't sell us the high earnings, they are selling us this nonexistent 'healthy' work-life balance.

However much they are lying to us, it's something we want to believe is possible and therefore will believe it when someone tells us this is their life.

She might be having more success simply because the name isn't so well known but the tactics are the same. Some MLMs elicit an immediate groan these days.

ambler21 · 03/02/2016 15:31

Great work acat. I think it works well as it is.
throwing They use many techniques to try and bypass our conscious thinking and access the subconscious mind. I've heard bots talk about accessing the lizard brain that makes decisions subconsciously based on fear / physical stimulus etc. There are a lot of psychological studies out there relating to conformity and group behaviour which relate to this as well.
It's essentially standard marketing tactics, just think about that advert you see on television but find yourself humming the tune later that day.
Also we are all, in an evolutionary sense, very open to the idea of shortcuts, special offers and secret knowledge.

MrGrumpy01 · 03/02/2016 15:33

Is it just me who thinks 'compensation plan' actually sounds quite negative? Compensation is usually when something bad happens (accident) or to make up for time you have wasted.

ambler21 · 03/02/2016 15:34

Sry that should read, that advert that you absolutely hate, but find yourself humming

Clarella · 03/02/2016 15:44

Hi, this is slightly OT and sorry, I've not caught up on the thread, but I've started catching up on the trust me I'm a dr series on bbc.

They do diss quite a lot of health claims eg protein drinks. It might be firstly helpful to refer to it if you encounter any bot stuff, secondly of interest to TV and lastly - I wonder if the prog could investigate / test some of the claims?

This is a screen shot from the first prog (in relation to free radicals and anti oxidants)

throwingpebbles -

firstclassmlmtools.com/portfolio-item/mlm-how-to-creating-curiosity/

The technique is called 'creating curiosity.' Also, all these devious, co-ordinated techniques of social, and psychological, persuasion were first introduced into 'MLM' cultic rackets in the USA for a specific reason.

It's because, for a long time, the most well known 'MLM' rackets have been generally derided in the USA, so recruiters needed to withhold the both name of the front company and particularly the term, 'MLM,' to have any chance of getting a 'prospect' to start to enter the labyrinth.

For a while 'Amway' became known as 'Quixtar' in the USA and the racket it still retains various other names, 'Alticor', 'Nutrilite', 'Amsure Insurance,' etc. All this was because 'Amway' recruiters had become such a laughing stock in the States.

The effect that Bots are experiencing is the same effect that anyone experiences whilst watching an exciting, frightening or sad movie. It's close to hypnosis, the total suspension of disbelief. Bots' unquestioning belief in 'MLM,' and their resulting emotions, are quite genuine, even though what is producing their belief, and their euphoria, is completely false and dangerous.

When meeting Bots, especially in a group, you've got to keep telling yourself: These people are deluded.

Certain investigative journalists quite literally have undergone conversion experiences whilst trying to infiltrate cults, even though they knew how they functioned.

It cannot be over emphasised that totalistic conversion is one of, if not, the most powerful, and little understood, of phenomena.

When you encounter people overcome by emotion it's very difficult not to get caught drawn in yourself. Remember, all cults manipulate our instincts and we can't escape from our instincts. After all, we are only one chromosome away from being chimpanzees.

throwingpebbles · 03/02/2016 16:15

See that's what makes it even more ridiculous that they can work their magic on me acat because I pretty much have the elusive "work life balance". I basically have a regular salary but can work my hours flexibly around my kids!! eye is onto something with then lizard brain thing.

I agree acat though that part of what really angers me and makes me feel mumsnet is an important forum is that they really do target mums who are anxious to have more time with their kids
But we have seen from ECs wonderful video that this my actually attainable in Forever

lastuseraccount123 · 03/02/2016 16:16

eyespy can you please try and keep your posts a bit shorter? thanks. It does turn (some) people off when they are so long.

lasteruser123 Sorry, I should have posted a reply to throwingpebbles deep question on the other thread. But I forgot myself. Please tell me we are still friends.

Gimlet1984 · 03/02/2016 16:25

The reason a lot of bots are leaving Juice Plus to join Ariix is because top shills like James Lavelle are moving across and so his devoted downline follow suit.

A video here of James showing us how juice plus is not a pyramid 'thing' because its "A multi billion pound company with long traditions in history, pyramid scams are illegal a company of this size and stature would not be involved in anything like that"

A rather lengthy video of why he left Juice Plus to join Ariix here

Gimlet1984 · 03/02/2016 16:32

Hilarious video of Jouvé here with over the top reactions when they look no different.

Found a uk Ariix shill explaining the opportunity here as well seems to have the same plugs as Forever stay at home mums etc

Mootpointer · 03/02/2016 16:37

eyes even award winning TV directors fall to the patter.
Here's Wes Linden having a friendly little interview with one, who apparently joined to prove it was a scam. Guess what she ended up doing?

Mootpointer - At about 3 minutes, this film maker name-drops Steven Spielberg, and (former professional football referee) Linden almost has an orgasm.

Ironically, Spielberg was one of Bernie Madoff's victims.

Even more ironically, this ex-BBC film maker wrote a book, called the 'Researcher's Guide to Crimewatch.'

Loving the continued great work here. Not sure if anyone else has seen this? rhysmorgan.co/multilevel-marketing/ ? Good blog post, but what is most revealing is the comment from 'James' - you'll have to scroll past a few Bot comments, but it's worth it. Pretty much sums up what other ex Bots have told us (for which I'm very grateful).

Feel really sorry for him :(

LikeBigBotsAndICannotLie · 03/02/2016 17:10

I know I am late to the party here and with TV on facebook but has anyone else noticed this since they liked TV - non-stop sponsored adverts for total pish usually accompanied by videos spouting about amazing MLM products? Or am I just that unlucky?

LikeBigBotsAndICannotLie · 03/02/2016 17:12

Should have added - they think TV is real and are offering me similar products Grin

GirlFromTheNorthCountry · 03/02/2016 17:17

Is it just me or do the bots appear to have gone a bit quiet lately?! Mine hasn't posted about going to the gym/making a cup of tea/sitting on her arse in pjs all day for a while.

Eyespying · 03/02/2016 17:19

It turns out that the ex BBC film maker has been involved with 'Utility Warehouse' as a 'Distributor,' and that this group has atually employed her film company to make recruitment propaganda.

Motorheadmum · 03/02/2016 17:30

My Ariix bot has had 5 promotions this week and is now a manager? This had a red badge? Anyone know what that means?

stopfaffing · 03/02/2016 17:31

Here it is, James' comment:_

"Like others…. great article. My wife is now a FLP ‘silver platinum manager with diamonds sprinkled on top’.

Her association with the company and it’s products has hugely impacted on our marriage. She has lost very good friends because of her obsession with flogging the products to them and is no longer invited to social events – probably because they are all sick of her. It gives me no pleasure to say that, none at all. But I want others to know this. She is not making a fortune. If anything she spends more on buying all the products to try herself, making only the people above her money.

She is hounded constantly by other FL idiots, telling her she is strong, brave, a great business woman and has these sickly American ‘positive’ messages drilled in to her almost hourly. It’s funny how many times, I’ve heard other FL reps spouting the same lines……amazing how many go and donate blood after their ‘clean 9’ and their levels of everything were ‘perfect’. Its lies. They are told to say this.

Her ‘recruiter’ has even started interfering in our marriage, texting my wife, telling her she deserves a husband that is supportive and understands. And that I don’t respect her. And tells her how she should tell all her friends and family that I will not allow her to follow her dreams etc. The fact is she has very few friends left that care. And whilst I love and respect her and have supported her for the past 12 years of marriage, I know this is a con and cant bear to watch my once happy, fulfilled wife become consumed by this crap.

They are also told to throw out compliments to anyone who has ever bought anything from them. They are told to boast about earnings in order to recruit others – which is how they make their money.

They are told to be uber critical of any other aloe product sold in the UK – Holland and Barrett being their main ‘target’. The fact is their products are cheap but sold for an over-priced amount. There are no official health benefits that they are allowed to boast of.

The truth is my wife had a very good job in London. She loved it and the industry she worked in. She lost her job and found another one, but was also made redundant within a year. Her ‘recruiter’ pounced on this and took advantage of her when she was at her most vulnerable and has hounded her everyday since.

My advice to anyone thinking about joining FL – DONT. You wont get rich. You will lose family and friends and be left alone."

Sad
MrGrumpy01 · 03/02/2016 17:33

I am sure I have read James's story before, maybe on MSE as I don't recall that blog, it is very sad. I think I believe he is telling the truth, he has nothing personally to gain by telling his story.

With the number of 'him and hers' in the business I am not surprised if there is pressure to get rid if the other partner hasn't 'embraced the opportunity' also after pressure
