This thread is loosely linked to several previous ones on the same topic.

We live in a society that makes it horribly easy to get into debt but makes it incredibly hard to admit you have a problem and even harder to get out of debt.
Everybody is welcome to share problems, ideas, solutions, but not be judgemental please

I am not in debt, any more.
Here is a link to some spreadsheets that might help explain how
SPREADSHEETS-for-Debt-Control-Budgeting-Mortgages-etc

and lots of people use this
YouNeedABudget

The important things to remember are

  • yesterday is as past as the Crimean War
( we will not judge how you got into debt, but we will support you on the way out )
  • this is an anonymous forum
( we will not tell your employer, family or friends of the reality of your numbers and we are here day and night )
  • this thread is about supporting people through the huge mindset changes needed to come out of debt
( feel free to offload all of the feelings that drive you to want to spend, that make it hard to save and that generally make life crap at times, including getting those closest to you to recognise the changes needed )

Join in, bare your soul and come out the other end.
Its worth it.
You are worth it
The long term results for you, your partner, your children, and your friends and family are worth it.

£3k?
Ooof
We don't spend anything like that on hols so...yes..if I were in your shoes that would be the first thing to go

Toberich · 27/07/2016 08:15

No €3k so about £2.5 yeah it's a big chunk but lots of time to think about it !

Toberich · 27/07/2016 17:03

I had a think abut it & while cancelling the holiday (next summer!) would mean paying our debts 3 months earlier I think we do need it mentally to have a break !

cozietoesie · 27/07/2016 18:04

Would you be able to mentally get yourselves back on track with saving afterwards? Smile

Toberich · 27/07/2016 19:25

Well it would be budgeted for & not affect debt payments etc ! It just seems like a lot !

cozietoesie · 27/07/2016 19:31

It is a lot. No getting round that.

I couldn't spend that personally if I was in a time of stringency, but that's just me.

Badders123 · 27/07/2016 19:49

It's your decision obv
And I get what you mean re: needing something to look forward to
But I couldn't spend that on a holiday if I was in debt
Mind you we have only done uk hols for the past few years!! Smile

Toberich · 27/07/2016 20:17

Tbh "at home" hols would only shave about 1k off that tbh ! (She says justifying it to herself) 🙂

cozietoesie · 27/07/2016 21:00

'At home' or in the UK.?

Toberich · 28/07/2016 17:59

Ireland so neither 🙂 Sometimes you need a bit of hot sun to look forward to I fully believe it's good for the health. Having said that we had a heat wave last week !

cozietoesie · 28/07/2016 18:46

It's a fair old sum, nonetheless, Tobe. Who would that be covering?

Appleand · 28/07/2016 18:56

I'm joining this thread for support, advice and inspiration, I have £6000 debt I'd like to pay off as soon as possible. The problem, as ever, is lack of extra money to fund the repayments. So it will be a slow process. Not easy to earn extra money either as I don't drive, don't have much free time and not any skills to speak of. I will probably be able to pay off £50/ month to start with and hopefully less interest means I can hike up the payments on a regular basis.

Toberich · 28/07/2016 19:35

All 4 of us including spending money flights & accommodation.
Dear god am fed up with the nits is there ANYwhere I can get PROPER insecticide shampoo ?!!! Seems the control of it now relies 100% on (mostly) mothers spending hours combing them out.

Toberich · 28/07/2016 19:36

Yes I know health risks, resistance etc but it's actually causing my mental health !

Badders123 · 28/07/2016 19:46

Did you try HEDRIN?
Not sure why it keeps putting that in capitals!!

Toberich · 28/07/2016 19:53

I have to admit no as all chemists I've been to (and I'm going to different ones such is my embarrassment !) only stock FM or Lyclear, Boots have Hedrin so I will definitely get some there. I have asked for diff products & the line informed response has generally been that the products work it's just that you're not doing it properly/the kids are being reinfected/the makers are making a fortune as you have to keep buying it at €16.50 for 4 applications.
A nice grandmother in the chemist today was v sympathetic as her grandkids had them and she also remembers the days of the 1 shampoo and done & not the hours of labour mothers now have to do like it's 1650 !

Sorry for rant i think they make me anxious 💆🏻

I have collection of 5 nit combs now. Need to buy shares in FM to offset the cost of this 🙄💆🏻

cozietoesie · 28/07/2016 20:06

Amazon sell Hedrin. Wink

cozietoesie · 28/07/2016 20:07

Welcome, Apple. Smile

Badders123 · 28/07/2016 20:12

Welcome Apple

Tryingtosaveup · 28/07/2016 20:49

Tobe, can you not find a holiday abroad, in the sun for less than £3000. My DS and DD both have 2 DCs and pay nothing like that for their 10 day hols abroad..that's 2 adults and 2 DCs.
If you are really serious about saving money then perhaps you look look at somewhere a bit cheaper where you could still get your holiday but not spend quite as much.

Toberich · 28/07/2016 21:14

Yes definitely - €800 for flights, €350 villa rental (From friend) plus spending money. I don't think people properly factor in spending money so to me that is v cheap.

Badders123 · 28/07/2016 21:15

It tends to be more expensive to fly from Ireland sadly...
Hoping to go over for my aunts 80th on September but finances not looking hopeful Sad

Toberich · 28/07/2016 21:17

Peak season ! Plus will try and get flights at best price

Toberich · 28/07/2016 21:18

Not really Badders to usual places but obv depends where you're going 😃

Toberich · 28/07/2016 21:19

Plus no currency exchange / losses to most of Europe.
