This thread is loosely linked to several previous ones on the same topic.

We live in a society that makes it horribly easy to get into debt but makes it incredibly hard to admit you have a problem and even harder to get out of debt.
Everybody is welcome to share problems, ideas, solutions, but not be judgemental please

I am not in debt, any more.
Here is a link to some spreadsheets that might help explain how
SPREADSHEETS-for-Debt-Control-Budgeting-Mortgages-etc

and lots of people use this
YouNeedABudget

The important things to remember are

  • yesterday is as past as the Crimean War
( we will not judge how you got into debt, but we will support you on the way out )
  • this is an anonymous forum
( we will not tell your employer, family or friends of the reality of your numbers and we are here day and night )
  • this thread is about supporting people through the huge mindset changes needed to come out of debt
( feel free to offload all of the feelings that drive you to want to spend, that make it hard to save and that generally make life crap at times, including getting those closest to you to recognise the changes needed )

Join in, bare your soul and come out the other end.
Its worth it.
You are worth it
The long term results for you, your partner, your children, and your friends and family are worth it.

Yes, TIP. Only what is truly needed.

Direct debits are insidious things and the firms that wangle you into them are masters at getting your money out of you. 'Only £3 a week' doesn't sound so much - until you add them all up and work out the annual cost. As for inertia selling and charging..........

TaIkinPeace · 13/07/2016 20:48

Badders
Love that lamp shade.
Pokemon Go is surreal. DS tried to explain it to us today. WE giggled lots.

£500 in savings - only you really know.
What is the worst immediate thing that is likely to happen ..... could you cope with it twice in one month.

Badders123 · 13/07/2016 20:51

Think the microwave has broken....😥

cozietoesie · 13/07/2016 20:51

Mine just did.

TaIkinPeace · 13/07/2016 20:53

nip to cash converters and get one for a couple of quid
or ask on freecycle
or facebay
you'll be amazed

Badders123 · 13/07/2016 20:57

What's cash converters?
I'm not on FB I know, but I loathe it
Bloody hell
I wonder if asda own brand would be ok?

Badders123 · 13/07/2016 21:01

I will have a go at fixing it in the morning
blows self up

TaIkinPeace · 13/07/2016 21:12

Cash converters is our local brand of pawn shop.
they sell stuff cheap, second hand
but with a partial warranty
we got our xbox from there (cos I'm tight rather than broke)

DO NOT try to mend a microwave unless you are happy with wiring diagrams.
Check the fuse and if its not that, get another one

supermarket own brand are often fine.
I replaced my neff kettle with Sainsburys and have no regrets Grin

All - having terrible day - work is pretty horrible at the moment I'm bottom of a layer of jumped up managers (earning not much more than me but higher grade) and shit really does roll downhill & im at the bottom. Had a list of mistakes read to me today including not doing something because I was on holiday ! This was all in the guise of a half year performance review. I feel really sick as it's basically bullying but nothing I can do about it Sad. Some of the problem was probably in the delivery - my manager relishing in telling someone else what she has been told herself no doubt but the spirit behind looking for a list from another (jumped upHmm) manager to use against me is just so depressing. Wouldn't mind but manager no 2 had made some more serious errors than me !! All were relatively minor things I felt like I was in a parallel universe ! Not sure I can cope with this tbh Sad on top of this trying to de nit the kids who are freaking out.

Rant sorry !!

TaIkinPeace · 13/07/2016 21:36

THis thread is the RIGHT place to rant.

Kids and nits - I used to use baby oil : a brief wipe of it into their hair, then the nit comb, all nits out.
shampoo and send to school

Work.
Look up mindfulness : its the technical art of letting it all wash past you
and separating YOU from "your work"
my work gets called all sorts of things
I get insulted all the time through work
but none of it matters to the real me

Toberich · 13/07/2016 21:42

Thanks Tip 😫 (Can anyone see these emojis ?!). I'm all for mindfulness & can really let anything pass work-wise as the place can be mental & toxic for everyone but I suppose I worry that one jumped up manager's kicks will have long term implications... Probably not if I don't react... But the gathering of hilarious evidence is a new development 🙄

Re nits - my heart is broken ! Day 11 & so far used lyclear, conditioner, combing ev day & today used nitty gritty comb & full marks. I hope this works I'm cracking up.

Badders123 · 13/07/2016 21:57

That sounds awful toberich. Workplace bullying is such a big problem 😠
Try hedrin for the nits....my sister swears by it!
Don't worry TIP if I cant cure it by turning it off and on again I will pop to tesco as their sale starts tomorrow (sounds simple but I fixed my induction hob this way 😂)

cozietoesie · 13/07/2016 22:08

It's been showing some symptoms of age for weeks, TIP, and I'm not going to attempt to mend it. (Heck, I couldn't even diagnose its problems.) I've steeled myself to a new basic one. No fancy bells and whistles - I won't need to make formal introductions if I want to heat something - but I know it will be covered for a year at least. It arrives tomorrow.

SouthWestmom · 13/07/2016 22:15

Hello Talkin, well done so glad to see the threads are carrying on - I can't remember my original name when I first posted many years ago but these threads kept me going and gave me solutions I hadn't thought of.
We are down to the one loan, a cc but it's all manageable - we are paying the mortgage, not interest only, and I've learned how to budget!

Toberich · 13/07/2016 22:39

Thanks badders I'll try that next 🙂Sitting here with full marks dripping down my forehead 😖 It's v oily. I don't think I have them but totes paranoid at this stage.

Noeuf I was on here 2 years ago too we were in such straits but things have really improved. Not thru pay increases just budgeting & sacrificing etc. Non mortgage debts now 35k from 56k or so. But manageable and only 2 "bad" loans which I hope to tidy up soon enough & fix credit.

cozietoesie · 13/07/2016 22:50

noeuf and Tobe.

That's good going on both your parts.

Smile
SouthWestmom · 13/07/2016 23:07

Well done Tobe, and thank you Cozie. It's a whole mind set change maybe?

Toberich · 13/07/2016 23:07

As I was de-lousing there I had a very uplifting thought - some day I might be able to afford not to work there !! If we can ever survive on just dh's salary I could take other less secure positions for way more money. Someday ! Nite all 😬

Badders123 · 14/07/2016 11:32

Microwave still lives!!!!
GrinGrin

Badders123 · 14/07/2016 11:34

I'm running around before work at 12 washing, stripping beds and ironing before hols on Saturday
Dh putting new blinds up tonight and ds2s school disco so chippy tea tonight Blush

cozietoesie · 14/07/2016 11:38

My new one has arrived - and seems to work fine. I haven't put it through its paces properly but I have a year to do it in.

cozietoesie · 14/07/2016 11:44

Good news that yours is still fine though. Smile

My old one was OK - if it felt like it. (A couple of things came out cold in places.) It was about 7 or 8 years old, though, and I can't be doing with equipment that only works when it's in the right mood. Grin

Toberich · 14/07/2016 14:23

Long live the microwave badders 👍🏻

TaIkinPeace · 14/07/2016 14:50

Microwaves are fab.

Badders
Chippy supper is one of the cheapest - four of us pig out for £18 once a month. And are times when its the best option.

Its so cool that people are popping back into the thread having been getting their debt under control for a couple of years.
It IS tough
but it is worth it.
