Stress I got my letter on 9 th feb sent my documents straight back they received them on the 12th feb they stopped my money on 26th march but I also had 1 extra payment for child tax credit the Friday before that. Smokie yes I'm virtually living on fresh air my life is on hold,I can't concentrate on very much these days.

12fedup12 · 02/07/2015 21:20

Morgan I keep hoping every day to see good news from you, I really hope your tribunal takes place soon and they reinstate your payments and have to back date it

Bunnyjo · 02/07/2015 21:23

twirlypoo, you need advice ASAP. This is from the Gov.uk site about working tax credits and this is from revenuebenefits.org.uk.

HMRC are really clamping down on tax credits and what is deemed suitable self employment.

Best of luck and just be very upfront and honest with HMRC.

Mel25murf · 02/07/2015 21:23

I think maybe that's where you would come up against a problem in proving your working hours are realistic to the contracts/jobs/clients you have. I know you don't get paid when you are actually doing accounts/paperwork etc... Even though you are still working. And I guess you'd have to show that if you are not actually working the jobs yourself that the hours perapring, doing paperwork, booking in clients etc... are realistic. That's one of the downfalls of self employment.

I guess that most people like the idea of a manager, but With the exeption of jobs that you can't do because of the need of specialist skills etc... I definitley think that now in the early days you would benefit from doing some of the jobs you can yourself until you can build further.

I wish you Good Luck with your venture and hope even if it doesn't make you rich, it will at least make you successful!

X

Morgan

What about your appeal? Is there a timeframe in which they have to deal with it(I know you'll laugh at that, given all the current posts and 3(6) weeks back log people are facing), but at least you'll have entitlement for redress if they don't deal with it within that timeframe and cause you unnecessary hardship! Don't get beaten down. We are all here to help you.

Have you tried looking up for any Case studies for tribunal situations for your own predicament?

Mel25murf · 02/07/2015 21:35

This might help if you need to attend a meeting/panel and assist you with what information/evidence they deem appropriate and if you'd be able to enlist the help of a McKenzie friend if you cannot afford legal representation etc....

smokie19 · 02/07/2015 21:36

i too look to see for updates that you are sorted morgan, so do feel for you,i reckon there be more cuts soon when there decide what there cutting, pribably all get tax credits sortd then will go down regardless once cameron makes his mind up

Mel25murf · 02/07/2015 21:40

Smokie19

I agree, it's all coming. I just hope any cuts they make will be announced for the next financial year so that families can have a chance to get their finances in order before the time comes, but I am not counting on it. I also pray they have come up with a plan for tackling below living wage incomes before cutting tax credits and ruining peoples lives.

Morgan97 · 02/07/2015 21:41

Thank you 12fedup not holding my breath though n trying hard not to stress too much cos it makes no difference. Mel25murf they told me 28days re my appeal so again wont be holding my breath. Believe me I've gone on every site possible about this my poor braincell is overworked to its limit ha

twirlypoo · 02/07/2015 21:43

Oh bunny jo, that is what I'm so terrified of. I have included the attached to try and explain (this is a sample good week rather than a bad one though) and is backed up by my invoices etc. Do you think it will be ok or should I change it? I have went through my statements and highlighted all income and then put a cover sheet on with each month and then the income / expenditure for it.

I need a bloody miricle Sad

Thank you too smokie you can bet your life that the cuts will come cos the Tories don't want us peasants to have anything

Tazz214 · 02/07/2015 21:58

Hi guys, I'm new to this thread but have been following for a while now. I am awaiting a decision from Concentrix about my self employment checks and just wanted to share some information they gave me today regarding the SE checks. I didn't ask but the guy I spoke to was very helpful and very thorough, he explained to me that when looking at the SE documents provided they are not looking to check income, they are checking to see evidence that you have worked the minimum hours required to qualify for working tax credits. I know I could be wrong but this guy seemed really genuine, we actually had a really useful conversation and I feel a lot better about the whole situation now. I've been waiting weeks already and my info hasn't been scanned onto the system yet but I have seen a few people worrying about their earnings so just thought I'd share what I have been told.

Bunnyjo · 02/07/2015 22:01

twirly, I feel your pain. Self-employment is tough and not the bed of roses it is made out to be.

I think you may need to include good and bad weeks and allow HMRC to decide what your average is.

As the business has only been going 7 months, they may expect your own earnings to be very low. All you can do is submit everything and they will get back to you.

Alas, guidelines are changing again and for 15/16 to qualify for WTC your profit will have to be 16 (or 24 if you're a couple) x NMW per week in order to qualify.

I was surprised to find we were part of an enquiry; it made me feel like we had done something wrong, yet I contacted HMRC with each and every single change of circumstance(s).

Ironically, my estimate of earnings was only £34.44 below what our actual earnings were. I'm sure that was one of the reasons our enquiry was concluded so soon.

And if I can give you one piece of advice, it would be to have an absolute handle on the financial side of the business - these checks (and further HMRC checks on your business) will become commonplace, especially with those whose earnings cannot simply be checked via PAYE.

Mel25murf · 02/07/2015 22:05

Morgan

Mel25murf · 02/07/2015 22:55

Yes, I have a few 'friends' that I am awaiting the "I didn't vote for this" cries from! I don't know how we are going to manage to suck up the loss when we are already struggling, it's a real worry in our house as I am sure it is for many others! Let's pray they will be reasonable.

Morgan97 · 02/07/2015 23:06
