I've been sucked into forever living!! Why do I feel like the bad guy?

Recently an acquaintance emailed me to ask if I could 'help' her by trying a few products and giving her some feedback. Being the nice person I am I agreed. When the bag of samples turned up the penny dropped and i realised that she's trying to sell them to me (I'm naive I know!). I thought id just buy a little bubble bath. Its fucking 14 quid! No way. I'm sending the bag back and pleading eczema. Does this whole company operate by guilting friends and family into purchasing crap quality at ridic prices?

Do FL do the c9 aloe Vera cleanse? I have a friends who have done this 'detox' and lost lb's and inches in 10 days.

I've been so tempted to do it but DH is the voice of reason.

MrsEvadneCake · 03/06/2015 23:24

Yes they do and it's over £100.

WinnieTheWilt · 03/06/2015 23:28

What I don't get is how it's possible to be 'promoted' when you are self employed. Am I missing a trick? I just made president! #bossbabe Confused

FantasticRik · 03/06/2015 23:33

Ah ok! I was approached by someone selling C9 on FB and when I said I couldn't afford it (currently a student nurse and therefore skint) - she replied that I could send affordable instalments and would receive the products when I'd reached paid £100!!

I recently had a colonoscopy and the bowel prep for that made me lose 6lb overnight - I may try and get some more of it - bloody lethal (and free!)...

MrsEvadneCake · 03/06/2015 23:33

It's something to do with recruiting certain amounts of people to your team. Then you get promoted.

I drank the wine and glazed over....and didn't buy anything...and will not be having a party... Dodging emails like a boss!!

CattyCatCat · 03/06/2015 23:37

Oh my fucking God, just right now, my very own Forever Living friend has just popped up on FB. An old friend has this very day signed up. Either I am being stalked on here or God is truly all seeing and all good. Cosmic ordering exists and this is the proof Smile

Melonfool · 03/06/2015 23:39

'Multi level marketing' - aka pyramid scheme, aka 'Ponzi scheme'.

They collapse when they run out of suckers......um...customers!

CattyCatCat · 03/06/2015 23:41

The inspirational, motivational quotes have started already Grin. Feeling made up!

Melonfool · 03/06/2015 23:41

Funnily enough I happen to be drinking aloe vera tonight, I've never had it before. I got it on my way home at Kings Cross last night. It's OK, not sure about the bits of gel floating around in it, feel weird.

BettyCatKitten · 03/06/2015 23:47

My friend is trying to convince me to do the aloe Vera juice diet. I've declined.

ashtrayheart · 03/06/2015 23:47

Catty Grin
Now await the invite to something special where she will tell you all about it try and rope you in and she will be promoted to assistant deputy manager within weeks!

CattyCatCat · 03/06/2015 23:55

Oh I will, I will Grin. Sadly, I will have some sardines on the turn that evening and as such will have to stay in.

PrimalLass · 04/06/2015 00:37

The actiderm wraps don't work . Save your pennies.

hellsbells76 · 04/06/2015 07:19

Ooh I've just unhidden my own my own mug friend especially for this thread and she doesn't disappoint:

'My news feed is literally exploding with Forever promotions this morning! Big well done to #loveForever #winners #Foreverfamily "

Literally exploding. LITERALLY.

ememem84 · 04/06/2015 07:38

Aw I want a fl friend.... Jealous.

SymphonyofShadows · 04/06/2015 07:48

Me too eme. Those shitey glitter glasses don't come with motivational pictures of yachts

Idontseeanydragons · 04/06/2015 07:52

I have a message of hope - a friend of mine has recently escaped FL!! Grin
She started it all up, motivational posts, the whole shebang and then suddenly it stopped. I saw her in the pub last week and asked her cautiously what had happened and she said 'it's expensive shite and they wouldn't stop emailing me'
She's free! GrinGrin
Now all I need is the other 3 friends (all women very much full of common sense usually) to see the light..

wannabestressfree · 04/06/2015 07:54

Mine is the herbal life minions and there motivational shit.

MerdeAlor · 04/06/2015 08:15

I miss my FL bonkers friend. She was a brainwashed nightmare, incredibly pushy with a kind of glazed over look about her.

She gave up her business to sell FL products full time. I suspect I blocked her on fb but now miss her insanely positive updates.

Someone sent me a promo video she made, not selling FL products but recruiting.
It was overly sincere - lots of sad music in the background while women talked about how skint they were before FL. Then uplifting music followed by images of eagles soaring, new cars, beach hols etc and women saying how incredibly wealthy they were now.

I was fascinated, like rubber necking at a car crash.

MerdeAlor · 04/06/2015 08:18

There have been some interesting prior threads about FL on here. Utlimately a FL seller always appears to shamelessly try and flog some products. Wonder how long it'll be before we have one here?

Come on FL sellers - I dare you.

imip · 04/06/2015 09:32

I've already had my morning cringe Grin

C9 update and skinny selfie.

I'm doing the dishes following the school run - what have I don't wrong in my life Grin

WellErrr · 04/06/2015 09:44

I have no fewer than FOUR FL friends.

2 (who don't know each other), then they each signed one up. At least one of them is an otherwise really intelligent woman who already has a good job. The mind boggles.

The clean 9'stuff really pisses me off. They're already slim yet they reckon to have lost around 20lbs each and 8 inches all in a week. Hmm

Hoppinggreen · 04/06/2015 10:03

My FLFB is also a school mum so I get it in person too!!
She is very slim and looks good but I'm thinking it's down to the hours she spends in the gym rather than Aloe Vera.

Also, if people are going to post " inspiration" on FB then I wish they would write them in actual English
" OMG Hun your gunna be so successful and doin well in no time at all, that car will be yrs in no time"

Fleecyleesy · 04/06/2015 10:21

OP send that crap back right away. Don't even make a "little" purchase.

Write a note with it saying "good luck with your business, forever living is not for me".

If you say eczema she'll say it'll cure it.
If you say too expensive, she'll suggest you start distributing it to get yourself rich.
Whatever you say, she will have some crazed comeback.
If you give her an inch by buying something small, she'll attempt to take a mile.

I had to dispatch an "Arbonne friend". She suckered a group of us into going to a presentation (told us she would like our help, then tried to fleece us). It changed my opinion of her permanently. I only see her when she's at places I go, I'd never contact her myself after Arbonne.

These pyramid schemes seem to generally be focused on women. Advised to sell stuff to their friends, the business model banks on most friends being too polite to tell a friend no and instead buy something out of guilt. Shameful. Should be illegal. Can't believe people fall for it.

Fleecyleesy · 04/06/2015 10:23

Oh and OP the answer to why you feel like the bad guy is because that is the business model. You are supposed to feel bad, then spend some money to assuage your guilt. Hmm
