I've been sucked into forever living!! Why do I feel like the bad guy?

Recently an acquaintance emailed me to ask if I could 'help' her by trying a few products and giving her some feedback. Being the nice person I am I agreed. When the bag of samples turned up the penny dropped and i realised that she's trying to sell them to me (I'm naive I know!). I thought id just buy a little bubble bath. Its fucking 14 quid! No way. I'm sending the bag back and pleading eczema. Does this whole company operate by guilting friends and family into purchasing crap quality at ridic prices?

arse, sadly the whole company won't go tits up because it's long-established and rakes in millions of $ a year on the back of the aloe vera shite. It's like Amway.
That said, I can't see Younique staying around for years.
As for the working hours, my friend works evenings and weekends, as well as having all those laptop lunches Wink

MI5agent · 08/06/2015 18:24

My other FL friend has checked herself in to a restaurant today with another like minded fool person and they're "planning their success"

There seems to be a lot of planning whilst drinking coffee Hmm

Still can't believe someone hasn't come on yet....

Quietattheback · 08/06/2015 18:33

I've got one FL friend but she only posts messages asking for orders, none of the positive affirmation shit. I do however have a Juice Plus friend who is forever posting motivational gubbins and tagging me (along with the rest of her friends list) onto photos of people with strikingly similar before and after photos.

I got suckered into Amway briefly when I was 20. I friend invited a group of us round for dinner as a ruse for a presentation and the woman giving got all our contact info before we knew what it was all about. That bitch sat in my flat for over 3 hrs, pressuring me into signing up. I gave her a cheque for £250 just to get her out and then cried when she left. I was a right drip then but not enough to put a stop on the cheque - she went ballistic and badgered me for weeks to pay instalments.

Thankfully in the last twenty years I've grown a backbone and when I was flanked by two glassy eyed FL zombies at playgroup the other week the conversation went "would you like to hear about how to change your life for the better?" Me "No thank you". Them "don't you want to know how you can earn a significant amount of money, working for yourself?". Me "No thank you". Them "You don't want more money". Me "No thank you, I'm not interested in selling anything". Them "Ah well it's more about team building than selling products". Me "I'm not interested in building a team". Them "Can we ask why?". Me "No. Thank you for offering, goodbye". Cue open and close fish mouths from them for a couple of seconds until they regrouped and spied their next victim. I was well proud of myself it's only taken twenty years to learn how to do that but I've always been a late bloomer.

Would love someone who actually does these schemes to come on and give us some actual facts and figures...

Ginormarse · 08/06/2015 18:54

Me too Rachie ! It all seems so pie in the sky. I suspect there are some people at the very top of the pyramid who may well be earning big bucks, but the vast majority probably make very little or even out at a net loss.

PatriciaHolm · 08/06/2015 18:55

FL had turnover of around $3 billion in 2014 and just over 9m distributors. That's a grand total of around $333 per distributor....

bumbleymummy · 08/06/2015 19:33

Maybe they're told not to post on threads like these?

DianaBeaufort1974 · 08/06/2015 19:46

Your comment sounds very familiar to me. I have a Facebook Friend who constantly extols the virtues of Forever Living and their Aloe based products. She posted up a video sequence a couple of weeks ago and she said these various Snake Oils cured depression, Crohn's Disease, Diabetes and could prevent cancer: all very serious health conditions. I felt really very angry at her making these claims and giving what amounts to false hope. She simply does not have not have not the have the authority to make those claims (ie she isn't a doctor) and nor does she offer up research that proves the veracity of the claims she makes.

She then posted up a photograph with a table full of Aloe based lotions and potions and tagged it with a comment along the lines of: "Aloe Super Dooper Healing Gelly ready for customer A, who suffers with severe eczema, Forever Living Bee Pollen supplements for customer B, who suffers with Agoraphobia and Panic Disorder....etc" as though she was playing the role of Doctor, pharmacist, salesperson all in one. I'm amazed people are allowed to push this stuff on Facebook without comment or challenge.

The oddest thing was, this Forever Living Guru had the glassy-eyed behaviour of a cult member when I watched one of her videos. I didn't know whether to feel sorry for her or afraid of her. She really has been sucked in to the Forever Living church - transformed into a walking-talking-aloe-flogging-autobot.

trinitybleu · 08/06/2015 19:54

sorry to leave you hanging Marthas Grin

QueefOfTheDamned · 08/06/2015 20:22

I work with someone who has flogged pretty much all of these. She started out with Virgin Vie, then Avon which I don't think are pyramid schemes but then she moved to Jamie Oliver overpriced kitchen tat (not sure about his triangularness?) then Body By Vi, then Herbal Life, Forever Living and now something called Tropic. That's all in the 7 years I've known her. I deleted her from FB so I don't see her #blessed motivational updates but I know for sure that she has a Ford Focus, not a white Merc.

Peacheykeen · 08/06/2015 20:48

Apparently you can live on Bee pollen and water as it has more nutritional than food. Move over everyone with medical degrees this is gospel before she did FL she worked in a well known sandwich chain but she knows more than a qualified doctor apparentlyHmm

Ginormarse · 08/06/2015 20:54

Wow. Sounds like it should be available on prescription. Do they also know the secret to eternal youth?

Peacheykeen · 08/06/2015 20:54

Forgot to mention the aloe juice drink can cure my depression and anxiety oh the years I've wasted with therapy and medication when the aloe gloop could have instantly cured meHmm

Peacheykeen · 08/06/2015 20:55

Vino apparently Victoria Beckham takes the Bee pollen to stay youthful. Yeah rightSmileGrin

MissBattleaxe · 08/06/2015 21:04

Well the start up kit that reps buy is around £200, so that's $333=£217. Hmm.

funkybuddah · 08/06/2015 21:19

Tropic is one of The Apprentice candidates companies , Alan Sugar invested even though they didn't win .

I have friends who are setting up herbalife and I can't wait for the posts .

Paperblank · 09/06/2015 06:55

I really want a FL friend!

Shall I join FL and do an undercover investigation thingy??

I could report back to you all and make you snort tea at the ridiculousness of it and tell you exactly what it's like Grin

SymphonyofShadows · 09/06/2015 09:07

I'm getting very cross now that none of my fb friends have been sucked in. I need to see all this motivational crap stuff

Is Amway still going?

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 09/06/2015 14:24

MerdeAlor · 09/06/2015 15:10

Just link to this thread, don't say anything else Wink

Loval · 09/06/2015 15:21

Don't engage. Ever.

Mandy2003 · 09/06/2015 15:43

Does anyone know about Jeunesse? I've looked through this whole thread and not seen the name. I have more FB spam about that than anything else and it really does seem too good to be true - eye bags and wrinkle disappearing in real time, a boss with an aspirational lifestyle etc etc

Any proof the stuff works or that it is another MLM scheme?

SymphonyofShadows · 09/06/2015 15:48
