Has anyone on here made a Freedom of Information request to them to get all the details they hold on you? I'd be interested to see their "working out" processes (as they so patronisingly have asked me to do on the form they've sent).

LotusLight · 13/05/2015 21:48

"lotus do you think they are just trying to scare us into paying them it all back then?"

Well letters to all tax payers saying you may not have paid your tax (I cannot remember if HMRC have done that in the past but I think there have been a few cases a bit like that) work. Some of those people are not paying their tax and it prompts them to do so. However it can scare people who have done nothing wrong so they need to be careful how these things are worded. When a law firm wrote to thousands of people saying they had downloaded films illegally and had to pay £500 or else that was held to be wrong as it was possible the people might have a defence or a neighbour used their wifi etc

So it would be interesting to analyse in what circumstances this company is allowed to write to everyone asking them to prove they are entitled to what they are claiming or if they should only write if they have any evidence someone is over claiming.

We are all tax payers as well so I am not against the correct tax being paid by people but rewarding this company on the basis of tax credits saved is ilke paying traffic wardens based on number of tickets issued - not really what we want from HMRC sand it subcontractors.

I certainly favour a change to this complex system of tax credits Labour brought in to ensure most parents were claimants - a very socialist plan to tie people to the state but that's a separate topic.

LotusLight · 13/05/2015 21:51

I'd like to know what the concentrix notepaper looks like from a legal point of view and use of HMRC logo and name of legal entity etc.

BettyCatKitten · 13/05/2015 21:52

I have read that their computer system is beset by problems and staff are poorly trained and don't know their arse from their elbow.
Apparently they pick names randomly.

ElizabethG81 · 13/05/2015 21:54

Lotus, if I can scan the letter and black out the personal details then I'll message mine to you.

WishYouWereMine · 13/05/2015 22:05

Hi everyone,

I've had a letter from Concentrix querying my childcare costs.
Think I may have forgotten to tell them when the funding for my 3 year old kicked in - at our nursery, you keep paying the full amount each week and then get a cheque every term reimbursing you. DDs funding started in January an
Am planning to ring HMRC in the morning to advise them (albeit belatedly).

Concentrix want all of my bank statements from last year. I'm a bit concerned about sending these as it has random payments in from DDs dad (maintenance). It's not at all regular payments - sometimes it's £500, sometimes it's £8. It depends on what work he has that month or of I need him to pay for a specific thing for DD. Am concerned that Concentrix will see this and query it? Can I send the bank statements and blank out everything except the payments to nursery? Or will that just look suspicious? (Also don't want them to see my McDonald's coffee habit!)

I've also sent money to him for various things.

Morgan97 · 14/05/2015 07:46

Wishyouweremine,I blanked out details when I sent my bank statements in feb,I've since had a mandatory reconsideration form n it says on there not to send the statements I sent before as they had been defaced n hidden important information!!! So unless anyone else knows different they won't accept defaced blanked out statements,I think they're looking for large random amounts going into our accounts, who knows what they're doing cos I don't think even they know

beadedn · 14/05/2015 10:07

So what happens if they stop your claim? They stop your money and then what you just have to repay? I do wonder if they are just hoping people will stop their claim.

hiedi · 14/05/2015 13:06

Got letter from concentrix sayin the suspect some1 is living with me but gave no name ...sent bank statement to them and proof of maintenance payment which is 50 pound ..ex still pays my wifi as part of maintenance will this b a problem ..

LotusLight · 14/05/2015 15:08

HMRC always ask to see bank statements for tax. I have never not paid my tax but had about 4 HMRC investigations over 20 years! Two were about maternity pay we had to pay two separate nannies who went off to have babies. Not a penny wrongly paid but HMRC wanted to look into it and it was hours and hours and hours of time to dredge the stuff up. Two VAT inspections - neither found anything wrong either - again hours of time and they are allowed and entitled to see just about everything. SO I suspect it would not be allowed to blank out things from the bank statements although if all they are asking people to prove is what they pay for childcare rather than what they earn it might be. I suspect in many cases they need to see what you say is earned is correct, you have no other source of income as if your income reaches X no tax credits (I've never earned low enough to get a tax credit for example thankfully in some ways).

I was only interested in the notepaper out of interest given the legal difficulties some banks had when writing to people pretending they had separate lawyers acting and the notepaper did not make it clear that invented law firm name Bloggs &Co was really HSBC in disguise.

The bottom line is going to be that this is all perfectly lawful and people have to respond with the paperwork. Keep copies of it all. Send material by special delivery. Set everything in writing. If you have phone calls confirm everything that was said by letter the next day.

AdmiralCLingus · 14/05/2015 19:56

I've not blanked out transactions but I've crossed out other peoples acc nos .... Reckon that will be an issue? I can't afford to print the statements again

Morgan97 · 14/05/2015 20:37

Beadedn they stopped my claim before they wrote n told me,then wrote n told me I owed about £7000 that I have to pay back,i wrote five times explaining over n over again my circumstances then receives mandatory reconsideration form! They keep changing things I had the same letter in 2012 what I sent then was enough, sent the same this time it wasn't enough god knows what they're doing.

shoepolish · 14/05/2015 20:42

I received this letter but from HMRC - it didn't say concentrix on it. It named my ex as the person they believe is living in my house.
I called them and explained that he owns the house so he most likely will be associated with my address. He also pays the mortgage.
He hasn't actually changed a lot of his stuff from this address from this address as he moves around quite a lot, and as he said it's his house he can use it if he wants Hmm

They asked if post comes here, I told them there's a redirection and gave them his current address which is hundreds of miles away from where I live. She searched for him and did not find him there. So annoying.

Anyway I sent them (they asked for) my 3 months banks statements , any utility bills in my name - which is all utilities, and I highlighted all bill payments on the statements; sky, electricity, gas, TV licence etc.
I also sent them a council tax bill for my ex at his current address as well as his water bill and his details on the electoral register for that address - that was all he sent me.

I hope this will be enough. What else can I give them?? I can't exactly prove that he does not live here, but I have provided documents as evidence that he lives elsewhere - if that makes sense!!

I'm also a bit concerned that he pays me maintenance into my bank account. It's quite sporadic and I usually get it when I text him where's the money. He then gives me £50 or £100 (we have 3 children), so a few days later I have to text him again...these payments show on my account as 'maintenance from Mr xxx' (cos he's a t**t). Will HMRC be bothered about these payments?

This is all so exhausting. I get WTC, I work from home but I'm behind now as so much of my time has been taken up this this!

Kittykat60 · 15/05/2015 11:38

We'll here goes.... Sending what I have today so I ll probably be skintight and on the bones of my arse shortly, probably have to leave my job, I'm still not eating and not sleeping, just to confirm girls for those that have already gone through this do they definitely ring you up on the number you provide them or is it a case of just waiting for your fate by letter??
Just wondering how admiral and Morgan are getting on ????

Morgan97 · 15/05/2015 12:57

Hey KittyKat,well I've sent my mandatory reconsideration form back along with all the evidence I sent before they already know I've nothing else to send, also sent ANOTHER covering letter explaining AGAIN. Been in touch with welfare rights service but they can't do anything for at least a couple of week!! My mp emailed me to let me know the mandatory thingy takes up to 42 days!! Ill be stressed even more than I can imagine by then. My whole life has been put on hold, like you KittyKat I'm not eating properly n as for sleeping well I go to bed shattered n wake in the early hours its a desperate position to be in knowing I've done nothing wrong but cant give them what they want. N as for your question do they write or do they phone, probably write just to prolong the agony

Kittykat60 · 15/05/2015 15:05

I really hope you get some good news Morgan after all you've been through, can't believe it takes another 42 days! Let's hope someone with a bit common sense is in charge of looking at it for you.
I'm not holding out any hope whatsoever and am now just thinking what I will do when I get the inevitable" your payments have been stopped" , feel as though our backs are up against the wall and still wish there was more we could do on a group scale about the way we are all being treated.

Morgan97 · 15/05/2015 15:17

KittyKat I've been wracking my brains as to what to do I just know its futile to think it will be sorted in my favour but I can't give up. We should start some support group for all of us that are going through this but I wouldn't know where to begin all i can do is tell people what I've done n who has helped me

emmajayne1985 · 15/05/2015 19:27

Morgan 97 I hope they have it sorted quickly for you this is absolutely ridiculous

emmajayne1985 · 15/05/2015 19:28

Can you write to you mp? I know they get involved in our cases at work and it gets the case sent to a specialist team to hurry it along

Morgan97 · 15/05/2015 21:33

emmajayne,I've been in touch with my mp he wrote to tax credits they in turn sent me a mandatory reconsideration form,he also put me in touch with welfare services but they cant do anything until I get a reply from my mandatory reconsideration form! It's a total shambles I don't know what to do next to be honest all i can do is play the waiting game

Morgan97 · 16/05/2015 10:24

emmajayne,I've replied to all your pms just in case you haven't received them for some reason

IcedGem123 · 16/05/2015 13:07

Hi all, ive not managed to read through the whole thread. I have received a letter today asking for my employment details (I don't work) so I rang them and they said they would send the correct details out today.
Im so confused, I don't work I have always informed tax credits of changes (last one being in December when I moved) I don't have a partner and its only myself and my son at home.
I am so confused as to why I have received a letter. Are these just sent out to a random amount?

Thanks in advance x

UndomesticHousewife · 16/05/2015 15:32

IcedGem, do you have an ex that may be linked financially to you or your address in any way? Who knows what these people are doing!

I had a letter as my ex is linked to this address as his name is on the house and I have no idea what he's doing with my address, but I sent them stuff giving his address so hopefully that will be ok.

IcedGem123 · 16/05/2015 18:21

Hi thanks for your reply, nope its just me and my son that moved in too this address. I have been single since 2011. The only thing I think it could be is post for a previous tenant or the landlord? Is that a possibility? I did receive a voting card for the previous tenant.

Waggledanse · 16/05/2015 20:24

I called them and asked ' why me' they were lovely in the phone and did say it was random routine checks! Mine is about the childcare I pay for and had a similar check 2 years ago that was fine. But as its a external company I'm really stressed. :-( x
