I feel annoyed, because they use the trick to scare us to get our personal information. For example, some people are telling I don´t have nothing to hide. But where is logic? You are asking my bank statements to find out if I live with a partner. But my bank statement does not say Miss Bar who lives with Mr Bar. However, it shows all my steps, my shopping, may be I am buying a sex toys:), why I have to disclose this information? Then they copy it and save on their computer. Then they lose this information as it happened with HMRC few years ago and tell you sorry.

Has anybody heard anything yet

PeppermintLatte · 10/02/2015 12:04

Ladies, can I ask what you would do if you were me?

I started the Concentrix self employed thread, thankfully I "passed" their shitty check and can keep my working tax credits. I sent everything they asked for. Problem is, i'm a single parent & I live with my Mother, do you think i'm going to get one of these single parent letters now? Stressing trying to get everything ready, again, just in case. None of Mum's bills are in my name, I just pay her what I can afford towards housekeeping every week (in cash) i'm on the council tax bill obviously & electoral roll but that's it. Should I start paying my Mum keep through my bank account, or should I get a bill in my name?

Also, as i've mentioned before, i'm still down at ex's address for Dr's, so is DD. I refuse to leave this Dr's, they are so fantastic, and i'd have to leave if I told them i'd moved. We used ex's address for DD's school place too, council & school said this was fine. Am I going to have to change address for Dr & school incase HMRC this as proof as living with ex?

WTF is that about phone records??? They can see your texts & phone records? Is that what you mean?

SWLady01 · 10/02/2015 12:06

A few people have heard back - maybe it's Page 9 or 10 of this thread that there are a few replies to this effect. However, it seems Concentrix have a backlog, so goodness knows how long we will all wait now.

pepsi123 · 10/02/2015 12:17

Got the stuff I sent back and said they will write to me shortly regarding my claim.Scared they will just stop money as I rely on that to pay my rent.I would be prepared for anything peppermintLatte. You are allowed to live with another adult but not in a relationship. It seems to be guilty until you prove your innocent whereas shouldn't the onus be on them to prove guilt.

pepsi123 · 10/02/2015 12:30

I would start paying through your bank so you have prove you pay to live there.if you are on council tax and electrol roll you should be fine.

OF COURSE THE CASE WAS THROWN OUT AS I DO NOT CHEAT THE SYSTEM AND NEVER HAVE - I AM JUST AN ORDINARY WORKING SINGLE MUM AND PAYING TAXES AND JUST DIAGNOSED WITH YOUNG ONSET PARKINSONS DISEASE - I JUST DONT NEED THIS STRESS ON TOP OF THIS AND WANT MY DOCUMENTS BACK - SO CROSS AND UPSET. EVERY TIME I RING I AM PUT ON HOLD FOR 20-30 MINS - I WILL TAKE IT TO INDEPENDENT ADJUDICATOR AS MY NEXT STEP

PausingFlatly · 10/02/2015 18:02

Still, it's good to know HMRC is looking after people's confidential bank data properly. As long as it's tax evaders with Swiss bank accounts.

Maybe HMRC should have handed the job over to Concentrix, who would just have sent threatening letters asking for bank statements...

PeppermintLatte · 10/02/2015 18:55

Thanks Pepsi Yes i'm on CT & electoral roll. Just asked Mum could I pay the keep via her bank account, she rolled her eyes as she pays majority of bills in cash at post office, but I think she just rolled her eyes because she's sick of us being here Grin

itsgoingtoreindeer i'd absolutely be willing to if I lived around Wigan. These bastards need stopping.

Helenbbb111 · 10/02/2015 19:02

I have logged my complaint with HMRC which I will be sending in sending in writing to follow up. I have advised I will not be sending any info to Concentrix due to the data protection and will send it direct to HMRC if they can tell me what evidence they have for accusing me of fraud. I have contacted my local MP who has replied to me to me to say he has been in touch with the HMRC complaints line about it and will be back in touch when they respond so will let everyone know what he says.

Hi all,

HMRC have been in touch and have asked us to post this on their behalf.

'Statement from Louise Boyle, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC):

'We have seen that you are discussing letters from Concentrix. We thought it would help if we explained why you might be getting them.

'We carry out thousands of checks on Tax Credit claims every year to make sure people receive what they're entitled to. Since November 2014 we've been working with Concentrix, a private sector company, on carrying out these checks. There is guidance on Gov.uk showing that Concentrix is a genuine HMRC-linked company at www.gov.uk/government/publications/genuine-hmrc-contact-and-recognising-phishing-emails/genuine-hmrc-contact-and-recognising-phishing-emails.

'We know how important Tax Credits money is to you and that it can be worrying when we carry out these checks. We don't intend to worry you unnecessarily - what we're trying to do is to make sure you don't end up being overpaid Tax Credits, resulting in a debt which then has to be repaid later.

'Claims are selected for checks using information from HMRC and third parties, such as credit reference agencies, which indicates there may be a risk of the claim being incorrect. Where that's the case, we or Concentrix will ask for further information, be that about claiming as a single person, childcare costs or levels of income. Contact us, using the details on the letter, if the information we've sent is incorrect, or send in the additional information we've requested. No action will be taken to change any tax credits award until we have heard back from you, providing it's within the timeframe stated in the letter - usually 30 days.

'We really value your help and co-operation as these checks are carried out, but above all please do not ignore our letters because that then runs the risk of your payments being interrupted.

'We are reviewing the inclusion of potential partners' names in letters as we understand this could be insensitive in some cases - we apologise for any distress this might have caused.'

Dear HMRC,

Please can you explain why you are not using your powers of investigation (under, I think, RIPA/DRIPA) to obtain bank statements directly from the banks, if you have a genuine belief both that there is a partner living with the person and that the bank statement contains relevant information?

Thank you
