Debt mutual support thread number 5 .... the light at the end of the tunnel is NOT an oncoming train

TalkinPeace · 25/09/2014 13:19

This thread follows on from the last four threads in the series, the most recent of which is here.
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/legal_money_matters/a2142758-Debt-mutual-support-thread-number-4-every-journey-starts-with-the-hardest-first-step

We live in a society that makes it incredibly easy to get into debt but makes it incredibly hard to admit you have a problem and even harder to get out of debt.
The posters on threads are here to help people get to where they want to be.

I am not in debt, any more.
Here is a link to some spreadsheets that might help
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/legal_money_matters/1987219-SPREADSHEETS-for-Debt-Control-Budgeting-Mortgages-etc

and lots of people use this
YouNeedABudget

The important thing to remember is

  • yesterday is as past as the Crimean War
( we will not judge how you got into debt, but we will support you on the way out )
  • this is an anonymous forum
( we will not tell your employer, family or friends of the reality of your numbers )
  • this thread is about supporting people through the huge mindset changes needed to come out of debt
( feel free to offload all of the feelings that drive you to want to spend, that make it hard to save and that generally make life crap at times )

Join in, bare your soul and come out the other end.
Its worth it.
You are worth it.
The long term results for you, your marriage and your children are worth it.

Thanks all. Back from a&e. Scan booked for tomorrow.

I'm fairly philosophical at this point. I have 2 healthy DCs. Whatever happens we'll be ok. I have so many people around me with terrible fertility problems I just can't feel too down about anthing that happens (or not) at this point.

Thanks for kind wishes. X

KinkyDorito · 13/11/2014 06:21

Keep us updated. I am thinking of you did and sending much love. Thanks

Marking place, back in full later but with one thing and another, it's been a $hit month Hmm had to dip into emergency fund for expenses resulting from DS 11 day stay in hospital-can repay that in full with some extra money I'm due in Nov pay. Short term goal is to get to 20th (payday) without needing to apply for an OD.

In better news, letter from Bank confirming overpayment to loan on last payment of £533.87 has saved me £59.92 in interest and shaved 2 months off remaining term Smile

Dye2014 · 13/11/2014 12:50

Hi all (did you with a name change)

Yep miscarriage under way. All a but numb. Not sure how to tell the kids when I collect them from school.

This iPad has turned into a big piece of shit. So tempted to go and bloody upgrade and say balls to the cost. Lot less than a baby no?

Badvoc123 · 13/11/2014 12:53

Oh, I am sorry :(
Flowers
I do hope you are taking it easy x

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 13/11/2014 12:58

didyou Thanks

TalkinPeace · 13/11/2014 14:58

Huge hugs to didyou Stay as warm and comfortable as you can.
Wrap the ipad in bubble wrap and throw it at something

Awful as it is, do not say balls to the cost as you'll only regret it later.

Oh gosh, so sorry didyou, take it easy Xx

I fell off the thread as quickly as I joined it wrt to contributing, but have been lurking occasionally.

Only 13 months left on personal loan. Would ideally pay it off earlier, but am restricted by an early payment penalty charge! I'll not take out a loan again, unless a student loan, which I plan on doing next year. I figure attaining further qualifications can only be of benefit to me and my family. I need to earn more but I just worry about the gender pay gap?!

CC balance is slowly going down. Paying well above the minimum and have so far resisted spending on it!

Debit card is getting well used, though everything has been budgeted for & am hoping to start saving for a safety net for unexpected costs soon.

KinkyDorito · 13/11/2014 17:16

I'm so, so sorry didyou - I hope you get plenty of chance to rest. Be really kind to yourself. Thanks Thanks

KinkyDorito · 13/11/2014 17:17

Hi miss Smile. Why are you worried about the gender pay gap?

midnightmoomoo · 13/11/2014 17:57

Popping out of lurkdom to send best wishes to didyou, I'm so sorry ??

midnightmoomoo · 13/11/2014 17:58

Flowers that should have been x

Dye2014 · 13/11/2014 18:23

Thanks all x

MissBeans · 13/11/2014 20:18

Well, Kinky, I guess I'd find it reassuring to know I'm getting the same salary as a man who puts in as much graft & is as equally qualified/experienced as I am. I'm well aware there is such a pay gap; I'd find it unjustifiable if a man were to be doing my job and be getting more out of it in the monetary sense. But then, I am a natural worrier.

I need to study further, my children to get a wee bit older (really don't want to be wishing the years away; my children keep/made me grounded) and then I feel I won't have to worry so much and will be able to provide them with a sound future. Giving them a good female role model at the same time.

I am actually rather good with money. There are things that have got in the way of having the success (not in the material sense) I hope to achieve. That is a whole other story though.
