ok, i know i am spendaholic, and need to stop. i have over 8k of unsecured debt. most of that was from before Peter fell ill, some of it is due to spiraling costs with him being in hospital. All payments are being met, but now dd2 dla has stopped (we are going for reconsideration), tax credits will go down (not sure how much by) and i could well have screwed up massively. I can clear over 2-3k straight away if i sell my car and my collectin of bears. But Peter says not to, as we wont get their full worth. But i dont know what to do. I am pulling the belt in as much as possible (all i need to buy for the next week or so is veggies, milk and some bread ingrediants.) and will be ebaying anything that stays in one place too long. but I am so annoyed that i got too complacent again. Its so easy to bid on things without thinking and paypal it. i want to shut down my paypal account but i dont know if thats possible. DD2 could well be reinstated within 11weeks(!!!) but i know they could just refuse it totally.

I dont know if i want advice or just a rant.

SparklyGothKat · 18/04/2006 22:32

can you get an ordinary shed instead of a play house? i'm sure they're bigger, cheaper and more practical and with a little ingenuity and coloured shed paint can look great as a play house.

bundle · 19/04/2006 10:12

misdee how old is dd now? i have some bits of dd2's (she's 3 this week but have some stuff from when she was quite little) that are still Ok.

misdee · 19/04/2006 10:14

i am not changing the playhouse. its already been paid for, and its coming tomorrow. I have 2 little girls who lives have been turned upside down for the last 18months, i have promised then a playhouse since we moved in here. it was not that expensive, ididnt go for the 399pounds 2storey one, i got a little one storey 228pounds one. yes it is expensive, but its large enough for all three girls. and it will get laods of use for years.

i am sorry if i sound defnesive, but i am not changing it for a shed. i also dont have time to change a shed into a playhouse.

OP posts:
longwaytogo · 19/04/2006 10:39

no keep the shed, I know what you mean about them needing something its no compensation in comparison to what they have been through but they will get years and years of fun out of it.

misdee · 19/04/2006 10:43

bundle i am over run with clothes, thanks for the offer tho.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 19/04/2006 10:48

Sorry but I agree about the playhouse, if you haven't the money don't buy it. I know you said it is paid for but it could be cancelled.

I know your girls have ben through alot, but you are considereing selling your car which surely you need more at the mo.

misdee · 19/04/2006 10:50

but i have use of 2 cars.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 19/04/2006 10:55

Look obviously it is up to you am just saying that i'd not get the playhouse as you can't afford it.

I know your girls have been though alot obviously but spending money you don't have is a bad idea surely ??

I know alot of people won't agree but honestly if i posted saying I had just spent that much money on something for my kids when peopple on here know i have debt etc then they would all jump on me like a tonne of bricks.
People are letting your situation cloud their advice I feel tbh.

nutcracker · 19/04/2006 10:56

Am not trying to be arsey by the way, just saying Smile

misdee · 19/04/2006 11:00

the playhouse was paid for cash. i have debt yes, but as i have stated i am able to pay my bills, just cant get out of debt. i have made changes overnight with cancelling sky, sorting out ntl for broadband and phone, getting card meters taken out, sorting out things to sell. We do have money coming in, its just that things are taking a sliught dive atm whilst dd2 DLA is sorted out, which could take 11weeks. Yes i have overspent. Yes i probably shouldnt have bought the playhouse, but its something that will get a lot of use, and will also keep my dd's happy as they will be able to set up their kleyboards and drums in there as there is no room inside for them.

its not like its a bloomin red rug is it!

OP posts:
desperateSCOUSEstrife · 19/04/2006 11:00

nutcracker I agree with your postings

misdee if you cant afford it dont get it
whether it has been paid for or not

also why get into more debt by getting a budgeting loan when
you should be concentrating on clearing debts
not adding on to them

also start selling assets for example like the teddies
and a car if you have to
rather than get into more debt

nutcracker · 19/04/2006 11:03

No not like the red rug at all as that was about £35 from what I remember.

I don't want an argument Misdee I just think it's a bit odd to post saying you are financially screwed and then say you have a £200 playhouse on order, and like I said most people would get slated for that.

misdee · 19/04/2006 11:04

the playhousde was ordered last week, and i stupidly didnt look at my other bills.

sorry istrted this now.

OP posts:
misdee · 19/04/2006 11:05

Well done on the changes you've made so far, buy nothing else on credit to add to the problem . Agree you have made a promise now to the girls re: playhouse and don't want to break it. However they need to understand that it means nothing else for a while and equally you at least seem to acknowlege that spending on that means you can't tackle the debt yet. I'm in 2 minds re: your car. Short term it may help but long term ,if you lose the mobility one, you'll presumably need to buy a larger one and it may be worthwhile having a trade-in or a runabout so you cn take your time. Also it is probably more economical to run for your hospital trips.

expatinscotland · 19/04/2006 11:14

if you have the use of two cars i would DEFFO sell one. honestly, cars are a huge expense. we wouldn't have one but DH needs it to get to work. if you don't absolutely need two flog one.

misdee · 19/04/2006 11:14

i sold it already. sorry. i have an old mamas and papas in the loft you can have for a small price, needs a mattress for the pram section.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 19/04/2006 11:16

i'd keep the mobility one and flog the other one. can't go wrong w/the mobility one b/c you don't have to pay road tax and MOT on it.

expatinscotland · 19/04/2006 11:17

i clubbed in w/a pal and flogged in a car boot sale and did very well! if you can't afford the ground fees you may be able to club in w/a pal on them. made about £100 just off that so well worth looking into.
