TrillianAstra · 23/09/2009 21:45

My book is sorted already, you can't stop me now!

Cocodrillo · 23/09/2009 22:03

Didn't realise it was sci-fi, Trillian! Or is not my immediate idea of sci-fi, eg set on Planet Borg on the Galaxy Gah.

Yes, it was the Under the Skin book.

Btw, I second no Dan Brown. Can I suggest no Kate Mosse either?

Aw, Squilly, he is adorable, but this is such a short-lived phase and I know that give him a few months and he'll be dive-bombing the cat, beating up his sisters and running around the house trying to eat miscellaneous cleaning products - this is just the calm before the storm! And once you throw one more chaos-monkey into the mix I may as well give up on trying to keep up with the tidying/washing sorting etc. So is not all sunshine and flowers here, honest.

Flamesparrow · 23/09/2009 22:06

Squilly - read my posts in a few weeks when I am bruised and broken with sore nipples

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 24/09/2009 10:10

It should say in big bold letters on the front of In The Dark (Mark Billingham) that there is no DI Thorne!!!! I am still enjoying, but it isn't what I wanted

OP posts:
squilly · 24/09/2009 14:52

Squilly vaguely remembers bruised, broken, sore- nippled stage and runs for the hills, picking daisies as she goes, remembering the cute baby bit is just one small part of the package. It is a good bit though.

Shame they all have monster phases at some point. My DD is a sweetie, but she still drives me nuts on occasions. In fact, I must go now, as she's upstairs feeling a bit icky and is home from school.

I like the Thorne character too. Am now looking for the Under the Skin book to see what it's about [intrigued emoticon]....

Flamesparrow · 27/09/2009 19:29

Trillian - Psycho has received the book. Forgot to tell her it was coming til today , she says it explains a few things now I have

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 27/09/2009 20:41

Does she even know that you have signed her up for another book swap thingy? Or did she just get a randombook in the post?

I did email her to sayt was on its way but if she is not MNing it's possible she's not emailing either.

Flamesparrow · 27/09/2009 21:33

Of course I told her!! I sent her a text on Tuesday that said "btw I signed you up for the next book swap"

TrillianAstra · 28/09/2009 10:25

So excited! Roll on October!

TrillianAstra · 29/09/2009 19:11

There was an MNers who had written a book, or her husband had written a book, a fantasy-type thing. What was it called? Did you read it in the end Flame? Was it any good? Do you in fact have any idea what I'm talking about?

Flamesparrow · 29/09/2009 19:14

Adamantine Palace?

Never got round to buying or reading

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 29/09/2009 19:22

That might have been it. I need more books. I've just ordered the second Merry Gentry book, and a Discworld one I hadn't read, and DP wanted To Kill A Mockingbird (interleckshual!). I was hoping you could recommend it, as I like the idea of buying a book from an MNer.

I went to the bookshelf thinking I would reread the one I sent to Psycho, only to realise that I've lent out my real copy as well!

Flamesparrow · 29/09/2009 19:27

What did you think of Dragon Keeper?

Boy is enjoying Night Angel books by Brent Weeks. I've just started A Nameless Witch which has a demonic duck in it, so clearly must be good!

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 29/09/2009 19:41

lol at demonic duck!

Trillian, would you like me to post you something extra, outside of the circle? Have so many books piled up I can spare a couple

TrillianAstra · 29/09/2009 19:47

Liked Dragon Keeper, but need more to know if I can get properly attached to any of the characters. In the Assassin books Nighteyes didn't even turn up til book 2!

I am happy to relieve your shelves of any spare books that you might want to get rid of tilly. You could think of it as a way of tidying and brining joy at the same time!

tillyfernackerpants · 29/09/2009 20:58

Ok Trillian, any preferences or are you willing to try anything?!

Flamesparrow · 29/09/2009 21:05

Assuming you have done Sabriel, Lirael etc?

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 29/09/2009 21:11

Willing to try anything that isn't written in dialect (even though I sent the Christopher Brookmyre) - little SIL is doing Wuthering Heights for her A-level English and I just remembered that I couldn't read what the servants were saying cos it was all written in Yorkshire.

Yep, read Sabriel Lirael etc.

TrillianAstra · 29/09/2009 21:13

What did you think of Dragon Keeper?

Flamesparrow · 29/09/2009 22:32

I struggled with the Yorkshire too

I enjoyed Dragon Keeper - felt I just slipped back into the world really easily, but like you feel it needs the next book to decide it properly.

OP posts:
FlameWithTooManyHormones · 30/09/2009 13:27

Squilly - have had a copy of the book sent directly to you. Can you write Flame in it when it arrives?

tillyfernackerpants · 01/10/2009 09:43

Trillian, I don't know what to send you . Most of my books are crime fiction! Authors I've got are Shirley Jackson, Stephen King, Carl Hiaasen, Margaret Atwood, Isabel Allende, Ursula le Guin (first of Earthsea books) - any of those grab you?

TrillianAstra · 01/10/2009 11:35

Tilly - I read crime stuff too, I'm not exactly going to be fussy and demanding when you are doing me a favour by sending me something! (I've read quite a lot of James Patterson/Karen thingy/Mark Billingham/Harlan Coben/etc)

Earthsea does sound interesting though, one of the ones that lots of people have read. Margaret Atwood is the Handmaid's Tale author right? I've read Oryx and Crake but not others by her.

tillyfernackerpants · 01/10/2009 14:38

Ok, I just wanted to sort it out otherwise I'll forget!!
