Hiya

The following people want in:

Autumnlady
Dozymare
TheDrsWife
Bubbaz
Yorky
PinkyMinky

Any more for any more???

I think the sensible way to do it is that each person sends their book to the same person every month to avoind confusion ie:

Autumnlady to Dozymare, Dozymare to DrsWife etc etc

We could do this on a certain day every month such as the 30th or something? I am open to offers on how fast people read etc.

Let me know what you think
xx

I'm a bit worried now that my book might be a bit heavy- as in not funny. I've got 'the Pursuit of Happiness' by Douglas Kennedy nto funny but a real page turner, only problem is it's a big book.. I don't know what to do now.

dozymare · 15/05/2008 15:59

that sounds perfect Pinky!! The thing is with this is that we should all get to read lots of diverse books from different genres (oooh you can tell i used to work in marketing )

I am sending a semi autobiographical page turner that starts of a bit slow about a woman who is mad (!) it might not be to everyone's taste but that's the point!!!

Please don't worry, nobody will judge you on what you send!! (and if they do I shall tell them off!!)

Douglas Kennedy is great - I look forward to receiveng that one in due course!

pinkyminky · 15/05/2008 16:13

Ok but don't all swear at me if then postage is mahoosive!

pinkyminky · 15/05/2008 16:20

Definitely prefer the kenndey to the eco, then?

twinklingfairy · 15/05/2008 17:00

Perfect Dozy, can't wait to get my book sent off and to receive mine from you
Although, could you send it to Nicol not Nichol
Sorry but I do hate it when people want to add letters to my name.
So many people wanted to call me mirriam, no, just the one 'r' please. Then my maiden name [roll of eyes] I was a Pain, I could handle it, why couldn't others, they all wanted to call me Payne! Always, in my head, pronounce Pie in ee.

I thought becoming a Nicol would rid me of this but no, now I get Nichols, Nicoles and Nicholls

This is not a personal attack on you, you understand, just a vent!!
Does anyone else suffer with having to spell everything for everyone or just grabbing the pen works

Daniya · 15/05/2008 17:43

Ok going to raid my bookshelf tonight for a good book and send it all your way. I just finished reading Jodi Picoult - Change of Heart. It was a good read but a bit to similar to her Keeping the Faith book. Not sending it on to you ladies as its a whopping big hardback which would cost us all a fortune (unless you really want it?)

Yorky have you read The Kite Runner? Its one of my favourites so if you haven't I will get that one and send it your way. Someone mentioned A Thousand Splendid Suns the other day which is the second book by the same author.

dozymare · 15/05/2008 17:46

Daniya I am desperate to read the Kite Runner - pretty please can that be "your" book??!

Twinkling - point taken! Attention to detail is NOT my strong point!!!!

Am so excited about this!!!

DM x

Daniya · 15/05/2008 17:51

DM - thats fine although it is a popular book so if Yorky's read it I will send on something else and a special delivery outside of the book chain just for you! Its a fantastic book but be prepared to bawl!

bubbaz · 15/05/2008 18:02

Dozy I can't open the attachent that you sent. Please could you resend it for me.

Cheers

pinkyminky · 15/05/2008 19:29

I'm sorry to go on, but to be certain, do people want me to send the Kennedy or the Umberto Eco? I keep getting the impression I'm typing on these threads in invisible ink! I think it's just because there are so many of us.

Twinkling- yep everyone spells our surname wrong, or mispronounces it. My maiden name was worse. My mum used to have to send me with a letter to each new teacher confirming that I did know how to spell my surname! My middle name has become a problem of late, too- the NHS like to give it the male spelling, which is a bit unfortunate.

I'll put a vote in for the kite runner, too, as I've not read it.

lackaDAISYcal · 15/05/2008 19:59

lol twinkling.

My maiden name was Dall, pronounced as in ball, wall, call, hall, mall etc, but everyone pronounced it like Dahl.....used to get right up my nose.

so I swapped for my comedy name instead (a mark of true love ) and will spend the rest of my life sounding like a beery sweaty darts player

lackaDAISYcal · 15/05/2008 20:01

can I ask a quick question......when it;s time to send the next book, are we sending on the one we received the last time, so the same nine books do the round of everyone, or do we send a different one each time?

pinky...I've not read either of those authors before so no preference here.

pinkyminky · 15/05/2008 20:10

Oh god I wish I could make decisions. I think I'll send the Kennedy, it's more suitable for summer reading, maybe?
I think it's like pass the parcel, so in theory you would send a new one out when you get your first one back, but we may all be in the middle of newborn babies by then!

dozymare · 15/05/2008 20:22

Pinky the Kennedy is fine!! I have no problem with thatas I know it is a book you have enjoyed, which I think is the point
I "think" these work by sending your favourite book to the next person on the list who reads it (or not, if they have!) and then passes it on the following month.......so actually we eventually end up with our original book which will by the the time the babies are born!

Autumnlady is that right?!!!

dozymare · 15/05/2008 20:23

bubbaz re-sent!!

pinkyminky · 15/05/2008 20:27

Ok cool, I will send that. I did enjoy the Eco but I didn't think it was his best, but Autumn said she fancied it, so I had a dilemma. Sorry I'm being a bit rubbish- have been feeling really ill and very fed up.

lackaDAISYcal · 15/05/2008 20:39

maybe we should send on every three weeks then to be in with a chance of getting through them all?

mind you, I did quite a bit of reading when I was BFing DD, in fact DH said I invent a BFing pillow that had a book stand attached so I could read hands free

pinkyminky · 15/05/2008 20:49

Good point!

Daniya · 15/05/2008 21:40

OK I looked on my bookshelf and have picked a book I really liked called Q&A by Vikas Swarup - its quite an easy read but also very clever in how its done.

I get through about a book a week so I will probs pass them on quite quickly. Also my aunt is an author and her 2 books are fantastic, I know you probs think I am biased but I honestly couldn't put them down and you can't fake that!

I can't send you my copy as its a signed one but I would love if you might be interested to buy a copy. Make sure you get Sorrow of Sisters first as the second one follows on.

Her website is www.wendykharris.com/

You can buy from amazon and see all the good reviews here. www.amazon.co.uk/Sorrow-Sisters-Transita/dp/1905175264/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1210883829&sr= 8-6

PS - if you want giggle search "Wendy Harris" in amazon and then you'll see why she had to use her middle initial K (I just tried that again and my aunt comes up first now which is a good sign but scroll down to book 12 and that was the one that used to come up first!)

PPS - sorry if this sounds like a sales pitch, its not meant to be, I just really enjoyed her books and I think you all will too but I doubt you will come across the book yourselves as she doesn't have a huge publisher and advertising!

lackaDAISYcal · 15/05/2008 21:52

has everyone read The Time Traveller's Wife?

pinkyminky · 15/05/2008 21:54

Nope. not read anything anyone has suggested so far. this is going to be interesting.

lackaDAISYcal · 15/05/2008 22:06

I've just been scouring the shelves and I have a few contenders, but can't decide which to send.

I've also just bought the new Joanne Harris which is the follow-up to Chocolat....I could send that, and then read it myself when it wends it way back to me, but if everyone hasn't read Chocolat is there any point?

aaaaaaarrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhh decisions, decisions, decisions.

Yorky · 15/05/2008 22:32

I haven't read the kite runner if you haven't posted it yet, but there are very few books that I won't reread quite happily!
Would love to get my hands on the sequel to Chocolat, I like her stuff.
Am currently reading mindless fluff that DH picked up at 2nd hand stall from library. Proof that I will read anything - won't inflict it on you though!
Did anyone decide yet whether the same books got round in a circle?

dozymare · 16/05/2008 07:50

The time Travellers Wife is a brilliant book - please send for the others to enjoy I will re-read as has been a few years and I loved it so much don't mind reading again!!

Seriously, someone will have read a book that someone sends but don't worry about it!!

Today is post out day...do you all know who you are posting to??!

DM x

bubbaz · 16/05/2008 08:15

Dozy thanks for re sending but I still can't open the attachment - Stupid sh*t windows vista I hate it it does this to me all the time - Please could you e-mail me Daniyas address direct and I will try again at MILs to open it! I don't want to hold anything up!
