sasha The assumption is to take heparin because it has cytoprotective properties and is meant to help placental function (I think). Unless you have clotting issues or a history of DVT, then usual protocol seems to be to wait until you have a location scan to check that all is in the right place, then start taking it.

monten Take it easy today, hope it goes OK.

Thank you all for the good scan wishes. It's at 4pm, so a looong wait...

Justonemoretime · 17/08/2015 09:41

Sasha, what Cloud said. The heparin has the fortunate 'side effect' of supporting the placenta as it attaches. Its to do with protection of the trophoblast, the bit of the fertilised egg that becomes the placenta. I read a research paper about it once, but I can't find it now... maybe search heparin and trophoblast on pubmed for more details? Anyway, it does do a thing more than 'just in case'. Smile

Minnie74 · 17/08/2015 10:07

good luck with scans bumble and cloud

monten good luck with first day back. Hope it's easier than you think.

sasha I wasn't prescribed heparin by Coventry, just the prog. The prof said it was because I had no clotting issues and I'd had two pregnancies get to 12 weeks (one full term) so they felt it would be overtreating for a problem that didn't exist. My rmc consultant prescribed the aspirin but my GP was very against it (pre bfp) as I have no clotting probs so I've never taken it. But like you say if this fails I'll be thinking should I have done! It's a mindfuck really isn't it.

Marchgirl · 17/08/2015 10:30

Good luck for you first day back monten. Hope the thought of it is worse than the reality xx

sasha, this is what i sent to my consultant to try and persuade her to prescribe heparin. She agreed, so it was obv convincing enough!

The papers I read were 'Heparin prevents cell death in human trophoblast', by Hills et al and 'Effects of low molecular weight heparin and heparin-binding epidermal growth factor on human trophoblast in first trimester' by Chen et al., both of which showed that heparin has a cytoprotective effect, helping the implantation process.

Also of particular note was a study published in Egypt in 2012- 'Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) for treatment of recurrent miscarriage negatively tested for anti phospholipid antibodies: a randomized controlled trial'. Whilst I realise that this was a relatively small trial, the results of this seem very encouraging: "There was a significant increase in the number of patients who continued beyond 20 weeks of gestation in the study group compared with the control 70.1% versus 54.5 %, respectively (P=0.002). The take home baby rate were also significantly higher in the heparin group compared with the control group 56.7% versus 35.3%; respectively (P=0.001)"

Minnie74 · 17/08/2015 10:43

Makes me worry even more about why Coventry didn't prescribe me the heparin march!

barkingtreefrog · 17/08/2015 10:59

Any post scan news from Bumble?

Thinking of you for later cloud Smile

FLen, bootles, emerald, monten, bumble and everyone else that has given me a bit of a thumbs up since saturday just want to say cheers muchly xxx it really makes a difference. Have got an appointment with the gp today (not that he'll be able to do anything, the lovely female locum isn't on and i am not dropping my pants for a man who has a bedside manner of a fridge freezer.) My body continues to perplex me, had a very strange turn yesterday. Visiting a castle and grounds with dh and ds amd start getting very sevear uterine cramps, exactly like a few days into mc2 and 3. I needed to pace slowly to control it, until the pain got so sevear that i had to get down on the ground, i thought i was going to faint. It came in waves, just like labour. The pain was really deep and low down, and in my back too (like my labour). Dh says i went white and sweaty/clammy. I managed to get up and pace to a bench where i did some 'breathing', like in early labour. In total the episode lasted about half an hour before i could walk on, and then it pased. We carried on as except for some residule back pain i felt ok. What is wrong with my body????

BumbleBee0 · 17/08/2015 11:42

Sorry for the delay, only just got out. All was well, took a while to get measurements but meant we got to see it for longer Smile. Measured 12+3. Thanks for all your well wishes. xxx

Frecklefire · 17/08/2015 11:52

just so send a massive goodluck yo bumble amd cloud today! xxxxSmile Smile

Frecklefire · 17/08/2015 12:17

Cross posts bumble! Very glad for you lovely lady! Well on your way to bambino #2!

sebsmummy1 · 17/08/2015 12:34

Bumble what wonderful news! Congratulations xxxx

BumbleBee0 · 17/08/2015 12:40

Oh freckle that sounds awful and quite scary. I hope the gp is helpful and at least refers you to a specialist if he isn't able to help himself.
Did you say previously you had just had a very heavy period? X

sebsmummy1 · 17/08/2015 12:47

minnie I worry that the meds I'm on could hurt the baby (even though I am taking them to try and maintain the pregnancy!!!!). I'm aware that with my son I did everything 'naturally' so I have this low level terror that I'm doing something bad every time I do my injection.

I honestly think it doesn't matter what way you jump you will always feel you are screwing up somehow. It's a scary, scary time.

Sunandrainbow · 17/08/2015 13:09

Yay bumble - great news Grin

freckle - ugh that sounds awful. Hope GP is of some bloody use and refers you on to a specialist.

cloud - everything crossed for you for later.

X

Frecklefire · 17/08/2015 13:57

bumble - periods have been heavier since ds and had big blead the day before yesterday. Surly couldn't be another mc? Cycle was only 28 days long. was 5 days early, only ovulated 12 days ago. So if it was it would be very very early...

sasha I had exactly the same - pregnant by accident or on second cycle, this last time I miscarried in Oct last year and no positive until June. It is a total headfuck, but hang on in there, it will happen. And sorry AF arrived, such a kick in the teeth,

freckle get thee to a doctor immediately young lady! Sounds horrible and scary and make sure you get checked out.

Thank you for all your reassurance re: dtd, feel very Blush now.

And hooray for a good scan bumble!

bythesea82 · 17/08/2015 14:11

Hello all,
Sorry for the silence, I have also been having problems getting into mumsnet. Just been catching up, won't name check everyone but sending lots of best wishes to those who had such horrible weeks last week.

march good luck making the call on your scan. I think I would lean towards having the one before holiday and just knowing one way or the other. That said, head in the sand is an excellent approach as well Wink Good luck tomorrow.

freckle you sound like your are going through the wringer at the moment. I hope the GP is helpful. I honestly don't think you are past it but you are certainly being tried at the moment. I wonder if your body is just kind of catching up with everything that you have been through and the stress of everything? I am constantly amazed by the link between mental anxiety and physical symptoms.

monton hope work is going ok today.

bumble great news on the scan Grin

cloud good luck for later.

sasha I am sorry to hear AF has arrived. I completely understand your frustration about not getting pregnant again but perhaps it's your body learning to be more selective? My consultant seemed to really feel at least 3 cycles post MC was beneficial for your body to recover and get back on a level before starting to try again. I know this isn't the case for everyone and you hear of increased fertility post MC but I hope this is the case for you and the next BFP is the one which sticks and makes the waiting worth while.

Sorry to anyone I missed, will try and keep up better now I can get back on the app!

Minnie74 · 17/08/2015 14:34

Great scan news bumble Grin

freckle that sounds bloody awful. Get to the doctors for sure. And you're not past it! You're absolutely fab. I know the wait to get pg is getting you down. I really hope this next time is your time. Huge hugs and a Carluccios gin cocktail for you darling xx

sasha sorry af has turned up. It's so depressing and the wait to get pg again is so infuriatingly frustrating. Maybe your body is just taking a little longer to get on an even keel this time? Fingers crossed for next month. X

Marchgirl · 17/08/2015 15:31

Great scan news bumble, so pleased for you Grin

Sorry it seems like af is arriving sasha Sad. You don't think it could be implantation bleeding do you?

minnie, sorry! Didn't mean to worry you. Obv i chose the papers that were most compelling to persuade them. I'm sure they weren't all like that. Perhaps because yours were either early or late, therefore didn't suggest placenta issues? I think it's good that they tailor the treatment to different situations. It makes me think they are actually treating us like individuals rather than just dishing out whatever the guidelines say.

freckle, that sounds horrendous. So sorry to hear what you're going through. I hope you're feeling a bit better now. Do you think it could have been an early mc? had you tested? Really hope next month is your month lovely xx

Minnie74 · 17/08/2015 15:58

Don't worry march if I'd wanted the heparin you'd have been the person to ask! I agree that it's good they seem to tailor their treatment and don't just blanket treat everyone the same. X

sebsmummy1 · 17/08/2015 16:48

No news from cloud?

fififolle · 17/08/2015 17:10

Great at scan news Bumble
Sasha sorry to hear about the evil witch. You will get pregnant again. It's do bloody frustrating waiting for it to happen but it certainly will.
Freckle that sounds really frightening, I hope you're feeling a bit better now.
Monten I hope that your first day back has gone well.

bootles · 17/08/2015 18:06

bumble that's fantastic news! Hope you can relax for today at least.

sasha sorry about af - it's awful when you get your hopes up only to be dashed. It really will happen at some point - and hopefully soon. Maybe this is your body being selective.

freckle sounds like you are having a miserable time. I don't know if a really early mc would result in such a heavy flow and such intense pain? I haven't had one so early so I could be wrong. I wonder what the gp will say...really hope this is a one off weird month. The month before I conceived this pg, I am pretty sure was annovulatory, and I spotted ALL month. This has never happened before - well the annovulatory bit may have done as I think the odd one is normal. I can't help but think my uterus was maybe cleaning itself out. Coventry talk about the body 'resetting' itself, and I do wonder (or like to think) that's what happened. I don't want to be annoying or woo, and your recent experiences sound bloody horrible and should definitely be checked out (much worse than my weird cycle) just wanted to put the thought there. Do look after yourself x

Monten · 17/08/2015 18:25

freckle that sounds horrible. I would definitely go to the doctors and get it checked out. It could very well just be an unusually heavy period but best to get pain like that checked out. Flowers for you. As if this shit wasn't bad enough without our bodies messing us about.

sasha sorry it looks like AF is on its way. I completely 100% understand your fear - when you've gotten pregnant three times in quick succession its hugely worrying when it then doesn't happen as quickly again. But honestly, these things really are so random. Your cycles might seem a bit all over the place - if they are they will right themselves again with time. Or it could just be that it's taking a bit longer this time. Either way I would place quite a significant amount of money on the fact that you WILL get pregnant again. Hopefully soon. I know my story isn't exactly comforting to you just now but I think it shows just how random it can be - 1st time 6 cycles, 2nd time 3 cycles, 3rd time 12 cycles. And as far as I could tell, there was no reason it took us longer this time, it just did.

If you want to get an idea of if and when you're ovulating then def give temping a try next month. It's not as hard as I thought it would be.

bumble great news on your fab scan.

My first day back was okay. Very tired now. Just got to get through this week then on holiday.
