Silent Miscarriage

my baby has no heartbeat. It was picked up on a ten week (private) scan yesterday.

I have been to hospital today and they have said they won't re-scan me and that I can:

  1. Wait to miscarry
  2. Have tablets to miscarry (but they won't scan me first)
  3. Have surgery to evacuate

What would you do?

I am totally devastated and I don't know what to do. I would take the tablets but they won't re-scan me and I know that I would beat myself up if I did it without knowing for sure (ie: confirmation that there is definately no heartbeat).

If they would look at the fetus to see what was wrong (if anything) then I would have surgery - but they won't as it's only my second MC (this year ) :(
Thanks.

Still here in hospital waiting for registrar. Nurse thinks they will give me more tablets. Had been 24 hours. If I read my own story I don't think I'd believe it!!

blimmin 'eck. As you say, when you get a good 'un, that one's going nowhere - you obviously have a v v v v luxurious womb. Joking aside, hope you're bearing up ok x

hairytriangle · 20/11/2010 14:11

Second op will happen in morning. Retained products still in womb but lower.

Oh hairy it's stating the obvious, but you really have had such awful luck :(

I hope you are having as good an evening as to be expected, and tomorrow is more successful so you can begin to recover, starting with a large glass of vino x

randomimposter · 20/11/2010 20:37

Oh hairy thinking of you and wishing you back home and in recovery ASAP x

SpannerPants · 20/11/2010 21:13

Oh Hairy! I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this. I hope it's over soon.

At least you get the gas and air and it's not too long until you can have a glass of wine Grin

digitalgirl · 20/11/2010 21:18

hairy so sorry to hear the erpc wasn't the straightforward procedure it was supposed to be. Hope this second op does the job. Does this qualify you for further investigation?

randomimposter · 21/11/2010 10:56

how are you today Hairy?

hairytriangle · 21/11/2010 16:15

Hi jolls! Still here. They decided they want the top consultant to do the op instead of the registrar as I've been thru so much. So it's now tomorrow morning.

hairy I've been lurking here and can't offer anything more than the ladies here have already, but didn't want to read and run without sending my heartfelt apologies for all you have been through. Sounds like a total nightmare.

You appear to be something of a medical miracle and I would definitely ask for further investigations whilst you're there. I can't see how anyone could refuse you.

I hope it is all over soon for you and you can get home and neck wine and eat your own body weight in cake. Best of luck to you for tomorrow. Big hugs. xxx

rachk32 · 21/11/2010 17:06

in agreement with brokenbits, hairy. Good luck for tomorrow, will be thinking about you. X

hairytriangle · 21/11/2010 18:05

Thanks all. They seem incredibly reluctant to do anything more than sort out this mc... Have asked and they have said I have just been incredibly unlucky. I will get a follow up appointment and I will be talking to them about laparoscopic investigation, multiple miscarriage, blocked tube etc.

Look after yourself, take care and we're here, if and when you need us.
Lots of love to you and yours x

Ladybee · 22/11/2010 22:52

Hi Hairytriangle so sorry I missed this thread earlier on, I have a bit of a thing about the MC board, it always does terrible things to my emotional state - selfish I know Blush. I'm so glad you've finally made it home and with some completion now, hope you're getting lots of cuddles and taking it easy now.
Oh sweetheart I'm so sorry that this happened to you - after all the trouble with the ectopic. Do take time to grieve your loss before making final decisions or setting limits. Huge squeeze from me hairy.

hairytriangle · 23/11/2010 19:18

Hi Ladybee thanks :) good advice there. I am so very glad to be home - cuddles, my own bed, proper tea :)

and yes, I am very up and down, but I feel better and that we will try again - it's daunting, but I can't give up :)
