Silent Miscarriage

my baby has no heartbeat. It was picked up on a ten week (private) scan yesterday.

I have been to hospital today and they have said they won't re-scan me and that I can:

  1. Wait to miscarry
  2. Have tablets to miscarry (but they won't scan me first)
  3. Have surgery to evacuate

What would you do?

I am totally devastated and I don't know what to do. I would take the tablets but they won't re-scan me and I know that I would beat myself up if I did it without knowing for sure (ie: confirmation that there is definately no heartbeat).

If they would look at the fetus to see what was wrong (if anything) then I would have surgery - but they won't as it's only my second MC (this year ) :(
Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your loss, hairy. I had the same thing, a chromosomal abnormality - so they said - 3 months ago today. It was a horrible shock, like some kind of mental car crash, but it does get easier. As you say, have a plan and work towards it and on the bright side, at least we did manage to get pregnant and had a couple of happy months to think about becoming parents.

hairytriangle · 17/11/2010 09:21

Well the d&c didn't get anywhere near the fetus. It is still there and showing clearly on the scan.

At least we now have a pic for our memory box.

Waiting to see Doc about what to do!

How awful for you I am so sorry x

hairytriangle · 17/11/2010 10:27

Medical management. Q glad as I don't want them poking about again

hairy first my apologies for what in hindsight was a very insensitive post a few days ago

I am so sorry the erpc didn't work, but I remember you saying you wanted a pic, so at least there is that. I didn't get a pic but kept a rose from one sent at the time and dried it, maybe another item for the memory box?

I do hope things go better for you and you can start trying to put this behind you as best you can

randomimposter · 17/11/2010 14:02

oh hairy I DO love the fact that you are far from straightforward Hmm. What an unusual situation... have never heard of that after an ERPC. You are truly special! I hope the medical management goes ok - I guess it's worth bearing in mind that whatever you have to get through in the next few weeks is to get you further along the road to TTC again/explore other options. And that however hard it is, it IS all for a purpose.

Thinking of you - do come and see us on the 40+ thread when you feel upto it. x

hairytriangle · 17/11/2010 15:14

Hey orange you weren't even slightly insensitive!!

And jolls I sure dint do things the easy way! Lol

thanks Blush

nickstermum · 17/11/2010 18:26

hairy what a palava :( so sorry you are having to go through exectant management ontop of the EPRC :(

hairytriangle · 17/11/2010 19:17

Thanks Nicks - the hospital has said they will keep me in for min 6 hours on Friday (after taking the second dose of medication). I think they may have a hard job kicking me out, because if I get pain anything like what I experienced yesterday, I don't want to go through that pain at home.

I am prettly strong, I think, and am just going to have to go through it, and rather this than them having another poke, or worse still, having to open me up

On a lighter note - this was my first anaesthetic and I was funny when I woke up - super chatty - first thing I said to the recovery nurse was 'ooh I like your tattoos have you got them all over? when can I have a cup of tea? Oh I survived it then!' Grin

OP posts:
KTDace · 17/11/2010 20:34

enjoy the brie. I am digging the alcohol these days Sad

randomimposter · 17/11/2010 20:53

me too KT, me too :(

hairytriangle · 17/11/2010 22:32

I'm not allowed any alcohol til it's over, but after that I shall most definately be getting thoroughly sloshed at least once before TTC again!

OP posts:
VivClicquot · 18/11/2010 11:36

KT - I read that as dipping it (the brie) in alcohol and had a proper WTF moment...

hairy - hope everything goes well with the medical management.

If it makes you feel any better, I came around from my erpc giggling at the woman in the bed next to me, who was wailing the house down and which prompted me to actually ask the nurse, "Tell me I wasn't bad?". Inappropriate? Yes. Insensitive? Yes. Am I embarrassed about it? A little bit... Wink

hairytriangle · 18/11/2010 11:38

Lol viv Grin

KTDace · 18/11/2010 17:32

I haven't tried dipping brie in alcohol, might be good Grin

Good luck tomorrow hairy

hairytriangle · 18/11/2010 19:00

LOL :)

I might just get a coctail shaker, some brie, some blue cheese, some prawns, some alcohol and some pate and shake it all about and see what happens [sick emoticon]

OP posts:
randomimposter · 19/11/2010 20:48

you are a medical oddity miracle challenge... hope things get going ok sometime soon. Have you enjoyed the gas and air? I went a bit overboard and was later sick over DP... Blush. Squeeze for you.

hairytriangle · 19/11/2010 20:55

Gas and air has been a godsend I've spent most of today off my face lol . they also gave me anti sickness drugs. Tramadol had no affect at all. Wonder what the bloody hell they will do with me next!

OP posts:
KTDace · 19/11/2010 21:55
