As the title suggests really.

I was 49 and have been told that's quite young? Didn't start early, I was 14.

55 and couldn't wait for them to stop.

gleefulstar · 04/06/2024 10:57

Yeah same. Can't say I've missed mine!!!

48 I think.

Mrsjayy · 04/06/2024 11:00

Month after I turned 50.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 04/06/2024 11:02
  1. They just stopped dead. No previous symptoms except feeling a bit sweaty at night. Periods normal right up to that last one, had no idea I was going through the menopause. I think I was incredibly lucky though.
Overtheatlantic · 04/06/2024 11:03

47 and wondered if it was early because I’ve never been pregnant.

Fizzadora · 04/06/2024 11:04
  1. Just the one after having DS then had Mirena coil fitted. I think I was 49/50 when I had it removed but didn't have another period.
Pedestriancrossing · 04/06/2024 11:05

51 but then after 7 months had a surprise last one, but none after that (I'm late 50s now)

CrunchyCarrot · 04/06/2024 11:05

51 - the last one was 9 months after what I thought was the last one at 50! I was disappointed to go on so late, my mother's periods stopped at 48 so I'd hoped to be similar, as my periods were always so painful!

Blubbled · 04/06/2024 11:08

I had my last one exactly 40 years after my very first one; the first one was 2 months before I turned 14 and my last one was 2 months before I turned 54, which is weird because I had never been regular due to hormone imbalance. Both were horrible, as were many of the periods in between as I used to suffer terrible dysmenorrhoea ( painful periods). I don't miss them!

gleefulstar · 04/06/2024 11:11

This is very reassuring! I was discussing with a friend yesterday and she seemed to think there was something wrong with me!

Just for the record @gleefulstar
The average age is 51 in the UK.

The range is 45- 55.

There's a more recent thinking among specialists that in the West, before 47 is considered early (and women may need to consider HRT up to age 51 at least for bone and heart health.)

Menopause before 40- premature (POI) and treated with HRT (just like any other hormone deficiency, to protect long term health.) This is now standard treatment and medical advice.

Menopause before 45- early menopause and should be advised to use HRT.

Interested to see these answers as I had maybe 5 or 6 periods a year for most of my life, lost 5 stone (I’m 43) and now like clockwork have one a month to almost the day. It’s quite a strange transition for me and it will interesting to see it they taper off again as I hit menopause. I wonder if it will go back to my old normal of some months having periods, some months not.

or do they just literally stop one month?

GaraMedouar · 04/06/2024 11:13

53 - but after having been a regular 29 days when I was in my forties and prior this all changed over the last 3 years , so from age around 50, the days gap between periods was 128, 22, 55, 60, 35, 60, 20, 200, 60, 40, 200, 110 and then no more …..

Were you suffering with PCOS?

If you have had very few periods for life, medical advice is that you should have a bone density scan. This isn't scaremongering, because it's well known that low ovarian function puts you at greater risk of osteoporosis.

Is your GP aware?

53 -first one was aged 14

elQuintoConyo · 04/06/2024 11:14

Not quite, but it´s been 143 days since my last and I´m 49. I cannot wait until they are over. I started at 12, so maybe when I am 52?!

Notthatcatagain · 04/06/2024 11:15

I was 40, first hot flush before the cake got stale

Yes. With cysts and all symptoms, inc infertility. Losing the weight seems to have stopped it. I’m quite enjoying the predictability of my periods now and am hoping menopause won’t be like my old normal of not knowing what day, how much blood, how long it might go on for, etc.

if they just stop entirely, that would be nice!

Knittedfairies2 · 04/06/2024 11:15

56

SisterAgatha · 04/06/2024 11:16

My bone density is fine.

I had horrible menopause symptoms from 45 but normal periods they started to get further apart 32 days were lighter for a few years then just didn't come,

aimingforthesky · 04/06/2024 11:22

56, and my 1st was just before 16th birthday!

Upthejunctionandroundthebend · 04/06/2024 11:22

55 but then had another after 12 months so had to have hysteroscopy. Started at 12, never pregnant, endometriosis.
