Two week period- and going!

I’m fifty. Up til now periods pretty much regular as clockwork, though very heavy

Got this one a week early and still going, though not heavy, two weeks later 😱

Is this menopause..? Anyone else had this?

Just checking in from my hotel room post op. All good although I did set off the alarms a few times earlier in the recovery room... the sensors really don't like my 47bpm resting heart rate but that's par for the course for an ultra runner - perhaps I should have warned them (I did tell the anaesthetist)! I've got a couple of plasters on my belly ... not sure if they made one or two incisions. I think I must be full of pain killers as I'm not feeling any pain there. Swallowing food is hard though as I've obviously had a tube down my throat.

My surgeon (Professor Isaac Manyonda) is amazing and I can't recommend him and all the other wonderful staff at Parkside Hospital enough. Every single one has gone the extra mile to make me feel at ease.

@AnxiousAnnie01 - the more I learn about this persistent bleeding malarkey, the more I realise it's so damned common. Sadly though, not amongst my close friends who all sailed through (and into) the menopause with no issues. Two weeks ago when I braved going to see my GP I was genuinely fearing imminent death, but I now know it's nearly always just a hormonal imbalance that's to blame. But it's still utterly crap that we have to suffer the indignity of it all.

On another matter (!), while I feel I have so much in common with you all, I've sadly not got a nice holiday to look forward to in the coming weeks like a few lucky mummies on this thread!!! I'm soooo jealous! I hope you can sort out the bleeding beforehand so you can enjoy the well earned break you deserve.

MadamePewter · 05/02/2020 20:23

@MidLifeCrisis007 oh, glad you’re doing ok! That is a seriously impressive resting heart rate...

MadamePewter, yes. It is proving to be my experience so far.

I know that we are supposed to stick it out for 6 - 9 months to "see if it settles"!! OK, but maybe there comes a point where this is asking too much? Am I reaching that? Maybe.

I need to know what my options really are.

Topseyt · 05/02/2020 21:00

MidLife, glad you are doing well. Smile

I wish my resting heartbeat was anything like as good as yours. Grin

MidLifeCrisis007 · 05/02/2020 21:15

I've just re-read my post and spotted my Freudian slip... that I was checking in from my hotel room. I'm still in hospital (they wanted me in overnight for some reason) so was checking in from my hospital room - it is rather luxurious and Ritz like though.....

I get some Codeine and another painkiller at 10pm which should hopefully allow for a good night's sleep. I could murder a glass of wine right now though! Or a gin.....

MadamePewter · 05/02/2020 21:25

If you get a hotel room then I’m in 😃 I’ll have a glass for you before my planned early night. 🍷

If it is a private hospital (NHS does pay for services in some of them) then they are oftensomething of a cross between a hospital and a hotel room. 😃

MidLifeCrisis007 · 06/02/2020 07:02

It's the Parkside in Wimbledon, so yes a hotel masquerading as a private hospital!!!! LOL!

I feel like I've been waited on hand and foot! Although the 2.00am and 6.00am blood pressure checks were annoying!

MadamePewter · 06/02/2020 21:15

@MidLifeCrisis007 how are you today?

And every one else?

OP posts:
tibni · 06/02/2020 21:18

Glad you are being looked after @MidLifeCrisis007.
I survived corporate event to get back to carpark to discover shattered glass and no car!
So work told me to remote work today and tomorrow and I got emergency appointment at GP. First time I've met that GP, female 50's, and she was terrible (but having talked to locals she's the same with everyone.
Anyway back tomorrow for bloods, 30 days of meds and referral for scans.
Irony - I go because I've had 2 months solid bleeding and uncontrollable flooding. She says she needs to do internal and asks if I'm bleeding! Er yes that's why I'm here! Asked what protection and was told in no uncertain terms I can't have a tampon in when I have scans. I pointed out I'd got tampon plus night towel so she had clean chair!
Oh and car thief has a boot of black trousers, spare knickers and san pro!

MadamePewter · 06/02/2020 21:30

Oh @tibni what a nightmare! And your boot contents sum up exactly what a bloody nightmare this bleeding is. The doctor sounds awful. Why are there so many like this? 💐

MadamePewter · 06/02/2020 22:22

It’s back.. 😢 Maybe just cos the northeristerone finished, and I did suspect as I’ve been freezing, tired and anxious..

OP posts:
MidLifeCrisis007 · 07/02/2020 06:27

@tibni - that really sucks. Car crime is rife these days. You have my sympathies. In relation to bleeding during the scan, I've been there and done with 2 recently that but they are used to it. I literally had to remove the tampon just before the scan so took a nappy sack with me to put it in before tossing it in their bin.

@MadamePewter. I'm on Norethisterone now and was told that I'd bleed when finishing the course (I've been given 60 tablets). I'm so enjoying not bleeding for the first time since October. Yeh!

It's really annoying when you come up against an unsympathetic doctor. I must say all the medical professionals I have been treated by at my GP, at my local hospital and more recently at the private hospital have been amazing. Not one of them have been caucasian, other than the anaesthetist. I had a surgeon from Zimbabwe, a night nurse from Swaziland, a day nurse from The Philippines. It felt like the United Nations at Parkside. But they were all outstanding.

My 2 recent blood tests have been normal - I sort of wasn't expecting that given the blood loss and the fact that I've been feeling quite dizzy at times. I guess it's because my HR is so low and I've been a bit stressed by this persistent bleeding/flooding that I'm dizzy. Or perhaps it's hormone related. Anyone else dizzy?

MadamePewter · 07/02/2020 08:37

I suppose I should have known . Just getting a bit upset as I’m on a king booked fancy family day out today involving public transport too. Sigh.

OP posts:
Topseyt · 07/02/2020 13:44

Tibni, what a nightmare for you. I hope you get sorted with a car etc. soon. Nightmare female GP must have been the icing on the cake there too. I remember one like her who worked in our university health centre when I was a student. None of us liked her and would do all we could to see another GP if possible.

MadamePewter, sorry you are now bleeding again, but I think it is common following norethisterone. Can you ask for it on repeat prescription for now, perhaps depending on the scan results?

I'm still going too, and rather fed up. I think that even if it stops or lessens before the GP appointment I don't want to keep this mirena. Things are just too unpredictable with it in there, including my moods. I am also fast concluding that I don't like having an implanted device releasing extra hormones into me. You can't exactly turn it off if you aren't keen on the results, and you are reliant on someone else agreeing to remove it. If I were taking a pill I could just stop that myself if I wasn't happy, Not with this. It certainly won't be welcome to stay inside me for the next five years.

I now totally disbelieve the sales patter that hormones from the mirena remain local. The uterus has a rich blood supply and is not an a separate entity from me, so that claim must be bollocks. Where else does the hormone go?

whatsthatnow74 · 07/02/2020 17:46

Hello all,

@divisionbelles has invited me over here as she'd spotted my post about entitle 'weird periods'!

I don't know if this is perimenopause or thryoid or stress or a combination of the three, but something is up woth my hormones this month.

I'm currently on day 10 of what started out as a normal period, lasting around 5 days petering out to nothing by day 6. That appeared to be the case this time, but on day 7 I was met with fresh, red blood, not heavy, but obvious, along with light cramping. This tailed off again on day 8 and by day 9 I thought I was done. But no, today, day 10, I've had somelight reddy brown bleeding first thing and very light brown throughout the day. Also really noticeable cramps again today like my uterus is trying to shift something.
I'm 45 and have borderline high TSH levels (discovered during routine bloods last summer). I'm not being treated for the thryoid issue yest as it currently falls below the treatment threshold, but I feel it could be at the root of some of my health niggles.
Thanks for listening

MadamePewter · 07/02/2020 18:59

This has been full on flooding and cramps again. I stink of the metallic smell of blood from trying to make myself presentable. This is fucking dismal

MadamePewter · 07/02/2020 19:00

Oh, and welcome @whatsthatnow74 😃

OP posts:
MidLifeCrisis007 · 07/02/2020 19:18

@MadamePewter.... I'm so sorry to hear that the floodgates have opened again and you are in pain. It's soul destroying. Fingers crossed it will be very short-lived.

AnxiousAnnie01 · 07/02/2020 19:44

Welcome @whatsthatnow74 I’m sorry that you’ve had to join this thread but at least you can talk to people in the same boat. I’ve been bleeding since beginning of Dec 😢 @MadamePewter I really feel for you it’s 💩 isn’t it !!!! I hope your day wasn’t too spoilt. Sending a virtual hug or large glass of wine....whichever you prefer xx

MadamePewter · 08/02/2020 13:16

Thanks @AnxiousAnnie01. It’s been a Lily cup an hour plus flooding and constant cramps.

I’m not such a fan of the northeristerone now... 😃😱 ..

OP posts:
MadamePewter · 08/02/2020 13:21

And backing cup up with several night time towels... it’s bloody expensive as well as horrible!!

OP posts:
IAmTheWigOfTrump · 08/02/2020 13:27

My bleeding was awful and then they did an ablation which changed my life! I couldn't stand up on public transport because the blood would just pour down my legs even with a super plus tampon and night time double pads! The ablation meant I just got bleeding that needed a pad for the first time in my life!

I went to the GP to try and get stuff for peri menopause and we decided I should go back on the combined pill. I can take it till I'm 50 (47 now).

I take it back to back but stopped it last month and didn't have a period but have started it again as tbh, I am terrified of ever having a big bleed again! I really don't want to think what they will do with me when I'm 50 as the pill is stopping all the menopause symptoms like the flushes/sleeping issues!

Following this thread with interest and good luck to everyone!

tibni · 09/02/2020 16:12

I've been put on norethisterone - just taken 10th tablet of 30 course. Bleeding stopped which is great but for second afternoon I am feeling physical symptoms of anxiety not in stomach but like my heart is racing.
This really isn't like me at all and it's really odd because I can feel it physically but in myself I feel ok.
It has been a bad week, funeral/ car theft etc and I've a hard work week ahead but I don't think it's that! Anyone else experienced this?

MadamePewter · 09/02/2020 18:12

@tibni it gives me the fear and anxious feelings
